Ongoing ProgramsThe programs and services listed below are regularly scheduled at the Marquette Senior Center. We encourage you to take advantage of any or all of them. You are required to make an appointment – so if you need that service please call the office for your appointment, (906) 228-0456. The Marquette Senior Center is supported by the City of Marquette, Marquette County Senior Millage, Office of Services to the Aging, Region II Area Agency on Aging and the generous donations of individuals and organizations in the community. In accordance with all applicable State and Federal Laws – Marquette Senior Services does not discriminate in employment or the provisions of its services.* BLOOD PRESSURE – FRIDAY, DECEMBER 13TH, 11:00am – 12pm. Nurses from UP Home Health Care will be at the Center checking Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar. No appointments are necessary, donations are cheerfully accepted. * FOOT CLINIC – December’s Foot Clinic is almost full. We have limited appointments available. If you would like an appointment for December, don’t wait to call and schedule. December Foot Clinic will be held on Tuesday, December 3rd and half day Wednesday morning, December 4th. We have also added an additional day to our Foot Clinic offered by UP Home Health Care on Thursday, December 19 – from 9:00am - 12:00pm. There is a $25 fee for this service. Appointments are required and can be made by calling (906) 228-0456 today!* ABC’S FITNESS - Abs, Balance, Core & Strength! Join Instructor Gail Maki on Tuesday & Thursday at 8:45am in the Baraga Gym, and Mondays (8:45am start) and Fridays (9:15am start) in the Citizens Forum room inside the Lakeview arena. Remember: If Marquette Public Schools are closed there are no classes that day.* SENIOR FITNESS – Every Monday, Wednesday & Friday at 10:30am. This fitness class offers a low impact exercise at a pace everyone can handle. This
is an excellent group to get involved with – stop in and check it out.* TAI CHI - Tuesday & Thursday from 10:30am - 12:00pm in the Baraga Gym with instructor Maria Formolo. Tai Chi is a slow moving, core strengthening, great for your balance routine which uses gentle slow-moving motions.* HIGH - LOW GROUP FITNESS (formerly known as Paula’s Fitness) – Every Monday, Wednesday & Friday at 9:00am in the Baraga Gym. This is a higher-impact aerobics class involving a variety of cardio, floor and some weights. Join Paula, Lynn, Gail, Sandy & Diane as they alternate routines. Remember: If Marquette Public Schools are closed there are no classes that day.* MAHJONG – Is played every TUESDAY/THURSDAY afternoon @ 1:00pm. Come join the fun! Don’t know how to play? No problem, there is always someone willing to teach you! If you are new to this game, please call (906) 228-0456 to find out how to sign up for this event.* PINOCHLE – Join the Pinochle fun on Monday mornings beginning at 11:00am. Hope to see you there!* PICKLEBALL – We welcome back to the Baraga Gym our Pickleball Friends. We’ve got the nets, rackets and pickleballs. Mondays-Wednesdays-Fridays 10:15am-12:15pm for advanced and intermediate play and 12:15pm - 2:00pm for beginners, and Tuesday & Thursdays 12:00pm - 3:00 pm all skill levels.* SUPERIOR THEATRE EXPERIENCE – SENIOR THEATRE ACTING CLASS – Senior Acting is held twice a month with instructor Moire Embley at 2:00pm at the Marquette Arts and Culture Center located in the lower level of Peter White Public Library. This - n - That• The Baraga Gym and the Senior Center offices will be CLOSED WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 24TH AND THURSDAY, DECEMBER 25TH for the Christmas Holiday.
• The Baraga Gym and Senior Center will also be CLOSED TUESDAY DECEMBER 31ST AND WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 1ST in observance of the New Year Holiday.
• PLEASE REMEMBER: November 1st started the winter parking ban. Please remember to park on the SOUTH side of Spring Street until spring.
• Meals at the Center – Every other Tuesday you can join us for our congregate meals. You must register for the congregate meals by calling (906) 228-0456. A Caring for the Community topic will be presented once per month immediately following the meal. December: Join us for a fun day of cocoa and cookie decorating with Santa’s helpers!
• REMEMBER: Senior Skate is back! Join us for fun on the ice at the Lakeview Arena every Friday from 7:00pm – 8:30pm. See you there!
• Gail Maki and her ABC Fitness class will NOT be held on Wednesdays at the Lakeview Arena! Instead, look for Gail and her dynamic energy on Wednesdays in the Baraga Gym joining forces with Lynn, Diane and Sandy for High-Low Group Fitness (Formerly Paula’s Fitness)!

Senior Arts will be held twice a month from 1:00pm-3:00pm at the Arts & Culture Center located in the lower level of Peter White Public Library. Each month, a professional, local artist will lead the group on a new project! Senior Arts is funded by the Reynolds Foundation and the City of Marquette Senior Center. Non-City seniors - there will be a $5.00 per class charge to help cover the costs of supplies and instruction.
NOTE: Starting in January 2020, Senior Arts classes will be held on the first and third Wednesday of each month, instead of Tuesday. In the event of holidays, classes will be held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month.

Art Corner . . .
SILVER SAMPLERThe Silver Sampler program is an outdoor recreation program for those 55 years of age and older who live within the service area of the Marquette Senior Center, the City of Marquette, Marquette Township, Chocolay Township and Powell Township. Our goal is to encourage folks to get out to play in the outdoors, and to build skills, confidence and connections for exploring the outdoors through safe and supported events.
Dates/locations/times are subject to change due to conditions and/or weather. We reserve the right to limit the number of participants for activities – please note our main mode of communication is via our Marquette Senior Center Website, Newsletters and Silver Sampler Facebook page. Events that you have signed up for will be followed up with a personal email directly to the participant.

December 4, 2019 – 1:00pmBeginner SnowshoeingBlueberry Ridge Warming Hut/Co Rd 553Introduction to snowshoeing. Beginners will be introduced to all aspects of snowshoeing, including different types of snowshoes, uses, techniques, dressing, hydration and nutrition, and trails. We will snowshoe a short course. For those experienced snowshoers, you are welcome to join us at 2:00 for the on snow session and take a longer trail.
December 11, 2019 – 5:00pmMoonlight Snowshoe and Christmas celebrationBlueberry Ridge Warming Hut/ Co. Rd 553We will snowshoe the lighted loop and have an Hors d’oeurve and Dessert potluck. Winter Snow Fun Holiday Parade/ Tree Lighting
December 6 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pmCelebrate the magic of the holiday season at the 9th Annual ‘Winter Snow Fun’ Holiday Parade and 45th Annual City of Marquette Tree Lighting. Bundle up with friends and family as illuminated floats, tinsel-strewn trucks and colorful carolers transform Third Street into a magical scene from the North Pole. After the parade, spectators are welcomed to the Marquette Commons where Santa Claus and friends will light up Downtown at the annual City of Marquette Tree Lighting. Festivities include a performance by the Marquette Senior High School Redmen Chorale, pony rides, and photos with Santa Claus.
We are looking for people to ride on our Community Services Sleigh or march with us! Please contact the Marquette Senior Center at 906-228-0456 to sign up.
Join the Marquette Community Services team on Monday, December 2nd from 3-5pm at the Marquette Arts and Culture Center, located in the lower level of Peter White Public Library, to create our float this year.
HOLIDAY LIGHT TOUROffered by the Center and the Marquette Board of Light &
Power Join us Monday evening, December 16th for our annual Holiday Light Bus Tour.
We’ll leave the Center at 6:30 pm and travel the streets of Marquette enjoying the beautiful lights and holiday
decorations, then return to the Center for Christmas treats.There is No Charge for the Holiday Light Tour, however,

• PLEASE REMEMBER: November 1st started the winter parking ban. Please remember to park on the SOUTH side of Spring Street until spring.
• Meals at the Center – Every other Tuesday you can join us for our congregate meals. You must register for the congregate meals by calling (906) 228-0456. A Caring for the Community topic will be presented once per month immediately following the meal. December: Join us for a fun day of cocoa and cookie decorating with Santa’s helpers!
• REMEMBER: Senior Skate is back! Join us for fun on the ice at the Lakeview Arena every Friday from 7:00pm – 8:30pm. See you there!
• Gail Maki and her ABC Fitness class will NOT be held on Wednesdays at the Lakeview Arena! Instead, look for Gail and her dynamic energy on Wednesdays in the Baraga Gym joining forces with Lynn, Diane and Sandy for High-Low Group Fitness (Formerly Paula’s Fitness)!

Senior Arts will be held twice a month from 1:00pm-3:00pm at the Arts & Culture Center located in the lower level of Peter White Public Library. Each month, a professional, local artist will lead the group on a new project! Senior Arts is funded by the Reynolds Foundation and the City of Marquette Senior Center. Non-City seniors - there will be a $5.00 per class charge to help cover the costs of supplies and instruction.
NOTE: Starting in January 2020, Senior Arts classes will be held on the first and third Wednesday of each month, instead of Tuesday. In the event of holidays, classes will be held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month.

SILVER SAMPLERThe Silver Sampler program is an outdoor recreation program for those 55 years of age and older who live within the service area of the Marquette Senior Center, the City of Marquette, Marquette Township, Chocolay Township and Powell Township. Our goal is to encourage folks to get out to play in the outdoors, and to build skills, confidence and connections for exploring the outdoors through safe and supported events.
Dates/locations/times are subject to change due to conditions and/or weather. We reserve the right to limit the number of participants for activities – please note our main mode of communication is via our Marquette Senior Center Website, Newsletters and Silver Sampler Facebook page. Events that you have signed up for will be followed up with a personal email directly to the participant.

Beginners will be introduced to all aspects of snowshoeing, including different types of snowshoes, uses, techniques, dressing, hydration and nutrition, and trails. We will snowshoe a short course. For those experienced snowshoers, you are welcome to join us at 2:00 for the on snow session and take a longer trail.

Winter Snow Fun Holiday Parade/ Tree Lighting
December 6 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pmCelebrate the magic of the holiday season at the 9th Annual ‘Winter Snow Fun’ Holiday Parade and 45th Annual City of Marquette Tree Lighting. Bundle up with friends and family as illuminated floats, tinsel-strewn trucks and colorful carolers transform Third Street into a magical scene from the North Pole. After the parade, spectators are welcomed to the Marquette Commons where Santa Claus and friends will light up Downtown at the annual City of Marquette Tree Lighting. Festivities include a performance by the Marquette Senior High School Redmen Chorale, pony rides, and photos with Santa Claus.
We are looking for people to ride on our Community Services Sleigh or march with us! Please contact the Marquette Senior Center at 906-228-0456 to sign up.
Join the Marquette Community Services team on Monday, December 2nd from 3-5pm at the Marquette Arts and Culture Center, located in the lower level of Peter White Public Library, to create our float this year.

Power Join us Monday evening, December 16th for our annual Holiday Light Bus Tour.
We’ll leave the Center at 6:30 pm and travel the streets of Marquette enjoying the beautiful lights and holiday

Ongoing ProgramsThe programs and services listed below are regularly scheduled at the Marquette Senior Center. We encourage you to take advantage of any or all of them. In accordance with all applicable State and Federal Laws – Marquette Senior Services does not discriminate in employment or the provisions of its services.* BLOOD PRESSURE – FRIDAY, DECEMBER 13TH, 11:00am – 12pm. Nurses from UP Home Health Care will be at the Center checking Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar. No appointments are necessary, donations are cheerfully accepted. * FOOT CLINIC – December’s Foot Clinic is almost full. We have limited appointments available. If you would like an appointment for December, don’t wait to call and schedule. December Foot Clinic will be held on Tuesday, December 3rd and half day Wednesday morning, December 4th. We have also added an additional day to our Foot Clinic offered by UP Home Health Care on Thursday, December 19 – from 9:00am - 12:00pm. There is a $25 fee for this service. Appointments are required and can be made by calling (906) 228-0456 today!* ABC’S FITNESS - Abs, Balance, Core & Strength! Join Instructor Gail Maki on Tuesday & Thursday at 8:45am in the Baraga Gym, and Mondays (8:45am start) and Fridays (9:15am start) in the Citizens Forum room inside the Lakeview arena. Remember: If Marquette Public Schools are closed there are no classes that day.* SENIOR FITNESS – Every Monday, Wednesday & Friday at 10:30am. This fitness class offers a low impact exercise at a pace everyone can handle. This
is an excellent group to get involved with – stop in and check it out.* TAI CHI - Tuesday & Thursday from 10:30am - 12:00pm in the Baraga Gym with instructor Maria Formolo. Tai Chi is a slow moving, core strengthening, great for your balance routine which uses gentle slow-moving motions.* HIGH - LOW GROUP FITNESS (formerly known as Paula’s Fitness) – Every Monday, Wednesday & Friday at 9:00am in the Baraga Gym. This is a higher-impact aerobics class involving a variety of cardio, floor and some weights. Join Paula, Lynn, Gail, Sandy & Diane as they alternate routines. Remember: If Marquette Public Schools are closed there are no classes that day.* MAHJONG – Is played every TUESDAY/THURSDAY afternoon @ 1:00pm. Come join the fun! Don’t know how to play? No problem, there is always someone willing to teach you! If you are new to this game, please call (906) 228-0456 to find out how to sign up for this event.* PINOCHLE – Join the Pinochle fun on Monday mornings beginning at 11:00am. Hope to see you there!* PICKLEBALL – We welcome back to the Baraga Gym our Pickleball Friends. We’ve got the nets, rackets and pickleballs. Mondays-Wednesdays-Fridays 10:15am-12:15pm for advanced and intermediate play and 12:15pm - 2:00pm for beginners, and Tuesday & Thursdays 12:00pm - 3:00 pm all skill levels.* SUPERIOR THEATRE EXPERIENCE – SENIOR THEATRE ACTING CLASS – Senior Acting is held twice a month with instructor Moire Embley at 2:00pm at the Marquette Arts and Culture Center located in the lower level of Peter White Public Library.
