NEWS FROM PASTOR RON— Well, first off let me wish you all summer blessings from the Lord! My hope is that you are already enjoying a wonderful summer season. During this special time of year when the outdoors call us to play and re-create, please know that the ministry of Calvary continues. As I like to say, "God doesn't take the summer off, so neither should we." Worship is alive and well for Calvary during the summer. As God has set these divine appointments for us together, please come and encourage one another as we put our focus on the Lord. The church life ministry team has also put together some great opportunities for us to gather together as a family of faith this summer. Please plan on joining in on the fellowship events as you are able. These are wonderful opportunities to invite someone you know who is without a church home to experience God’s love through Calvary. There is much laughter and love to be shared all around! Please plan as well to be at the 7th Town Hall Gathering on Sunday, July 14. We will meet once again after worship (no potluck) to finish out our work on the interim developmental task of "Rethinking Denominational Linkages" and to begin working on the final developmental task of creating a “Commitment to New Directions in Ministry.” Some of you may be wondering why we spent so much time on rethinking denominational linkages. This is an important task of any transition time. But it has been compounded a bit by some events in the life of the PCUSA, over the last 10 years particularly, which have been the cause of some concern for your elders and me. The overall trend in our denomi-nation has been toward a softening in our stance on the five great “Solas” of the Reformation. I am very pleased that many of you attended the Building Blocks of our Faith class and now have a better understanding of these important aspects of what we believe: Christ Alone, Scripture Alone, Faith Alone, Grace Alone and God’s Glory Alone. Although we may be wrapping up our assessment of our denominational relationship in our Town Hall Gatherings, I am thinking of holding other workshop style classes on some of the other Presbyterian distinctives that set us apart from other churches. Stay tuned! Please continue to pray for your PNC, as well as the various pastor candidates that will, at some point, be in conversation regarding whether God is calling them here to Calvary. As you enjoy all that summer has to offer, let me leave you with this quote from Psalm 19 about how the creation shouts forth God’s praise: “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.”
Blessings,
July 2013

YOUTH GROUP MEETINGS
… are every Monday at 7:00 to 8:30pm for middle-school students. High school youth group has the
summer off. We will start up again after Labor Day. Youth director: Ben Auger Phone: (360)825-3820
E-mail: [email protected]
MISSION TRIP—July 19-26
Please pray for our students and our ministry in Jamaica. We will visit
Litchfield Baptist Church at do VBS, children’s ministry, infirmary visit,
and street evangelism. Pray that the students attempt great things for God
and learn to expect great things from Him. Pray that our leaders lead with
passion and energy. Pray that lives our changed among the Jamaicans and
Washingtonians.
If you would like to meet our team in the parking lot to pray for us before
we leave, please meet us at 10:00am.
We’ve been asked what kind of supplies or donations might be sent with us
to Litchfield. But actually, we aren’t bringing donations or supplies because,
truthfully, they don’t need our stuff. Our goal is to bless them and be blessed
by them, and build God’s kingdom through relationships and by spreading
the Gospel. Pray for this to be accomplished!
CREATION FESTIVAL
Creation comes to Enumclaw August 7-10. Ben will be taking the youth group to Creation where they
will be camping at the fairgrounds and attending all four days of the concerts. If you would like to send
your teen (grades 6-12) with them, it costs only $118. That covers concert admission, camping fees,
supplies, showers, and food for 4 days. That’s less than $30/day for fun, food, and getting your bored
teenager out of the house to do something wholesome with other Christians. You can’t beat that deal!
Fundraisers are available to any student who wants to work for their Creation money. Call or email Ben
if you want to sign your kid up.
5TH GRADERS MOVE UP
5th graders, going into 6th grade, may begin attending middle school youth group on Monday nights at
7:00pm beginning July 1. If you have any incoming 6th graders in your family or neighborhood, it’s
important that you pass along their info to Ben so he can invite them.

Why?
Why did God make all these icky bugs; spiders,
mosquitoes, ants, gnats and things?
Well you probably won’t find answers to that ques-
tion in our library, but there are books in our collec-
tions about WHY?
Why so many gods?
Why Christian?
Why Mine?
What’s the big deal; Why God Cares
Know Why you believe
Why wait?
Why knock Rock?
Why Christmas trees aren’t perfect
Why not check it out?….oh, that’s not a book;
that’s a call for action!
Kids Quest Bible Presentation
Back in May, the Kids Quest Children's Ministry was privileged to partner with parents in nur-
turing their child's spiritual development by presenting the following 1st- 3rd Grade students
with their very own NIV New Adventure Bible. These are the Bibles we use each week in Kids
Quest and it is our hope and prayer in Children's Ministry that these students grow in the
Word as they learn about God's wonderful and amazing plan He has for each of them. (If your
child was unable to attend the presentation and has not received their Bible, it can be found on
the small information table in the Fellowship Hall.)
Bibles were presented to: Drake Anderson, Juliana Cormier, Asher Harlan, Trent Hinshaw, Zeke
Luchi, Allison Mainwaring, Cale Petsch, and Elizabeth Quilo.
Summer Break for Kids Quest!!

please enjoy your time as families worship together. You will find Worship Activity Bags in the
Narthex by the Sanctuary doors for your children to use during service. Nursery is available

PNC UPDATE
Your pastor nominating committee (PNC) has been meeting each week for the last month and a half. We are
currently working on the Ministry Information Form (MIF) which will be entered online with the PCUSA
when completed. The MIF is a comprehensive document that describes who we are as a church, the type of
person we desire to call as our new pastor, as well as demographic information about our area. Thus it is a
very important step in our pastor selection process. Prospective pastors are able to access the document online
through the PCUSA Church Leadership Connection. It is their first introduction to Calvary and the primary
source for a decision to seek further information and to express an interest in our church.
The committee would like to express our sincere thanks for your prayers and continued support.
In Christ,
Al Reiter, PNC Chair
Our dear church family and friends;
It has been a long 3 months since Connie suffered her stroke. We would like to express our
sincere thanks for the support, cards, flowers and prayers we have received from our
church family and pastoral staff. A special thanks to Sue Reiter for coordinating the meal
delivery. The meals that were delivered in the first few weeks of Connie’s recovery were
indeed a godsend. Thank you all for being so generous with your time and resources. We
hope that we may aid someone, sometime, in the same fashion.
Thank you,
John & Connie Yeakel

MISSION 2013 – A CALL TO HERITAGE AND HOPE
From World Vision
Dear Friends,
We want to thank you for your long-term sponsorship of the Varga family as part of World Vision’s Family
Sponsorship ministry in Romania. The WV Family Program in Romania is ending and we are very grateful for
your decision to continue your partnership with us as a child sponsor for Darius Stefan Bobos from Romania. As
his only sponsor, your monthly gifts demonstrate God’s unconditional love for Darius by providing access to ba-
sic life necessities like nutritious food, clean water, healthcare, education and spiritual nurture. May God richly
bless you. Sincerely,
Anthony Williams, Senior Director
Donor Services
Meet Darius Stefan Bobos Darius was born April 15, 2010 and lives with his parents in a rural area located to the northeast of
Bucharest. He has no brothers or sisters and his parents struggle to provide for the family. Most of the
houses are made of mud &brick. Much and the terrain is sandy and rocky. Summers are typically hot
and winters, very cold. Darius is not in school at this time. He likes to play with toy cars and helps at
home with cleaning. He is in satisfactory health. Staple foods in his diet are from local farmers, mostly
cereal grains, vegetables, eggs, cheese and beans. Occasionally his family eats meat. Families in his re-
gion will benefit from agricultural workshops to improve their yields.
Our support will help provide his community with educational, medical, along with church support
of Bibles and Christian materials in helping leaders share the love of God within their community.
Please remember Darius in your prayers.
Plateau Outreach Ministries Update
On May 15th The Seattle Foundation held their annual giveBIG campaign. POM was one of the recipients of do-
nations a portion of which will go towards their capital campaign giving more space for service projects and help-
ing in the life of the community. Reported in the evening hours $10,643 had been donated with more time left!
Very impressive! Volunteers are always needed. For information check in at their Cole Street location.
Kaylee Salsbury is off to Rwanda
Many of you may remember me traveling to Zambia on a mission trip four summers
ago. Going back to Africa was an opportunity I never thought I would have again,
however, I do. This summer I am going to Gashora, Rwanda on a service learning
trip through Western Washington University. As a college student, it can be difficult
to find the time and the funds to study abroad, but there are some opportunities in
life that you can not pass up, and I felt that this was one of them. I will be in Gashora
working with the community members for six weeks.
Building Bridges with Rwanda, was set up last summer and Western plans to continue sending students to build
relationships with the people of the community. This is a very important trip for me because Africa has been
heavy on my heart ever since I got back from Zambia four years ago. I can not wait to go work with people of a
community that is extremely foreign to me and push myself to see what I can learn from them. I can not wait to be
a part of it and share my experiences with all of you once I arrive back. If you would like to help support Kaylee
please contact Lynn Salsbury at 360.825.0797. Thank you!

From Th

Isaiah 40:31 - But they that wait upon
the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as
eagles...
Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you. Romans 15:7
The next step in the interim process will deal with our hopes and dreams for Calvary. It is a time
when we move to the next step in our future. As part of that future, I have been thinking about how
to encourage visitors as they explore Calvary as a possible church home. We have made progress
with our welcoming; we say hello to the new persons and we have made the effort to make sure they
get into conversations after the service. We can take this welcoming attitude and extend it a bit more.
What I would invite you to consider is to volunteer to follow up with our visitors. We get visitor
information from the friendship folders. It would be a positive next step if the new persons received a
phone call to show our interest in them. Maybe you would take them to coffee or invite them to one
of our activities such as the barn dance or church barbeque.
Trish says she could keep track of the visitors and place a call to one of us who would follow up with
the “newbies.” She can develop a roster of folks who will do this and pair you up with a newcomer.
If you are interested in volunteering, give the office a call and Trish can take down your information.
Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels
without knowing it. Hebrews 13:2
