About U.S. Hispanic Youth Entrepreneur Education (USHYEE)

U.S. Hispanic Youth Entrepreneur Education (USHYEE) was founded in 2004 in order to address the high drop out rates among Hispanic youth and to introduce high school youth to entrepreneurship as a career option.

In late 2004, USHYEE initiated the Hispanic Youth Symposium (HYS) in Maryland. The HYS was launched in 2005

USHYEE currently focuses on the Achieve Forum which was developed to augment the HYS

"To me, Hispanics are entrepreneurs anyway," Lupe Gonzales, President Vamonos TravelTexas

“ there exists a huge entrepreneurial culture in Mexico that Hispanic entrepreneurs bring with them,“Max Cardenas, President Diverse Innovative Solutions Iowa

``We have an independent spirit because we come from countries where people are left to their own devices economically. We know we have to help ourselves. A lot of Latino businesses are mom and pop stores; they come here and don’t know anything about getting a corporate job or going to a head hunter. The easiest thing for a Hispanic to do is start their own business, figure out something to sell and sell it.'‘ Gabriel Reyes, Reyes Entertainment California

Evelyn EspinozaThe Hippie’s Candles

Evelyn founded her business, The Hippie’s Candles, in the kitchen of her mother’s apartment. Both of Evelyn’s parents emigrated from El Salvador – her mother was a seamstress and her father delivered wine. Evelyn was intelligent and charismatic, but, like many of her peers, never considered applying to a four-year college until a teacher pulled her aside after school one day to encourage her to think bigger. Evelyn won 1st place at the Los Angeles regional NFTE business plan competition
