9:00 am – Noon: “Technology! The Beginner’s Guide to Using Technology in the Classroom” 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm: “How Do You Pronounce That? Technology is changing and improving, we as ASL instructors need to keep up with what is out there and what we can use in the classroom. It is not always clear what to use and how to use technology that is available in our visual language classrooms to improve the learning environment for students. The participants shall: 1. Learn about the various types of technology that can be used to teach ASL. 2. Using a laptop or phone, participants will have hands on practice on how to use each technology presented. 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm: This activity will cover how to incorporate ASL mouth morphemes in the classroom. Students do not always know how to incorporate the mouth morphemes properly, know the meanings for these morphemes, and when to use them. This workshop will review the purpose and when mouth morphemes are used and the purpose in ASL. Demonstration and practice will be incorporated in this session. The Presenter: Dr. Rhonda Jennings-Arey has twenty years of teaching experience at the K-12 level and numerous post-secondary programs. Dr. Jennings-Arey has degrees in Deaf Education, Sign Language Education, Literacy Specialization, and Administration and Supervision. She recently obtained her doctorate degree in Post-Secondary and Adult Education. Dr. Jennings-Arey is a National Board Certified teacher in adolescent and young adult language arts. She was the co-founder of Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind ASL/English Bilingual Education Training program. She has an ASLTA certification at the qualified level and endorsement in ASL instruction through the state of Virginia. Dr. Jennings-Arey is certified by RID as a Certified Deaf Interpreter. She lives in Louisville, KY where she works full time as an ASL instructor at the University of Louisville and is a freelance interpreter. Questions?
