Friends, It is now time to say good bye! The year has gone by so fast, I am yet to

come to terms with the situation. I don't know whether you have noticed that I did not write too much nor spoke much - a very unlikely of me. It is a take home learning for me that you can achieve a lot more if you are a better listener than a speaker.

Communication from our mouth piece 'About Us' was very effective and you were fully informed on all the activities of the club. 'Innovation' was the Mantra when we took our office in early July'13. Our aim was to keep ourselves and the club busy with continuing the good work done by our predecessors and creating new benchmarks. Our 'Mission' was to accomplish our goals for the year through active participation from all the members of our club and our associate organizations. We believe we were fairly successful in our tasks. Our community oriented projects found sustainability and evoked great response from the beneficiaries and general public. Our club activities remained vibrant all through the year earning appreciation from the entire Rotary District. Overall it was a very satisfying year to 'Engage Rotary' and 'Change Lives'.

Our club won several accolades in the process. We were adjudged the best club in the District. Mr Narayanan Krishnan from Madurai won the second place and USD 70000 from 'Rotary One' and was nominated by us. Our Students of X Standard at RMA came out with flying colors again with a 100% pass result. Our members were part of the successful District team which efficiently supported the DG and conducted the District Conference. Successful ongoing projects like SAMARTHA, BANDHAVYA, DIKSOOCHI AND BHAGAVAN MEMORIAL DEBATE found new directions of sustainability. SWASTHYA and several other new projects took shape as continuing community oriented projects. Club hosted a Multi District Rotary Leadership Training Program in Mysore. The list goes on.

All this would not have been possible without proper planning, effective execution and appropriate use of Human Resources in and out of the club. The entire credit goes to Team Midtown. We as a club today have built such a cohesive network amongst ourselves that we can achieve anything under sun in our pursuit of realizing Rotary Dreams.

Friends, me and Ann Kamalakshi are simply overwhelmed by the gesture we have received from each and every member of Midtown family. Our heartfelt thanks to you for all the support you have extended in our endeavor in

thRotary. On this joyous occasion we would like to host a Dinner Get together for Midtown family on Saturday 28 June 14 at Hotel Grand Maurya, Hunsur Road, Mysore from 6.30 PM onwards. We welcome the entire Midtown family to join us and share the joy of success.

I take this opportunity to wish Rtn Venkatesh and his team all the very best in the 'Light up Rotary' Year. I am confident that Venky and his team would take Midtown flag even higher and would make the year most memorable.

Warm Regards- BHANU

Managing “E-waste”

Community Service Project

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Rtn.Gopal spoke on “E-waste” in last week's meeting. Rtn.Gopal, having involved in

various activities on educating about “E-waste” came to the meeting with a lot of data.

Having educated more than 8000 school kids and arranging various events to spread

awareness on perils of “E-waste”, he came in with a neatly formatted presentation to be

shared with Midtowners. Rtn.Gopal explained various aspects of E-waste and unfolded the

dangers posed if we do not take preventive steps. He gave startling statistics to prove his

point. He also mentioned about the norms set by government. A couple of videos were beamed showing the

pathetic systems adopted by many petty traders to extract metals from e-waste. It was a thought provoking

session. To top it all Rtn.Gopal came up with a Pop quiz and gave gifts to Rotarians with correct answers.

Blood Test Results in Real-TimeThe Proxima from Sphere Medical delivers

blood analysis in real-time, saving precious time during surgeries and keeping a closer watch on ICU patients.

Typically, testing a patient's blood involves drawing the blood and then placing it in a device or sending it off to be tested—both of which cost time. To streamline the process, Sphere Medical created the Proxima, which can be connected to the patient's standard arterial line to draw blood for testing. The tests can be triggered to commence via a touchscreen, which is also used to display the results.

The tests can be performed at any time during the procedure at no extra cost, and the blood is sent back into the patient once each test is complete.

Lighting up Easter Island with an “End Polio Now” message

The stone statues are known as moai, the living faces (aringa ora) of deified ancestors of the Rapa Nui who inhabited the island. The Dutch navigator Jacob Roggeveen came upon the statues on Easter Sunday in 1722. The island has several ceremonial platforms, called ahu, upon which statues are displayed, and each is associated with a family of nobility.

The gigantic, brooding monoliths of Easter Island have been impressing visitors to the remote island, 2,000 miles off the coast of Chile, for years. We wanted to illuminate some of these statues with an End Polio Now message, but it proved to be no easy task.
