Ongoing ProgramsThe programs and services listed below are regularly scheduled at the Marquette Senior Center. We encourage you to take advantage of any or all of them. You are required to make an appointment – so if you need that service please call the office for your appointment, (906) 228-0456. The Marquette Senior Center is supported by the City of Marquette, Marquette County Senior Millage, Office of Services to the Aging, Region II Area Agency on Aging and the generous donations of individuals and organizations in the community. In accordance with all applicable State and Federal Laws – Marquette Senior Services does not discriminate in employment or the provisions of its services.* BLOOD PRESSURE – FRIDAY, February 14TH, 11:00am-12:00pm. Nurses from UP Home Health Care will be at the Center checking Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar. No appointments are necessary, donations are cheerfully accepted.* FOOT CLINIC – FOOT CLINICS abound! We have several different choices for your tootsies! If you would like an appointment for February, don’t wait to call and schedule. Arcadia’s February’s Foot Clinic will be held all day Tuesday, February 4th and half day Wednesday, February 5th. We have also added an additional day to our Foot Clinic offered by UP Home Health Care on Thursday, February 20th – from 9:00am - 12:00pm. Join us for a third option for foot care offered by 906 Foot Care on Wednesday, February 26th from 9:00am – 12:00pm. There is a $25 fee for these services. Please remember to bring a basin to soak your feet and a towel to dry them! Appointments are required and can be made by calling (906) 228-0456 today! * ABC’S FITNESS - Abs, Balance, Core & Strength! Join Instructor Gail Maki on Tuesday and Thursday at 8:45am in the Baraga Gym, and Mondays (8:45am start) and Fridays (9:15am start) in the Citizens Forum room inside the Lakeview arena. Remember: If Marquette Public Schools are closed due to weather there are no classes that day.* SENIOR FITNESS – Every Monday, Wednesday & Friday at 10:30am. This fitness class offers a low
impact, chair exercise at a pace everyone can handle. Watch the video and get your arms and legs moving! This is an excellent group to get involved with – stop in and check it out.* TAI CHI - Join us Tuesday’s & Thursday’s from 10:30am - 12:00pm in the Baraga Gym with instructor Maria Formolo. Tai Chi is a slow moving, core strengthening, great for your balance routine which uses gentle slow-moving motions.* HIGH - LOW GROUP FITNESS - Every Monday, Wednesday & Friday at 9:00am in the Baraga Gym. This is a higher-impact aerobics class involving a variety of cardio, floor and some weights. Join Lynn, Gail, Sandy & Diane as they alternate routines. Remember: If Marquette Public Schools are closed due to weather there are no classes that day.* MAHJONG – Is played every Tuesday/Thursday afternoon at 1:00pm. Come join the fun! Don’t know how to play? No problem, there is always someone willing to teach you! If you are new to this game, please call (906) 228-0456 to find out how to sign up for this event.* PINOCHLE – Join the Pinochle fun on Monday mornings beginning at 11:00am. Hope to see you there!* PICKLEBALL – Head on over to the Baraga Gym for a great game of Pickleball. We’ve got the nets, paddles and pickleballs. Mondays-Wednesdays-Fridays 10:15am-12:15pm for advanced and intermediate play and 12:15pm - 2:00pm for beginners, and Tuesday & Thursdays 12:00pm - 3:00 pm all skill levels. There are instructors available to assist beginner players – no need to call, drop in and join the games!* SUPERIOR THEATRE EXPERIENCE – SENIOR THEATRE ACTING CLASS – Senior Acting is held twice a month with instructor Moire Embley at 2:00pm at the Marquette Arts and Culture Center located in the lower level of Peter White Public Library. This - n - That• YOU CAN HELP! If you are attending any of the fitness or activities in the Baraga Gym, please consider parking in the upper parking lot by the police department. Most of our Seniors that attend the downstairs Senior Center programs need the Spring Street parking due to ease of accessibility. We appreciate your cooperation during the winter months when parking is limited.
• REMEMBER: Senior Skate is back! Join us for fun on the ice at the Lakeview Arena every Friday from 7:00pm – 8:30pm. See you there!
• Don’t want your old games? How about donating your used board games to the Senior Center? Any and all donations are greatly appreciated.
• READY? SET! ACTION!! Want to go to the movie theater? Don’t have anyone to go with or don’t want to drive? Well, here is your opportunity! We’ve got the bus and we’ve got the tickets! We just need you to tell us you want to go the show. Monday, February 24th at 3:30pm we are going to head to Thomas Theater to see Dirty Dancing. You may want to bring a bit of cash for a snack or a beverage.
• BOWLING – February 3rd – 1pm – 3pm – Call 228-0456 to save your seat on the bus to go have some afternoon fun. There are aids at the bowling alley to assist you if you think you can’t throw the ball. Come on out and join in some laughs. Grab a friend and $5.00 for a fun and interesting event!
• CONGREGATE MEAL – We’ve switched things up this month for our congregate meal – we are moving it to Tuesday, February 25th because of the construction. Senior Arts will be held twice a month from 1:00pm-3:00pm at the Arts & Culture Center located in the lower level of Peter White Public Library. Each month, a professional, local artist will lead the group on a new project! Senior Arts is funded by the Reynolds Foundation and the City of Marquette Senior Center. Non-City seniors - there will be a $5.00 per class charge to help cover the costs of supplies and instruction.
NOTE: Starting in January 2020, Senior Arts classes will be held on the first and third Wednesday of each month, instead of Tuesday. In the event of holidays, classes will be held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month.

SILVER SAMPLERThe Silver Sampler program is an outdoor recreation program for those 55 years of age and older who live within the service area of the Marquette Senior Center, the City of Marquette, Marquette Township, Chocolay Township and Powell Township. Our goal is to encourage folks to get out to play in the outdoors, and to build skills, confidence and connections for exploring the outdoors through safe and supported events.Dates/locations/times are subject to change due to conditions and/or weather. We reserve the right to limit the number of participants for activities – please note our main mode of communication is via our Marquette Senior Center Website, Newsletters and Silver Sampler Facebook page. Events that you have signed up for will be followed up with a personal email directly to the participant.

!! CONSTRUCTION AHEAD !!The Senior Center is undergoing a facelift the week of February 17th – February 21st! The Center will
be closed on Monday, February 17th for President’s Day and the rest of the week will be closed to the public so we can give our center a much-needed paint job and minor construction. There will be
no interruption in any Baraga Gym programming, however, center activities will be canceled or
relocated to the Lakeview Arena Citizen’s Forum room. Before attending any activity, you may
want to call our Center at 228-0456 to confirm your activity! Please bear with us while we undergo our
new and exciting change!
An informal group opens to the public for caregivers and their loved ones to come together and share their experiences, ideas, socialize and learn. Anyone is welcome!!! The Marquette City Clerk’s Office and the Marquette Senior Center are hosting a forum in the lead-up to the 2020 March Presidential Primary Election. Citizens are encouraged to stop by the forum, where staff will be on-hand to assist in voter registration. Interested residents will also be able to receive and vote absentee ballots for the March Presidential Primary and can request to be added to the City of Marquette’s Permanent Absentee Voter List.
Please stop by if you have questions about the election process, or if you are simply looking for information on the 2020 Election Cycle, which will include elections in March, August and November.

Senior Nutrition Program meals are provided by Community Action Alger Marquette for persons 60 or older & their spouses. Your Senior Nutrition Council recommends a donation of $3.50 per meal, which is applied to the purchase of food and its preparation. Guests under 60 pay $6.50. The Senior Nutrition Program is provided through OSA, UPCAP/AAA, and funding from the State of Michigan, the Older Americans Act, local donations and complies with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. PLEASE NOTE: This is the menu for the overall Senior Nutrition Program. It is subject to change at the individual sites due to several factors including availability of specific food items, inventory and cook’s discretion. Although you may experience some changes from this menu, always rest assured that each meal meets one third of your daily nutritional requirements and we make every effort to provide you with a variety of well-balanced, appealing and tasty meals.

This - n - That• YOU CAN HELP! If you are attending any of the fitness or activities in the Baraga Gym, please consider parking in the upper parking lot by the police department. Most of our Seniors that attend the downstairs Senior Center programs need the Spring Street parking due to ease of accessibility. We appreciate your cooperation during the winter months when parking is limited.
• REMEMBER: Senior Skate is back! Join us for fun on the ice at the Lakeview Arena every Friday from 7:00pm – 8:30pm. See you there!
• Don’t want your old games? How about donating your used board games to the Senior Center? Any and all donations are greatly appreciated.
• READY? SET! ACTION!! Want to go to the movie theater? Don’t have anyone to go with or don’t want to drive? Well, here is your opportunity! We’ve got the bus and we’ve got the tickets! We just need you to tell us you want to go the show. Monday, February 24th at 3:30pm we are going to head to Thomas Theater to see Dirty Dancing. You may want to bring a bit of cash for a snack or a beverage.
• BOWLING – February 3rd – 1pm – 3pm – Call 228-0456 to save your seat on the bus to go have some afternoon fun. There are aids at the bowling alley to assist you if you think you can’t throw the ball. Come on out and join in some laughs. Grab a friend and $5.00 for a fun and interesting event!
• CONGREGATE MEAL – We’ve switched things up this month for our congregate meal – we are moving it to Tuesday, February 25th because of the construction. Senior Arts will be held twice a month from 1:00pm-3:00pm at the Arts & Culture Center located in the lower level of Peter White Public Library. Each month, a professional, local artist will lead the group on a new project! Senior Arts is funded by the Reynolds Foundation and the City of Marquette Senior Center. Non-City seniors - there will be a $5.00 per class charge to help cover the costs of supplies and instruction.
NOTE: Starting in January 2020, Senior Arts classes will be held on the first and third Wednesday of each month, instead of Tuesday. In the event of holidays, classes will be held on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month.

SILVER SAMPLERThe Silver Sampler program is an outdoor recreation program for those 55 years of age and older who live within the service area of the Marquette Senior Center, the City of Marquette, Marquette Township, Chocolay Township and Powell Township. Our goal is to encourage folks to get out to play in the outdoors, and to build skills, confidence and connections for exploring the outdoors through safe and supported events.Dates/locations/times are subject to change due to conditions and/or weather. We reserve the right to limit the number of participants for activities – please note our main mode of communication is via our Marquette Senior Center Website, Newsletters and Silver Sampler Facebook page. !! CONSTRUCTION AHEAD !!The Senior Center is undergoing a facelift the week of February 17th – February 21st! The Center will
be closed on Monday, February 17th for President’s Day and the rest of the week will be closed to the public so we can give our center a much-needed paint job and minor construction. There will be
no interruption in any Baraga Gym programming, however, center activities will be canceled or
relocated to the Lakeview Arena Citizen’s Forum room. Before attending any activity, you may

The Marquette City Clerk’s Office and the Marquette Senior Center are hosting a forum in the lead-up to the 2020 March Presidential Primary Election. Citizens are encouraged to stop by the forum, where staff will be on-hand to assist in voter registration. Interested residents will also be able to receive and vote absentee ballots for the March Presidential Primary and can request to be added to the City of Marquette’s Permanent Absentee Voter List.
Please stop by if you have questions about the election process, or if you are simply looking for information on the 2020 Election Cycle, which will include elections in March, August and November.

Nurses from UP Home Health Care will be at the Center checking Blood Pressure and Blood Sugar. No appointments are necessary, donations are cheerfully accepted.* FOOT CLINIC – FOOT CLINICS abound! We have several different choices for your tootsies! If you would like an appointment for February, don’t wait to call and schedule. Arcadia’s February’s Foot Clinic will be held all day Tuesday, February 4th and half day Wednesday, February 5th. We have also added an additional day to our Foot Clinic offered by UP Home Health Care on Thursday, February 20th – from 9:00am - 12:00pm. Join us for a third option for foot care offered by 906 Foot Care on Wednesday, February 26th from 9:00am – 12:00pm. There is a $25 fee for these services. Please remember to bring a basin to soak your feet and a towel to dry them! Appointments are required and can be made by calling (906) 228-0456 today! * ABC’S FITNESS - Abs, Balance, Core & Strength! Join Instructor Gail Maki on Tuesday and Thursday at 8:45am in the Baraga Gym, and Mondays (8:45am start) and Fridays (9:15am start) in the Citizens Forum room inside the Lakeview arena. Remember: If Marquette Public Schools are closed due to weather there are no classes that day.* SENIOR FITNESS – Every Monday, Wednesday & Friday at 10:30am. This fitness class offers a low
impact, chair exercise at a pace everyone can handle. Watch the video and get your arms and legs moving! This is an excellent group to get involved with – stop in and check it out.* TAI CHI - Join us Tuesday’s & Thursday’s from 10:30am - 12:00pm in the Baraga Gym with instructor Maria Formolo. Tai Chi is a slow moving, core strengthening, great for your balance routine which uses gentle slow-moving motions.* HIGH - LOW GROUP FITNESS - Every Monday, Wednesday & Friday at 9:00am in the Baraga Gym. This is a higher-impact aerobics class involving a variety of cardio, floor and some weights. Join Lynn, Gail, Sandy & Diane as they alternate routines. Remember: If Marquette Public Schools are closed due to weather there are no classes that day.* MAHJONG – Is played every Tuesday/Thursday afternoon at 1:00pm. Come join the fun! Don’t know how to play? No problem, there is always someone willing to teach you! If you are new to this game, please call (906) 228-0456 to find out how to sign up for this event.* PINOCHLE – Join the Pinochle fun on Monday mornings beginning at 11:00am. Hope to see you there!* PICKLEBALL – Head on over to the Baraga Gym for a great game of Pickleball. We’ve got the nets, paddles and pickleballs. Mondays-Wednesdays-Fridays 10:15am-12:15pm for advanced and intermediate play and 12:15pm - 2:00pm for beginners, and Tuesday & Thursdays 12:00pm - 3:00 pm all skill levels. There are instructors available to assist beginner players – no need to call, drop in and join the games!* SUPERIOR THEATRE EXPERIENCE – SENIOR THEATRE ACTING CLASS – Senior Acting is held twice a month with instructor Moire Embley at 2:00pm at the Marquette Arts and Culture Center located in the lower level of Peter White Public Library.
