Love divine, all love excelling, Joy of heav’n, to earth come down! Fix in us thy humble dwelling, All thy faithful mercies crown. Jesus thou art all compassion, Pure, unbound-ed love thou art; Visit us with thy salvation, Enter ev’ry trem-bling heart.

Breathe, oh, breathe thy loving Spirit Into ev’ry troubled breast; Let us all in thee inherit; Let us find thy prom-ised rest. Take away the love of sinning; Alpha and Ome-

There is a truth older than the ages. There is a promise of things yet to come. There is One born for our salvation: Jesus. There is a light that overwhelms the darkness. There is a kingdom that forever reigns. There is freedom from the chains that bind us: Jesus. Jesus.

Chorus: Who walks on the waters, Who speaks to the sea, Who stands in the fire beside me. He roars like a lion. He bled as the Lamb. He carries my healing in His hands; Jesus.

There is a name I call in times of trouble. There is a song that comforts in the night. There is a voice that calms the storm that rag-es: He is Jesus, Jesus. (chorus)

Messiah, my Savior, There is power in Your name. You’re my rock and my Redeemer; There is power in Your name, In Your name.

You walk on the waters, You speak to the sea, You stand in the fire beside me. You roar like a lion. You bled as the Lamb. You carry my healing in Your hands; (repeat)

Jesus. There is no one like You. Jesus. There is no one like You.

Prayer of the Day

P: Let us pray together: C:Almighty God, to You all hearts are open, all de-

sires known, and from You no secrets are hidden. Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the working of Your Holy Spirit, that we may love You, serve You, and magnify Your Holy name. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

First Reading Job 38:4-18 4 “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding. 5 Who determined its measurements—surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? 6 On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone, 7 when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

8 “Or who shut in the sea with doors when it burst out from the womb, 9 when I made clouds its garment and thick darkness its swaddling band, 10 and prescribed limits for it and set bars and doors, 11 and said, ‘Thus far shall you come, and no far-ther, and here shall your proud waves be stayed’? 12 “Have you commanded the morning since your days began, and caused the dawn to know its place, 13 that it might take hold of the skirts of the earth, and the wicked be shaken out of it? 14 It is changed like clay under the seal, and its features stand out like a garment. 15 From the wicked their light is withheld, and their uplifted arm is broken. 16 “Have you entered into the springs of the sea, or walked in the recesses of the deep? 17 Have the gates of death been revealed to you, or have you seen the gates of deep darkness? 18 Have you comprehended the expanse of the earth? Declare, if you know all this.

L: This is the Word of the Lord. C:Thanks be to God!

5 For Moses writes about the righteousness that is based on the law, that the person who does the com-mandments shall live by them. 6 But the righteous-ness based on faith says, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 “or ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); 9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justi-fied, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who be-lieves in him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

L: This is the Word of the Lord.

Gospel Reading Matthew 14:22-33 22 Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dis-missed the crowds. 23 And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, 24 but

the boat by this time was a long way[a] from the land,[b] beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them. 25 And in the fourth watch of the night[c] he came to them, walking on the sea. 26 But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terri-fied, and said, “It is a ghost!” and they cried out in fear. 27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, say-ing, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.” 28 And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, com-mand me to come to you on the water.” 29 He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind,[d] he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” 31 Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. 33 And those in the boat worshiped him, say-ing, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin

Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The

third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Fa-ther Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian

Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life ever-lasting. Amen.

What a friend we have in Jesus, All our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry Ev’rything to God in prayer! Oh, what peace we often forfeit; Oh, what needless pain we bear— All because we do not carry Ev’rything to God in prayer!

Page 10: A Heart to Heart With JesusJul 08, 2020  · Jesus. Jesus. Chorus: Who walks on the waters, Who speaks to the sea, Who stands in the fire beside me. He roars like a lion. He bled as

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trou-ble anywhere? We should never be discouraged— Take it to the Lord in prayer. Can we find a friend so faithful Who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our ev’ry weakness— Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden, Cumbered with a load of care? Precious Savior, still our refuge— Take it to the Lord in prayer. Do your friends despise forsake you? Take it to the Lord in prayer. In his arms he’ll take and shield you; You will find a solace there.

The Prayers of the Church

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us;

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us

from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

The Benediction

P: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you. The Lord look upon you with his favor and give you peace.

C:Amen.

Closing Song: Lord, I Need You

(Christy Nockels, Daniel Carson, Jesse Reeves, Kristian Stanfill, Matt Maher © 2001 sixsteps Mu-sic, (Admin. By EMI Christian Music Publishing) CCLI #32802)

Lord I come, I confess, Bowing here I find my rest. And without You I fall apart. You’re the one that guides my heart.

Chorus: Lord I need You, oh I need You. Every hour I need You. My one defense my righteousness, Oh God how I need You.

Where sin runs deep Your grace is more. Where grace is found is where You are. And where You are, Lord I am free. Holiness is Christ in me . (chorus)

Page 12: A Heart to Heart With JesusJul 08, 2020  · Jesus. Jesus. Chorus: Who walks on the waters, Who speaks to the sea, Who stands in the fire beside me. He roars like a lion. He bled as

So teach my song to rise to You, When temptation comes my way. And when I cannot stand I’ll fall on You, Jesus You’re my hope and stay. And when I cannot stand I’ll fall on You. Jesus You’re my hope and stay. (chorus)

My one defense my righteousness, Oh God how I need You.
