Please make sure to double check your information and projects that your enrolled in. If you plan on taking a 4-H project to the Ohio State Fair and/or the Highland County Fair; you must be enrolled in that project. New members must have contacted an advisor prior to April 1 to join for the 2020 4-H year. New members will still be completing a paper enrollment form for the 2020 4-H year. Forms will only be accepted from advisors. Club Annual Paperwork 4-H Club Annual report, Constitution, Bylaws, Club Meeting Schedules and Club Verification Forms are due to the Extension Office on or before May 14, 2020. Enrollment

Buckeye Leadership Workshop

Buckeye Leadership Workshop is a learning, sharing “workshop” intended as a balanced program of social, physical, mental, and spiritual activities. We believe that Buckeye Leadership Workshop provides a powerful learning environment in which anyone who works with people, professionally or informally, can develop programming for youth or adults. Buckeye Leadership Workshop is March 25 – March 29, 2020. Deadline March 11. For more information contact the OSU Extension Office at 937-393-1918 or check out https://buckeyeleadership.com/.

OSU Extension/4-H Annual Fundraiser

Mark your Calendars for Saturday, April 18, 2020. Join us for a wonderful meal, silent and live auctions at the Highland County Fairgrounds in the Poultry and Rabbit Barn. This is a great way to support OSU Extension, Highland County. Remember, donations are accepted at the OSU Extension office for the auction. We encourage all the clubs to donate an item or basket to help support the 4-H program in Highland County.

Member Officer & Advisor Training (MOA)

All clubs must have at least one advisor attend MOA Training on Monday, April 20, 2020 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Hillsboro High School in order to remain a club in good standing. Everyone is invited to attend. Jana Holbrook, Jr. Fair Coordinator, will be there to provide an update on all of the Jr. Fair changes for the 2020 Highland County Fair.

Winning 4-H Plan

Winning 4-H Plan request forms and final 4-H plan need to be completed by June 1, 2020. A completed Winning 4-H Plan includes the request form and a meeting with the child, guardian and extension educator to discuss and plan out the year’s accommodations. Please contact the office for more information.

FCS Board

FCS Board applications are due April 25, 2019. Applications are available at: https://highland.osu.edu/program-areas/4-h-youth-development/forms-applications-resources

Ohio State Fair opportunities

Ohio State Fair runs July 29th-August 9th. This event allows additional opportunities for youth 4-H members to showcase their work on projects. For youth to show their project at the Ohio State Fair, youth must be enrolled in the project they plan on taking. Highland County enrollment is deadline is April 1.

Rate a project you have already taken and share your feedback.Please take time to rate the projects you have taken! 4-H Graduation Cords

4-H Graduation Honor Cords will be available this year for current 4-H seniors to purchase. These green and white cords will proudly proclaim seniors’ long-time active involvement in the Highland County 4-H Program and their local 4-H club. The cords, pictured here, are available from OSU Extension Highland County. To order yours, please send a check, payable to OSU Extension, Highland County, in the amount of $15.00, on or before Thursday, April 9. We will place the order with National 4-H Supply, and let you know when you can stop in to pick up your cords. Of course, purchasing and wearing the cords is optional. We will provide all area high schools with a list of all our graduating seniors who purchase a cord so they are aware of what the cord represents. Let’s show our colors at graduation. New for 2020

• Make-Up judging will now be prior to Summer Judging; July 1. Members must call ahead to schedule an interview.

• Pre-Fair judging will be held on August 22 starting at 9a.m. in the Jr. Fair Building at the Fairgrounds.

• Skillathon OR a Project Interview is a requirement for ALL animal projects to be shown at fair-this is for project completion only. Exhibitors must bring a 2020 up-to-date project book.

3 options for competition :1) Project Interviews for 4-H will on Entry Day on July 17 from 12 (noon) - 6p.m.2) Skillathon with OME eligibility and 4-H will be August 22 from 10a.m - 5p.m.3) Last Chance skillathon for 4-H is August 29 from 10a.m. - 2p.m.

Wednesday, March 18- Sunday, March 22, 2020. Admission to the Ohio Beef Expo is Free. Parking at the Ohio Expo Center is $5.00/day. Weekend passes are $14.00 each.

Swine News:

• Any youth showing hogs at the Ohio State Fair or national show will have to have a parent or guardian certified in adult Pork Quality Assurance. You will need that number in order to enter. The training is offered at https://www.pork.org/certifications/pork-quality-assurance-plus/ However Kathy will be attending training later this spring to be able to offer the training in person.

• The 2020 Ohio State Fair will be going ractopamine free for Market Hog. Stay tuned: We will update you as we receive more information.

Youth Poultry Clinic

The 2020 Clinic will be held Saturday, April 18, at OSU ATI, Wooster. The postmark deadline for registration is Wednesday, April 1. The cost for the clinic is $25.00 for adults and $20.00 for youth. Registration material will be available at https://ohio4h.org/animalsciences/poultry/poultry-calendar-events.Refreshments and lunch are included in the registration fee. Vendors will be present.
