A Time for Giving Thanks
Psalms 23:5You prepare a table before me All right, it is time to pause and give thanks. We do it at home. We
do it before we eat. We take time to say a prayer. We dont do it ahead of
time. Mostly, we dont do it after the fact. Normally, we do it at the ap-propriate time. We do it at the selected time. We do at the time that bless-
ings are brought to our attention.
It is a wonderful note to realize that the beginning of the church coin-cides with a day of thanksgiving. Pentecost was a time of feasting and
thanksgiving as it related to the early produce of their harvest. As theycould easily see the good things that God was doing for them, it was easyto then give thanks.
Yes, it is right to always be thankful for the things that bless our lives.Still, there are appropriate times to stop whatever else is being done and inthe quietness of that reflective moment give thanks. I mean, really give
thanks. Considered, heartfelt, emotional moments of giving earnest thanksare important moments. No, they dont replace the constant attitude of
gratitude. Instead they punctuate and bring it all to light.
For most of us, Thanksgiving is a special holiday, adorned with all ofthe signs of being blessed. There is generally food, family, and good for-tune. It is fair and right to take the time to reflect, to see what is before us,and to share this special time to turn to God. With all the abundance of afeast before us, it is a most appropriate time to pause and do a little; no doa lot of Thanks-giving.
Thank you Lord for loving me.Thank you Lord for blessing me.
Thank you Lord for making me whole.
And Saving my soul.
Thank you Lord for all that has been brought into out lives and for this
blessed time to reflect so well on it. We thank you, Lord. Russ
