This week, I had the opportunity to
rescue a very special little dog.
This is her story.
Song: ‘Ache’ by James Carrington

Finally, a kind-hearted
person stopped to help
her, taking her to a shelter
where an owner would
surely come to claim her.
Every day, her babies grew
bigger. She gave all of her
nutrition and energy to her
puppies. She nearly gave her
life, and probably would gladly
have done so if given the
opportunity.
She gave birth to six stillborn
babies.
The big day came, and she could
wait no longer. She gave birth -
tiny, alone, and frightened in a
shelter.
She cleaned her babies,
encouraging them to nurse.
She didn’t
understand
why their
hearts would
not beat.
What had she
done wrong?
She couldn’t understand that it
was not her fault.
Her tiny, 6 lb. body could not
support the babies inside of
her.
They were too big and she
was deprived of nutrition for
so long.
Her babies
were taken
from her, to
be disposed
of. She was
to be next.
Her rescuer
came, not a
moment
too soon.
She has been taken to a safe place.
A place where she can eat freely.
A place where she can rest
and quietly mourn her loss.
But, she is resilient.
She is a fighter.
She has been in foster care
for only 3 days now.
Already, her spirit is shining
through.
But, many like Twinkle are sitting
in shelters with undecided fate.
So many others are in foster
care, waiting for the right person
to come along and give them a
chance. For the sake of animals like
Twinkle,
