* February 2004 : Consultative meeting of experts in olives of the AARINENA propose the structure and the organization of the network
* April 2004 : 9th General Conference Of AARINENA approved the olive network
Creation
Olive Network Objectives
1. Create awareness at various policymaking and technical levels within member countries and the importance of development of the olive through an integrated approach.
2. Promote cooperation in the collection, conservation, propagation, evaluation and utilization of olive germplasm.
3. Facilitate exchange of information through the development of a system for the collection and dissemination of information on olive.
4. Allow joint programs to be developed for the exchange of experiences and expertise and organization of training courses, workshops and conferences for the effective use and sharing of transferable technical information and skills.
5. Collate and develop common technical standards and specifications, methodologies and approaches for laboratory procedures as part of an overall quality control system for the marketing of olive products, in local and international markets.
6. Enhance cooperation for the analysis and solution of common problems through joint research / development projects.
7. Contribute to the formulation of national networks in each country to strengthen collaboration among national institutions, non-governmental organizations, private sector and universities.
8. Undertake promotional activities to promote the nutritional, social and ecological benefits of olive oil and table olive

Identification of Three common projects for all the networks (olives, dates, medicinal plants and cotton)

Seven projects elaborated and proposed by the working groups. One of these projects was proposed to be financed by DURAS project (Biological control of olive pests).
3. Second olive network meeting (Cyprus)
I want to tanks Dr Faouzi Taheur from FAO for his Will and devotion (notably the financial founds reserved to the Guide lines achievement),
Dr. Constantinos GREGORIU and all the focal points for the efforts deployed to achieve the GAP.

We received the list of Iranian and French researchers and some of Jordan researchers.

•The network covers 14 countries
•AARINENA members countries have the same problems (Drought, Marginal zone, low productivity, low quality of olive production, Insufficient cooperation at the national policies, research program, exchange of information, technological transfer, lack of coordination among institutions, universities and private sector).
