Grading Policies and Expectations

Choosing Courses for 2015-2016 School Year

My Four Year Plan

Credits and Graduation Requirements

Earning Credits

Students earn credit for a course by earning a passing grade (70 or higher) in the course.

Grading Scale:• A = 90 or higher• B = 80-89• C = 70-79• F = 69 or below

Grade Level Placement/Promotion:• Freshmen= Less than 5 credits• Sophomore = 5 – 10.5 credits• Junior = 11 – 16.5 credits• Senior = 17 or more credits

Graduation Requirements

• 4 English• 4 Mathematics• 4 Science• 3 Social Studies• 1 Health/Physical Education (.5 each)• 3 CTAE and/or World Language and/or Fine Arts*• 4 additional elective units

Students must earn a total of 23 credits:

• Counselors will conduct classroom guidance lessons and supplementary parent nights to support students in meeting these requirements.

• *Note: 2 or 3 years of World Language credits may be required for college admission

Graduation Status Report

Credits from Middle School

High School Credits from Middle School

Students can earn High School credits for Math, Physical Science and/or World Languages while in Middle School (7th and 8th grade World Language equals 1.0 high school credit).

Students/Parents may choose to accept the grade/credit or deny the grade/credit and retake the course in high school.*

High School credits earned in Middle School are not included in HOPE Scholarship GPA calculations.

* More information will come from the Middle School at the end of the school year.

Grading Differences

In Middle School grades are calculated using the

system of averages.

• Example 8th grade English *Semester 1- 60 *Semester 2-80 *Yearly average-70

• (student passes class)

In High School grades arenot averaged… Each

semester is independent.

• Example 9th grade English *Semester 1- 60 *Semester 2- 80 *No yearly average

• (student fails 1st semester)

General Grading PoliciesInterim progress reports will be issued to students every 6 weeks

Report cards are issued at the end of S1 and S2; these final grades are reflected on the high school transcript

Each course semester is independent of the other; S1 and S2 course grades are NOT averaged

Honors and AP courses receive an additional 7 points added to the final passing grade

Parents can use Home Access Center (HAC) to track assignments, grades, attendance, discipline, etc. during the semester

How do you know you’re in TAG when you come to the

Hooch?• If you have been in TAG, your eligibility will roll

over into high school.• Your middle school TAG teachers will send a

list of all rising 9th grade TAG students to the Hooch TAG department chair (me) and your TAG folders. We know who you are before you get here!

• I go visit our feeder Middle Schools in May

Check your schedule

*Your class schedule for the FALL semester will show TAG as an 8th period class. This is only in order to give you TAG credit on your report card. There is no 8th period class.

Don’t worry… TAG is NOT after school.

If you do not have an 8th period when you get your schedule in the

fall

• I will have a table set up in the cafeteria on registration day – you can come see me then

• Or you can email me– [email protected]

We have a TAG Edmodo Page
