January 2010 Bay Area Riders Forum About BARF

The History of BARF In January of 2001, Bay Area Riders Forum (BARF) went online, joining legions of internet websites catering to motorcyclists. BARF’s difference was its dedication to community, the SF Bay Area to be specific, rather than catering to a specific brand of motorcycle or type of riding. What began as an internet message board grew into a social community of motorcyclists who use the website as a means of communication, organization, and as a reference for all their motorcycling needs.

BARF has consistently delivered a reliable high-speed site that adapts to the needs of its membership more rapidly than most national sites. Few motorcycling sites, even at the national level, have the flexibility and passion that Bay Area Riders Forum has delivered consistently since its inception. In seven years, Bay Area Riders Forum has grown from a hobby site of few members to the largest Bay Area motorcycling resource with over 35,000 registered members and countless unregistered visitors (7000 per day avg). The website, only one of BARF’s many presences, has churned out over 5 million pages of content every month for the past year. The website is only a small portion of the activity of BARF’s members; on any given week you will find these enthusiasts riding together in the foothills, dragging their knees at the track, getting dirty riding trails, meeting up at 8 different locations for social activities, and handfuls of other activities organized by members and these are open to all motorcyclists. BARF has hundreds of user organized group rides every year and also has official barf rallies. The BARF Rydthere Rally a three day tour of the Sierra’s. A spring Rally and this year our first Euro Rally.

BARF goes Racing BARF has racing ingrained in our blood. We have two road racers running as Barf Racing in AFM and AMA events. Our mini road racing team is now moving on to USGPRU as our champion has turned 12. We have a dirt bike racer running under DirtyBARFracing and sponsored a side car team and a land speed effort too. We have riders sponsored in the Cal 24 endurance street ride and are a sponsor in the AFM series. I spent 10 years racing motocross and road racing and that passion is part of our legacy.

BARF Cares about the New Generation: 2 Wheels in the 21st Century A Safety Seminar for young motorcyclist. We also realize that our sport is growing and that motorcyclist face unique dangers on the road. Young riders don’t have to go thru the school of hard knocks to get the info they need to be safer on the street. We visit High Schools with Safety/Information Seminars with the support of the California Motorcycle Safety Program talking to students about the right training, the right gear and the right bike. The premise of the Motorcycle Safety Foundations effort to inform riders and we are doing our part. Kids can check out the safety info and walk the line wearing “Drunk Goggles”. They can ask questions of MSF instructors and check out riding gear as well. Here are a few photo’s from these events.

The Future of BARF In 2008 BARF launched the 1Rider Motorcycle Safety Campaign. We have a forum called 1Rider on our site that is specifically directed towards providing information on the ride and inspire thought about it. We have a new website under development and have already started to get out to the hot riding areas to get our message out. We join local agencies too in helping get the word out on their motorcycle safety events. Ride Smart today and Ride again tomorrow. Get Home Safe!

We are a group of enthusiast that are dedicated to our sport and to keeping it strong, while making it safer for those that participate in it. By taking it to the streets we get to pass that message to riders that may not be aware of many ways to learn to ride at a higher level. We firmly believe with better skills and better knowledge motorcyclist will be better/safer riders. Our efforts have been noted by the State of California and we are part of two State Programs to enhance rider safety to our State and the MSF Program.

The website will have many different graphics for people to check out and will have links to many important aspects of motorcycling. Here are a few examples of the graphics. All will be downloadable for our partners and others to print out. We display these at our outings as well.

Here are a few photo’s from the events to date.

Barf Cares about our sport The Bay Area Riders Forum recognizes that our sport has adversaries out there and we do our part to promote being active in the fights for our rights to ride and live our lives as we choose.. we choose to ride! We also want to help racing organizations get the word out on there events; most of the time we do this for free, because we love racing too! Here are a couple of examples of banner ad’s and more of what we do to support the sport!

Here to Stay Bay Area Riders Forum has been around for eight years now. In that time its server environment has been upgraded 6 times, and with new servers being located here in the Bay Area that won’t be the end of the growth. These changes have been put into place to ensure the continued high-speed and reliability of the internet component. These upgrades have forced BARF to provide not just a fast server, but a complete infrastructure with load distribution, redundancy, and a Disaster Recovery plan that rivals most small, and some large, businesses. With the new parent Company Net Extreme sports BARF has answered the challenge to secure its viability; ensuring that the website doesn’t just disappear when its founder loses interest. In addition to business alliances, BARF offers many services to businesses and individual consumers so that no single revenue stream is relied upon to stay afloat. This diversification of BARF’s risk is directly responsible for the reduction of risk to customers. The processes and policies, put into place and reviewed by a Panel of Advisors and enforced by a team of moderators. This keeps BARF targeted at the greater good of its audience without relying on one or two people’s judgment. All of this work is an ongoing process to protect the value of the organization to its members and the longevity and effectiveness of the organization for its partners, all without loosing sight of its purpose. With all of this in place, BARF is here for the long-term and there is much more to come! Please feel to contact me with any questions. Yours sincerely, Denny “Budman” Kobza Owner – Net Extreme Sports.com
