Facilitator Guide #1Objectives:

•Introduce the student (s) to the concept of community.

•Provide the student (s) with a definition of community.

•Parallels community to the human body by display, demonstration and

•describing how each part of the body plays a significant role to the body’s overall well being.

Time Required: 10 minutes

Materials: Paper Handout, pencil or pen, student volunteer.

Procedure: Begin by providing a definition of community to the group in addition to explaining what each body part does. Next, explain the order of rankings from most important (6) to least important (1). Finally, allow students to identify what part of the body they are.

Question: How does the student determine what part of the body the are?

Answer: Students can determine what part of the body they are by identifying who they are as a person. A student’s gifts, talents and abilities play a vital role in identifying who the student is and what part of the person would be. In addition, the participant’s positions within her/his family, extracurricular activities (i.e. sports team, clubs, groups) are to be taken into consideration.

•Success Measurement: Student’s ability to articulate exercise content in word and in action.

Accommodates tactile, audio and visual learning styles.

Procedure: Begin by asking for a student volunteer.

Note: Be sure that the student volunteer is physically capable of performing these exercises. Safety First!!

•Next, instruct the student volunteer to lift up one leg with both arms stretched out. The student is to hold this posture for three minutes. Next, ask the student volunteer to run in place for approximately one minute.

Questions to Ponder:

1. What happens when all parts of the body are not functioning?

2. What causes some parts of the body to remain idle?

3. How does the body main its balance?

4. Where is a person going if they are running in place?

•Success Measurement: Student’s ability to articulate exercise content in word and inaction.
