A Day in the Life of a Scholar Athlete

(A Story About a Basketball Team That Works Harder Than Any Other)

• At the Charles A. Tindley Accelerated School, students are prepared for college in a very rigorous way. By junior year, many of the students are taking college courses. In fact, the slogan for the school is “College…or Die.” Students are not referred to as student, but as scholars and it takes even more to be an athlete at Tindley than most other high school. ISHAA regulates than in order for an athlete to be eligible to play he/she must have no more than two F’s. At Tindley, in order to play on any sports team, a scholar can have no more than two C’s and there are no D’s.

Practice

In order to prep for the game, Coach calls multiple practices a week. This week the boys basketball team is playing Fall Creek Academy

The Game

Pre-game warmups are essential for any team. Here we see the team running a gauntlet of drills to get their blood pumping.

At halftime and up 5 points, Coach tells the team the necessity of intensityand cooperation. He believes that this team can win the game by 20 points

if they work hard.

Coach’s words must have had an effect. Because in the second half, the Tindley Tigers took a 17 point lead and didn’t look back.

Victory is sweet.
