Transformational Leadership towards Sustainable Development Goals” , from 29 June to 5 July 2017. The Programme is jointly organized with ProSPER.Net, SEA START RC, the Southeast Asia Regional Center of START - the Global Change SysTem for Analysis, Research and Training, and the Center of Excellence on Hazardous Substance Management (HSM). SEA START RC is a regional center focusing on advancing knowledge generation and dissemination that informs policy and decision- making in and across climate- sensitive sectors of the developing world. The Center of Excellence on Hazardous Substance Management (HSM), operates as a consortium of renowned universities in Thailand and from overseas under the supervision of the Science and Technology Postgraduate Education and Research Development Office (PERDO), Office of the Higher Education Commission. Activities of HSM, through synergistic collaborations with industries, government offices, overseas universities and international organizations, encompass research, human resource development programs and academic consultation.

Based on the organizers’ commitment to strengthen research and capacity building for sustainable development, the 2017 ProSPER. Net Leadership Programme is designed to collectively manage knowledge and application for potential implementation through experiences with local communities, government and private sectors. The Programme provides opportunities for participants with various backgrounds, e. g. science, public policy, economics and business, to develop interdisciplinary skills that lead to sustainable development initiatives in local, regional or global contexts. A series of plenary sessions and field trips in Bangkok and nearby provinces will be organized to enable the participants to identify the current lack of opportunity in the involved sectors that influence policy- making and to formulate scopes for advancing sustainable development.

Rationale Amongst various efforts to combat impacts of global changes, effective leadership is essential. In pursuit of the UN-initiated Sustainable Development Goals, countries are expected to cooperate to terminate poverty and hunger,

improve education and health, encourage sustainability in cities, fight with climate change, and protect natural resources such as oceans and forests. People from all levels and sectors need to understand their challenges and work together to design and develop plans for these wide-ranging goals. With this regard, transformational leadership is an essential driving factor. Leadership for sustainability is about empowerment and transformational change for creating sustainable societies. It focuses on the ability to create vision, inspire and support the stakeholders, and eventually deliver the vision to community for execution. This kind of leadership is particularly needed in developing countries where local connections between socio-cultural, religious, socio-politic and socio-economic factors and their environments are tight. Thus, local leadership should be improved in these countries by motivating the local leaders to understand all challenges in the community and to encourage their followers to take action on the issues. Such collaboration among local communities is certainly needed for countries to fulfill the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. The 17 goals and 169 targets will simulate our actions in the next 15 years in five areas (5Ps) of critical importance: 1) PEOPLE, 2) PROSPERITY, 3) PLANET, 4) PEACE, and 5) PARTNERSHIP.

The Leadership Programme will be conducted based on five case studies relating to the 5Ps in Bangkok and nearby locations in Thailand. These cases include ongoing challenges in the local communities which provide a platform for participants to understand the dynamics of local leadership within each area and to identify possible paths towards sustainable development. Participants are expected to engage in the discussions with multi-stakeholders, to assess the issues and to devise a vision towards sustainable development in a group-based scenario. For each case study, the assigned group will present their findings and write a report paper to deliver their visions.

Jaruwit (Kru Ussawin) Punyahotra Founder of Baan Rangsi Nursery House Having my educational and vocational diplomas earned from India and USA, I was indirectly asked by my aging parents to resign from the position of PR Manager & Guest Relations Officer at a five-star resort in Phuket, so that I could help supervise the English teachings at my parents’ school in

Bangkok. I left the post rather unwillingly because I was having the best time of life, not only by meeting people from all over the world but also by being with very clean environment, particularly food and air. However, it wasn’t food and air that I had chosen the job at the resort but it was the children, I wasn’t too pleased with children therefore, I had not chosen to be a teacher at first. As time passed by, I saw innocence in children, slowly I started loving them. At this age my wife and I have no kids but we have children of all ages to take care of. Having kindness and love for them, I supported my hard working wife making this roof veggie garden. Years passed, our home now has a tiny clean environment that gives us good food and good air.

Kunnudhapat (Kru Usa) Punyahotra Founder of Baan Rangsi Nursery House Usa loves vegetables. She seeked and selected the biotic ones from supermarkets but still she couldn’t be too sure if those expensive vegetables were purely biotic, organic and non-toxic, healthy food or those words were just commercial advertisement. She finally found out from

trustable sources that 80 % of those claimed biotic, organic, non-toxic, healthy food were fake. There exists 20 % pure vegetables yet naturally they gradually lose their original vitamins, minerals and nutrition once taken away from the soil. This inspired her to learn to grow vegetable, from 1 to 2, 2 to 4, to 8…to 100. With such inspiration, together with love for the kids at our Nursery plus the knowledge gained from Bachelor degree (Home Economics), she has successfully made our place a self-reliance home.

Orawan Klanbut Customer Experience and Sustainable Development Manager, InterfaceFLOR (Thailand) Co., Ltd. I am currently working as the Sustainable Development Manager at Interface Thailand. My educational backgrounds are BA in International Business and MBA in Financial

Management from University of Wales Institute, Cardiff. My first job was about rice and machinery which allowed me to travel to places that produced rice both in Thailand and in Asian countries. At that time, I never knew the word ‘sustainability’ before. My second job was about financial analysis and SAAP consulting. This job was worse, just stayed inside the office with loads of data. I thought I needed something new so I found a new job. I would say this job changed my life. Sustainability at Interface is like a life or a blood line in our body. Most of the business that I used to work with focused on profit. They may have some CSR activities for their image. But interface is different; we walk the talk “Doing well by Doing Good”. These change my life. I am one of the ‘Mission Zero’ Ambassadors. I would like to exchange my experience to other people to make our globe better.
