About U.S. Hispanic Youth Entrepreneur Education (USHYEE)

U.S. Hispanic Youth Entrepreneur Education (USHYEE) was founded in 2004 in order to address the high drop out rates among Hispanic youth and to introduce high school youth to entrepreneurship as a career option.

In late 2004, USHYEE initiated the Hispanic Youth Symposium (HYS) in Maryland. The HYS was launched in 2005

USHYEE currently focuses on the Achieve Forum which was developed to augment the HYS

Last year, she beat out 25,000 students in the program nationally to win the Oppenheimer Funds/National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship National Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge in New York. A highlight: A $10,000 prize to seed her business.

Evelyn EspinozaThe Hippie’s Candles

Evelyn founded her business, The Hippie’s Candles, in the kitchen of her mother’s apartment. Both of Evelyn’s parents emigrated from El Salvador – her mother was a seamstress and her father delivered wine. Evelyn was intelligent and charismatic, but, like many of her peers, never considered applying to a four-year college until a teacher pulled her aside after school one day to encourage her to think bigger. Evelyn won 1st place at the Los Angeles regional NFTE business plan competition
