Introducing IBM CloudPrivate
IBM Cloud Private:• Is on-prem software that offers
private cloud management andDevOps capabilities
• Complements whatever IaaS solution(s) you are using—for example, PowerVC, Nutanix, VMware, etc.
• Provides self-service catalog-style access to IBM middleware, open source software, ISV applications and your enterprise’s software
• Is a multi-architecture private cloud platform to develop and deploy both today’s apps and tomorrow’s micro-servicecloud-native and cognitive apps
• Runs within your data center, but also enables a hybrid world

• Easy for I&O to assemble so they can respond with speed and agility
• Easy for I&O to govern for safety and compliance
• Easy for developers to consume in a cloud agnostic way
Assemble a cloud service from cloud resources located in any cloud, govern & curate the service then deliver the service into the IBM Cloud Private catalog for

But First, Some Container Fundamentals…Q1: What is a Docker container?A1: Containers provide operating system-level virtualization of sorts for running applications; they support a notion of “layering” such that containers can build atop one another to promote reuse.
Q2: How does a Docker container differ from a virtual machine (a.k.a. LPAR)?A2: Containers are just processes that all run in a shared kernel, so they are typically much lighter weight and can start up in seconds as they have less overhead.
Q3: What is Docker Hub?A3: It’s an online registry of ready-to-use container apps—just download and run.
Q4: Why is the industry so excited about this technology?A4: The proliferation of containers via Docker registries is transforming the way developers work—they’re now able to easily compose apps from existing containers vs. creating monolithic apps. Developers can “develop once, run anywhere.”
Q5: Does Docker support multiple architectures?A5: Yes, Docker has built-in multi-arch support; ppc64le, Z and x86 are all supported.
Q6: What is this Kubernetes (a.k.a. “k8s”) thing people keep talking about?A6: It’s the industry-leading container orchestration technology, originally developed by Google and later open sourced; it has strong corporate sponsorship and a thriving ecosystem.
