PVS Scholar Athlete Award
Background/Criteria [Date]
A student athlete must submit an online application. No paper applications will be accepted.
Note
The purpose of this award is to emphasize the importance of scholastic achievement through a program that recognizes the scholastic excellence of Potomac Valley swimmers. ELIGIBILITY: Open to all PVS/USA Swimming athletes who:
1. Have completed grade 9, 10, 11 or 12 during 2015-2016; 2. Have attained a 3.5 or higher grade point average (GPA) for the 2015-2016 school year; AND 3. Have achieved a 3.5, or higher, Event Standard Average in a minimum of five events. NOTE: a maximum of two (2) ‘B’ times or one (1) ‘C’ time are permitted.
Note: The above wording has been updated to clarify current PVS requirements for receiving this award. The GPA requirement is for the 2015-2016 Academic Year. An applicant can have a GPA lower than 3.5 in a specific grading period, so long as the year-long GPA is 3.5 or greater. Also please note that per the PVS Board, modifications to these criteria will be considered to allow Athletes attending Fairfax County Schools to be judged on an equal basis with Athletes from other School Districts. Furthermore, Home‐Schooled Athletes shall be eligible to participate, provided that their Application is reviewed and approved by a Committee appointed by the PVS Board.

To be eligible for the Award, an athlete must
maintain a 3 .5 , or higher, event standard average in
a MINIMUM OF F IVE (5 ) EVEN TS offered in the swimmer's age group.
Comparable Short Course Yards (SCY) and Long Course Meters
(LCM) Events (i.e. 100 SCY Freestyle and 100 LCM
Freestyle) are considered separate Events. Times must be obtained at a USA Swimming or
Potomac Valley Swimming sanctioned or approved short course or long course meets
during the 2015-2016 season. High school dual‐meet times
may not be used. (You may use the time standards applicable to your age on the first day of
the meet.) Conversions
A, AA, AAA, AAAA = 4 pts. B, BB = 3 pts.
Any Slower Time = 2 pts.
DEADLINE
All applications and report cards MUST BE SUBMITTED AND/OR EMAILED NO LATER THAN OCTOBER 15, 2016.
