Sept. 2016 Dear Educators, Welcome back to a new school year! As your social justice partners in Catholic Education, we are excited to invite you to join us as we begin celebrating the 50 th anniversary of Development and Peace with an exciting campaign called, ‘At the Heart of the Action!’ We hope you will join us for our annual Student Day conference and participate in our new postcard campaign! (http://www.devp.org/en/education/fall2016) This year’s campaign builds on the momentum built by last year’s create a climate of change campaign. A big thank-you to all of you who participated, whether it was getting our postcards signed and sent to Ottawa or joining us on at Queen’s park to carry our climate change banner created at our student day conferences as part of the global march before the Paris Climate talks! One of our demands in last year’s postcard was for the federal government to make resources available to the people of the Global South – the poorest who are most affected by Climate Change. They responded by committing 2.65 billion in funding by the year 2020! Now we want to make sure that money goes towards is spent and spent well! We believe that sustainable agriculture and support for small family farmers must be at the heart of solutions and our new postcard is going to Ottawa to make this clear! Last year we were able to send over 25,000 postcards from churches and schools in the archdiocese of Toronto alone! We need your help to do even better this year! WHAT YOU CAN DO: 1) Order our free At The Heart of the Action campaign materials for your school: http://www.devp.org/en/education/fall2016/order 2) Bring a group of students to our annual Student Day – A fun day of interactive activities for social justice! (see flyer on reverse) 3) Have a speaker from Development and Peace visit your school (contact me) Thanks for helping keep D&P and our Catholic faith At the Heart of the Action! Calling All Young Leaders Passionate for

Social Justice!!! Last year, Development and

Peace called for the federal government to commit

to helping the world’s poor who are most affected

by Climate Change. Ahead of the Paris climate

meetings, the gov’t announced 2.65 billion in

funding by 2020! Now we are mobilizing to ask

them to put these resources to work to help

support small family farmers and a vision of

healthy agriculture for the planet. We Need

Your Help!
