I wonder how often the world sees a reflection like the photos I took–those that rarely capture the total joy and love for Christ within us. Instead they see the blur of irritation, annoyance–our weaker moments. How often do we find ourselves looking at other Christians and, rather than looking for that perfect shot – the one that captures the Spirit of Christ, we seek the lesser quality? And when we’ve seen the weaker quality, we jump at the chance to point out that flaw to others, taking pleasure in pointing out what we perceive to be a flawed image? I wonder how many times we prefer the flaws to prove a point, making ourselves feel better in light of our own imperfections. How much glory is there in that? May we continually be showing glory unto glory — the pure essence, humility, and benevolence of our Savior in our daily lives. This Summer, we will begin a sermon series titled “Snapshots with Jesus”…in conjunction with this series we are asking folks and families to share photographs of their summer vacations and “stay-cations” with our church family. There will be a bulletin board at the front door to post a picture that captures the joy of your time together and the love of Christ we each have in us. Looking forward to seeing you all in pictures!!! Father God, let us strive to not only show Your glory within us, let us be diligent to point out the best in others. Let us give attention to showing the world Your grace, Your mercy, Your love. Deep Creek Friends Meeting June, 2012

A Snapshot Worth a Thousand Words This past week I was packing a few things to move to the lake when I came across several large boxes filled with photographs. One box contained hundreds of snapshots of Zachary from infancy to high school with venues that ranged from the bathtub to the beach. Another box housed photos of mission trips, youth events, groups camping, and trips to the beach and to the mountains. I must have over a thousand images stored in those boxes. As I flipped through my

treasure chest of memories I could not help but to laugh and smile remembering each moment.

I must have taken over a thousand pictures over the years trying to capture the perfect image of the joy in each moment. Each time I snapped a photo, I could only hope. When I returned home and uploaded them to my computer, I discovered a lot of adorable pictures with somewhat happy expressions. However, not one image captured the joy I saw each time I snapped the photo. The nine-second delay between pushing the button and the actual image being taken was just enough to lose the essence of Zachary’s heart and mind. It was just enough time for the dog to move, to alter a position, to blur the focus. That jubilant spirit was a veiled memory, a bare glimpse of reality…not fully captured on the film.

“We all, with unveiled faces, are reflecting the glory of the Lord and are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory; this is from the Lord who is the Spirit.” 2 Corinthians 3:18

Paul says we are all “reflecting the glory of the Lord”. Each of us who have Christ, have a powerful light within us that shows the world we have been with Him, and He with us. His life is magnified in us.

Under His Grace, Georgianne

Hello Everyone! As most of you know, I am the summer intern for the meeting and I am doing my internship with the music program. I want to thank you all for your approval to serve in our meeting and I am very excited about working with all of you this summer!

First of all, I want to thank all of you who filled out the music surveys on Sunday. I had some great responses and ideas for our music program! These surveys helped me to get a general idea of the vision that Deep Creek has for their music program. For those of you who HAVEN’T filled out a survey, I will have some in the bulletins and Sunday School classrooms for the next few Sundays. I will also leave some on the table outside Georgianne’s office so you can stop by the church and fill one out if you would rather do that. The white surveys are for adults and the blue surveys are for the Youth and Dogs groups.

I also wanted to let all of you know about our “musical offerings” that we will be starting soon. Each Sunday while the offering is being taken up, someone will give an offering through music by singing or playing a song. I will be calling upon some of you to participate soon!

Keep a lookout for several new groups and trips that the meeting will take on! I have many ideas for our meeting this Summer and you all gave me several ideas as well. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to play or sing! We have an opportunity every single Sunday for you to worship through music and I want to utilize all the talent that we have in our Meeting. Thanks again for your support! In Christ, Gwyn

Food for the Hungry

Many thanks to all of you for your support of Yadkin

Christian Ministries during the month of May.

The Postal Service brought in 7,501 lbs of food that Yadkin County citizens left at their mailboxes. The postal lady for our community said she collected more than usual. Thank You for the food and also for those who went to sort food after it arrived. The Deep Creek 4-H Club will sort the last of the collection. Also, thank

you for the 557 items brought to Deep Creek on Mother’s Day. Just think of all the families that will be blessed by your gifts.

Let’s try something a little different for the month of June. People forget to donate breakfast foods. So for this month, bring cereal, Pop Tarts, Breakfast Bars, juice, fruit

or anything that you can think of that you might eat or drink for breakfast. And… you can always give money and paper bags. Both are always needed. Thank you again for helping the children and adults who are having a difficult time right now. Susan Steelman

June is upon us and with its arrival, we have the excitement of another school year coming to an end and a summer filled with fun. As I reflect back on the month and activities of May, I am left wondering "where did the time go?"

The Youth started out the month by attending the Yadkin Quarter Young Friends Meeting. We joined other young friends at Union Cross for pizza and late night games. This event was a great way to enjoy food, fun and fellowship with other youth in the county.

The Youth also continued in their evangelistic efforts to reach others by passing out flyers for our upcoming Vacation Bible School. We met for a quick lunch and hit the road, targeting areas with lots of children! We pray for God's guidance as we look forward to VBS and hope to reach those around us!

I would like to say a big thank-you to the Youth that helped at the golf tournament on May 19th. This was our third annual golf tournament and it was a huge success. We sincerely thank all of our sponsors, players, workers and Silo Run Golf Course for all of their contributions. May God receive glory through this great event!

The Dogs were also able to get together for a fun outing this month. We traveled to Winston AMF Lanes to bowl for the evening. We had a great time and the kids taught us a lot about bowling! Seeing their ability to compete with each other and still maintain a good attitude and have fun, was extremely refreshing! This group of young "Friends" continues to amaze me, as I see God working through them!

Both groups took a break from our regular meetings on Mother's Day and spent the day appreciating our mothers. We did have our regular meetings on May 20th. We talked about the life of the apostle Paul and his conversion experience. We looked at how that conversion experience might look today and how we might change our actions just like Paul. After our lesson and a short game, we headed for an early summer treat: ice cream!

Looking ahead, we are excited to celebrate the accomplishments of our graduates on Graduation Sunday. We are also excited about VBS, being just around the corner! The Youth will also be participating in a mission trip on July 14-20th. We ask that all would be in prayer for our upcoming summer events!

Blessings, Jared

Congratulations

Kate Shore IS recognIzed Mother’s Day was special again at Deep Creek.

Children and grandchildren came to worship with mothers. Some of the older mothers who had health problems were able to be back. Appreciation was expressed for all women in the meeting. All mothers were asked to stand. A fun thing is to find out who has the most

children, including grandchildren and the great grandchildren. Some have several and a few

have a lot like Gladys Adams and Nancy Holt. But there is one lovely lady who just can’t be beat. Kate Shore, who has just recovered from a broken hip, was present with several members of her family. Kate has a total of 52 children and grandchildren including great-grandchildren. And they all love her just like everyone else. Congratulations to Kate and her beautiful family.

JASON BALL Jason will graduate from Starmount Middle School and plans to go to Starmount High School this fall. Since Jason was born premature, a tiny baby of four pounds with feet problems and asthma, he has overcome many obstacles in his life. He has endured many

events of hospitalization for feet surgeries and asthma treatments. Although his mother loves him very much, she has been unable to take care of him, so he has been with his grandparents since he was eight. He never lets things get him down; he just puts a smile on his face and keeps pushing on While at Middle School, Jason has been in Chorus and the Talent Show. The highlight of this year was the trip to Washington, DC. Outside of school, he is a dedicated Boy Scout, receiving honors in several fund raising events, attending camps and has received several awards and badges with a goal of becoming an Eagle. He loves Deep Creek Church and has enjoyed participating in Christmas plays, especially playing the part of Joseph. Regretfully, Jason was a victim of bullying at school this year. He has now recovered physically and instead of holding a grudge, has turned the experience into a positive way to continue his healing process and also help others. He has opened a Stop Bulling site on Facebook where he and others heal together and is also looking at other ways to help with the “Fight to Stop Bullying in Schools”. His grandparents are Bobby and Katie Mathis.

was a freshman in high school, I saw a kid from my class walking home from school. His name was Kyle. It looked like he was carrying all of his books. I thought to myself, ‘Why would anyone bring home

all his books on a Friday? He must really be a nerd.’

I had quite a weekend planned (parties and a football game with my friends tomorrow afternoon), so I shrugged my shoulders and went on.

As I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running toward him. They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt.

His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him... He looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyes.

My heart went out to him. So, I jogged over to him as he crawled around looking for his glasses, and I saw a tear in his eye.

As I handed him his glasses, I said, “Those guys are jerks. They really should get lives.”

He looked at me and said, “Hey thanks!” There was a big smile on his face. It was

one of those smiles that showed real gratitude. I helped him pick up his books, and asked him

where he lived. As it turned out, he lived near me, so I asked him why I had never seen him before. He said he had gone to private school before now.

I would have never hung out with a private school kid before. We talked all the way home, and I carried some of his books. He turned out to be a pretty cool kid.

I asked him if he wanted to play a little football with my friends. He said yes. We hung out all weekend and the more I got to know Kyle, the more I liked him, and my friends thought the same of him.

Monday morning came, and there was Kyle with the huge stack of books again.

I stopped him and said, “Boy, you are gonna really build some serious muscles with this pile of books every day!”

He just laughed and handed me half the books.

Over the next four years, Kyle and I became best friends. When we were seniors we began to think about college. Kyle decided on Georgetown and I was going to Duke. I knew that we would always be friends, that the miles would never be a problem. He was going to be a doctor and I was going for business on a football scholarship.

Kyle was valedictorian of our class. I teased him all the time about being a nerd. He had to prepare a speech for graduation. I was so glad it wasn't me having to get up there and speak.

Graduation day, I saw Kyle. He looked great. He was one of those guys that really found himself during high school. He filled out and actually looked good in glasses.

He had more dates than I had and all the girls loved him. Boy, sometimes I was jealous! Today was one of those days. I could see that he was nervous about his speech. So, I smacked him on the back and said, “Hey, big guy, you'll be great!”

He looked at me with one of those looks (the really grateful one) and smiled. “Thanks,” he said. As he started his speech, he cleared his throat, and began. “Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you make it through those tough years. Your parents, your teachers, your siblings, maybe a coach... but mostly your friends. I am here to tell all of you that being a friend to someone is the best gift you can give them. I'm going to tell you a story.”

I just looked at my friend with disbelief as he told the first day we met. He had planned to kill himself over the weekend. He talked of how he had cleaned out his locker so his Mom wouldn't have to do it later and was carrying his stuff home.

He looked hard at me and gave me a little smile. “Thankfully, I was saved. My friend saved me from doing the unspeakable.”

I heard the gasp go through the crowd as this handsome, popular boy told us all about his weakest moment. I saw his Mom and dad looking at me and smiling that same grateful smile. Not until that moment did I realize its depth.

God puts us all in each other’s lives to impact one another in some way. Look for God in others.
