STATE OF THE CLUB

FROM MANAGING DIRECTOR DAVID JURCAK

As 2017 comes to a close, I would like to take a

moment to reflect on the truly momentous and

exciting year Barton Creek Country Club has

experienced. We kicked off a multi-year golf course

improvement campaign on Fazio Foothills and will

continue with improvements on Coore Crenshaw

Cliffside in 2018 and Fazio Canyons in 2019. We broke

ground on the brand new Canyons Clubhouse, which

will add a golf shop, restaurant and day locker rooms

to our top-ranked course in March of 2018. And, most

importantly, we finalized renovation plans that will

dramatically transform the Club and the resort, taking

the Member experience to a remarkable new level.

As soon as we secured city approval on the plans, we

immediately commenced construction work.

As you can see from the detailed construction

schedule that follows, exciting times are ahead of us.

However, with a project of this size, we know there will

be disruptions, particularly in the next six months.

Therefore, dues will not increase in 2018. We ask for

your continued patience and understanding as we

navigate through the work ahead and restore Barton

Creek Country Club to its former glory, making it

Austin’s premiere Country Club. With your continued

support, we will once again provide our Members with

the level of experience you both expect and deserve.

We are fully confident the end result will be worth it.

I would like to personally thank our Board of

Governors Members for their ongoing feedback and

support throughout the year, and I’d like to extend a

special thank you to outgoing Lakeside Board Members

Pat Lafferty and Tom Mercer for their honorable service

to the Club.

I wish you a happy holiday season. Cheers to an

incredible New Year!

Cheers to our Members!

As we bring 2017 to a close, I would like to thank you all

for your active participation in our Member events, new

Member referrals and your incredible support of our

fundraising initiative for the Darrell K Royal Research Fund

Throughout the course of this year, we were honored

to welcome princesses at our Princess Tea, hop down

the bunny trail at the annual Easter Carnival, laugh

with the elves at Photos with Santa, jump for joy at our

weekly Family Night and much more. The cocktail parties

saw record attendance in 2017. Our annual Holiday

Cocktail Party & Gala was a success thanks to our House

Committee and generous Members. Special thanks goes to

Master Goldsmith and jewelry designer Zoltan David and

his wife Patti who donated "Kamala" which helped raise

Dolls for making this trip memorable!

As we finalize the details of our 2018 Club calendar, we

CLOSURE OF CLUBHOUSE

In order to expedite the completion of the Club renovation, please be aware that the Clubhouse will be completely

closed from January 29 to March 30, 2018. During this time, Members will not have access to any area within the

clubhouse, except for the Foothills Pro Shop. In addition, the wet areas will be closed from January 29 through June 15,

2018. The renovated locker rooms will re-open on April 1, but the wet areas will remain closed until June 15.

We recognize this is quite a disruption and we apologize for the inconvenience. However, this will allow us to

complete the renovations in a timely manner and let you begin enjoying your brand new Club with upgraded

amenities as soon as possible.

Beginning in March, we invite you to join us for lunch and dinner at the brand new Canyons Grill, which is located

inside your new Canyons Clubhouse.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding as we progress through this extensive project.

Thank you for your unwavering support over the past year as we officially launched the Evolution of Barton Creek. We

continue to focus our energy on new ways to enhance your Member experience and looking back, we made great strides in

2017. As we set out to grow our food and beverage program at the Club, we identified the need for a club executive chef who

not only focuses on the Tejas Dining Room, but also works with our special interest groups to create memorable Member

events. Chef Genevieve Young accepted this position in June and immediately elevated the overall Member experience from

her rollout of the new Tejas menu to her work with La Bonne Cuisine, WGA, MGA and 8212 Club.

This year, we partnered with KE Camps for our summer kids camps and will continue our relationship based on the

overwhelmingly positive feedback we’ve received regarding the program. We established our Club Valet department and plan

to expand the operational hours in the first quarter of 2018. After another successful tennis season, we bid farewell to the

tennis courts in preparation for the renovation, and fortunately, Monte and his team were able to secure off-site courts for

Member matches, lessons and regular play while our new courts are under construction.

As we continue to look for new and innovative ways to elevate your experience, we have enlisted Olympic medalist Brendan

Hansen with Austin Aquatics & Sports Academy to operate our Sharks swim program. We will offer an extended summer

swim program with more to come throughout the year. We also welcomed Dr. Matt Lowe to the fitness center team earlier

this year to provide sports therapy that treats sports injuries and improves sports performance. He is on the U.S. National

Swimming Team staff and has treated active individuals as well as professional athletes from the NFL, NBA, PGA, NCAA and

the U.S. Olympic team.

We have much to be excited about in 2018, from the new Canyons Clubhouse and Canyons Grill opening this March to the

member Clubhouse upgrades, including new interiors and an overhaul of the men’s and women’s locker rooms, expected to be

completed by summer. Then later in summer 2018, we will open our brand new pool cabana with a full bar and kitchen where

Members can gather for poolside cocktails and cuisine. We look forward to ringing in what is sure to be an amazing year for

the Members of Barton Creek Country Club!

A MESSAGE FROM DIRECTOR OF CLUB MANAGEMENT MIKE SIZEMORE

This year will go down in Barton Creek Country Club

history books as a year of tremendous transition.

While the overall property renovation project started in

November, the golf courses began their transformation in

the spring.

This transformation was the culmination of approved

planned capital projects, increased labor resources, and a

new leadership structure in our golf course maintenance

department. After a review of labor with our corporate

Director of Agronomy Scott Abernathy, PhD, we made

significant changes to our golf course maintenance

department from a restructured wage scale to an ongoing

partnership with a third party company who helps us

bring in students who complete internships for their

turf grass management program in Vietnam. These hard

working men and women, combined with our existing

staff, have worked tirelessly to improve the playing

conditions of our courses, and the results of their efforts

are visible every day.

We also restructured the leadership of our golf course

maintenance teams at the Fazio Canyons, Fazio Foothills,

and Coore Crenshaw courses. This improved leadership

structure has allowed for more hands-on coaching and

the restoration of detail into our course conditions. This

is hands down the best this team has functioned in years

and we are excited to see their progress continue. The

most visible change has come from our efforts to clean

up all native areas surrounding the golf holes. This has

been a massive undertaking. By the end of this month,

we will have completed all tree and brush removal

from the impacted areas. Our goal is to have the areas

cleaned up and treated for broadleaf weeds by the end of

February. This will allow all native areas to transition out

of dormancy at the same pace creating a uniform look on

our courses.

In 2017, the single most significant transformation has

been on Fazio Foothills. The Fazio Foothills renovation

began in mid-April and since then, we have completely

replaced the irrigation system, rebuilt and redesigned

all tee boxes, rebuilt and redesigned all bunkers, and

cleared out all native areas around the course, as well as a

number of other projects.

Although the majority of work will be completed by end

of 2017, the reopening date for Foothills has yet to be

determined. We must allow for the ecology of the project

to catch up; all of the newly planted areas need time to

grow in seamlessly before we allow play. If we continue

to have great weather this winter, we can expect to play

the Foothills in early spring 2018. If we have cold weather,

which puts our Bermuda grass deeper into dormancy, the

opening of the course may be delayed to allow additional

time for growth.

Golf Course Architect Tom Fazio reviews the course work on

Foothills hole #18 and discusses plans to better present the

hole's cave feature.

We will keep you updated through early 2018 on Foothills

reopening date. We will continue to host golf course tours

of the Foothills course all the way up until opening. We

encourage all of you to register on the Members' website

to take this tour to see the changes on Fazio Foothills and

to learn more about what to expect when it reopens in

2018.

This year, the Fazio Canyons and Coore Crenshaw

Cliffside courses also underwent a significant native area

cleanup project. This work was completed in advance of

the courses’ renovation projects so those areas have time

to reset and somewhat mature once the renovation work

is complete. The Coore Crenshaw Cliffside course will

close June through September 2018. The Fazio Canyons

course will close June through September 2019. Though

the overall scope of work is still being finalized, the main

focus of work will be rebuilding and redesigning the

bunkers and the tee complexes. Both projects will not be

as invasive as the Foothills work.

One final update as we head into 2018, we have been

actively working with Omni Hotels & Resorts Chief

Information Officer Ken Barnes and a third party software

company to provide the Club with an online tee time

solution that will interface with our existing system. We

believe we should have a solution installed and available

for your use sometime in the first quarter of 2018.

From all of us in the golf department, we wish each of you

a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Next year will

be an exciting year for all of us as we get to experience the

newly built and renovated locations throughout Barton

Creek!
