The Internet
The Internet is made of millions of computers connected together all over the
planet.
They share information with each other that you can see on your computer.
Browser
A Browser is a Program used to look at the Internet
You use the Browser to visit Websites
Website addresses are called URL’s
WebsiteA Website is a place
on the internet…
Websites are made of Web Pages…
Web Pages are just like book pages… but they are on your computer
screen!
URL’s
A Website has an address, just like your house…A website address is called a URL
URL stands for “Uniform Resource Locator”You type in the URL in the Browser to visit a
Website
Download
Information on a Computer is kept in a place called a File.
The Internet has Files too!
If you find a File on the Internet that you like, you can Download it.
Downloading a File means keeping it on your computer to use later.
Music!You can find music on the
Internet and play it on your computer…
You can Download music Files to keep on your Computer
Music Files on your computer are called MP3’s
Videos!You can watch Videos on the
Internet.
Some video Files are very large and must
be Streamed.Streaming means Downloading a Video File and watching it at the same
time!
Games!You can play Games
on the Internet.
Some Games need special Software
called a Plug-In to be able to play
them.You need to Download the Plug-In to the computer before the Game will
work.
Photos!You can look at Photos
on the Internet.
You can Download Photos from the
Internet to keep on your Computer.You can Download Photos from your
camera to keep on your Computer.
Anti-VirusSome Files you
Download can make Computer sick.
This bad Software is called a Virus.
Software called Anti-Virus can erase the Virus Software on your computer.
