DECA
On Monday, January 7
223 RHS students attended
the District level competi-
tion for DECA, a business
competition that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs.
At the competition students had to complete impromptu role plays without
the use of technology and present their ideas and solutions to a judge. The
judges play the role of supervisor, colleague, or customer and students
have 10 minutes to present their ideas to solve their problems or provide
solutions for a situation the company is experiencing. Before attending the
competition students completed a 100 question online exam. Students test
and role play scores are combined to determine winners.
In total, RHS had 57 students place high enough to compete at the state
competition in their event. Students are also awarded honors for the top
test scores and role play scores in their event if they have one of the top
three scores. RHS had 33 total mini-awards evenly distributed between
test and role play honors. Students will compete at the state competition
held at Harrah's Convention Center in Atlantic City starting March 4. The
RHS DECA Advisors are Mr. Cronk, Mrs. Mendez, and Mr. Murtha.
In addition, Jacob Alvarado, Alex Ruhl, and Kathryn Zhou placed 1st overall
in the North Atlantic Region in the
Knowledge Matters online virtual
business Accounting chal-
lenge. The students had to log in
to three mini challenges and identi-
fy four accounting mistakes in the
shortest amount of time. The
three members of the team are
now eligible to compete in this
virtual challenge at the Internation-
al Career Development Conference
(ICDC) in Orlando, Florida in late April.
RHS art students presented course choices to 8th
graders at BF and GW middle schools.
