command is therefore authorized…provided the specific means chosen are not forbidden elsewhere in the Scripture

Is The Church The Primary Teacher?• Admission…the church is not the primary

classroom teacher for children• God has never placed this responsibility

collectively on His people• He didn’t in the O.T. Deut 6:6-7, 20-25• He hasn’t in the N.T. Eph 6:4

• We are exposed to children whose parents are not Christians

• We can teach the children whose parents are not teaching them

• The church is equipped to teach Eph 4:11-16

“barriers” to brethren teaching class Brethren aren’t “knocking the door down,”

begging the church to let them teach Quite often, the church has to resort to

begging brethren to get involved in teaching

of this local church• Most of the children here now will

eventually move away• We’re concerned with their future

• Brethren have repeatedly had to answer a call, rally around a need

• Physical need, want Acts 4:34-35 6:1-4• The threat of error Acts 15:1-2

Conclusion• We’re not trying to be like Chicken Little

• No one is paranoid• No one is being accused of not loving the

children of this church enough• We’re not bemoaning the fact that no one is

involved in teaching our Bible classes

Conclusion• As our children get older, they become

more and more exposed the world with which the adults are already very familiar• Families need to be teaching their children• This local church needs to diligently support

our families…but the church can’t do it all

Conclusion• Jesus taught us that all children are

precious Mt 19:13-14• Except for their parents, no one loves these

children more than the saints in this church• Saints will show their love by helping to

instruct these children toward heaven
