A Word from Father Perry
Over Christmas break, I had the op-
portunity to spend time with family.
Little people were crawling around
the house, laughing, and playing.
Amongst the regular activities were
building blocks, puzzles, and play-
ing with toys. Each adult family
member recognized that if they
wanted to engage the children, they
would have to come down to their
level on the
floor.
In December
and January,
we celebrate
the Lord's
birth and bap-
tism. God en-
tered into hu-
manity in His
birth and
showed us the
path to rebirth through His baptism.
Christ could have easily changed
our lives from His eternal throne
with a word. These events reveal to
us God's willingness to come down
and engage with us on our level.
In the Gospel of Matthew, the Lord
declares, "Be you therefore perfect,
even as your Father, who is in heav-
en is perfect." This command speaks
to the great potential God sees in us.
To be perfect implies growth and
development. This calling receives
more meaning when we realize that
it was not given to us from high
above by divine decree. Instead,
God invited us to perfection while
engaging with us on our level. St.
Paul puts it this way. "God demon-
strates His love toward us, in that
while we were still sinners, Christ
died for us."
As children of God, our potential is
clear. The Lord offers us growth that
leads to perfection and wholeness.
The key to open this door is repent-
ance. Our Lord Jesus came to us
where we are, not to keep us here,
but so that we could change. As we
continue to celebrate these holy days
in the life of the Church, let us be
mindful of this loving condescen-
sion of God. Christ has joined us on
our level so that we might someday
rise to His.

House Blessings During the Feast of Theophany (Epiphany), we celebrate the Agiasmos or Holy Water Blessing service. Remembering Christ’s baptism in the Jordan River, we ask Him and the Holy Spirit to bless the water offered to Him. Then the priest takes that water and sprin-kles the faithful. We recount our own baptisms as we read the prayers that were offered for us in that service. Traditionally, the faithful invite the priest to their home to bless it, and most importantly those who live in it, with the Holy Water from the Agiasmos. Immediately following January 5/6, Father Perry is available to come to your home to bless it. The priest’s presence does not require complicated planning or preparation. The only thing that is needed is a bowl of water and the family to be present. Please call or email Fr. Perry (651) 706-9672 cell or [email protected] to schedule a house blessing. It’s a great way to start the new year!

Past Parish Council President Update
Dear Parishioners This letter will be my last Parish Coun-cil update for the year. After six-years on
the Parish Council (and much- needed parish council term limits), I will not be serving on the Parish Council next year. Instead of providing an update on our meeting this month, I thought I take this opportunity to provide a farewell message to our community. One of my last projects as President, Father Perry asked me to help recruit new members for the 2020 Parish Council. When reaching out to prospective new Parish Council members, I expressed to them my personal expe-rience serving on the Parish Council - that I received as much as I gave from serving. It was a blessed opportunity to establish good working relationships and friendships with parishioners while coming together to serve the Church and our community. I would like to thank the Parish Council members I served with during the last six-years, Father Rick and Fa-
ther Perry, for helping to make my time on the Parish Council a meaningful experience. I want to thank the parishioners who approached me during coffee hour to express their support and provide positive feedback during the past year when I served as President. I appreciated it, and I look forward to continu-ing our conversations about Saint George as regular pa-rishioners. Next year will be Father Perry’s first full Parish Coun-cil year. I feel confident the 2020 Parish Council will provide the needed support to Father Perry, and together, they will lead our community with renewed energy, pur-pose, and vision. I wish everyone in our community a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! In Christ, George Mastrogiorgis Past Parish Council President

My fellow Orthodox friends! We need your help in continuing the tradition of pan-Orthodox ethnic dancing. Last Febru-ary, over 200 parishioners came together to celebrate the rich cultural roots that are present in our very own Twin-Cities community! This wonderful event is an opportunity to come and enjoy the unique and vibrant backgrounds of our local Orthodox Churches. It is going to happen Saturday, Feb. 1st, at St. Mary’s Greek Orthodox Church in Minneapolis, 3450 Irving Avenue South at 7:00 pm. This free event is for all ages. Your parish priests are sponsoring this gathering through MEOCCA. We ask that you bring, if possible, an special appetizer or dessert to share. Beverages will be provided. All will receive instruction in at least one Arabic, Bulgarian, Greek, Romanian, Russian, and Serbian dance. All Orthodox parishes in the Twin Cities are invited. Please spread the word and invite your friends and family. No reservations are required this year but be sure to sign in when you come so we can know that you came and tell us which nationality you represent. Come and give it a try! Meet new people. Your youth want you to come! Spread our Orthodox faith! If you have any questions, please contact Steve Selin at 616-443-0970/[email protected] or TJ Perry at 651-895-9693/ [email protected]
