in 1961 in Bhutan, recognized as the mind emanation of one of the greatest

Dzogchenmastersof thehis time

The Khyentse lineage, starting with the

great Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo, has

alwaysbeencharacterizedby thevisionof

non

sectarianism.

Reflecting

this

tradition,

H.E.DzongsarKhyentseRinpoche studied

with teachers from all the four schools of

Tibetan Buddhism. Rinpoche received

empowerments and teachings from many

of the greatest contemporary masters,

includingH.H.theDalaiLama,H.H.the16thKarmapa,H.H.SakyaTrizin,andhisown

grandfathers,H.H.DudjomRinpocheandSnamZangpo.HismainguruwasH.H.Dilgo

KhyentseRinpoche.Rinpochefurtherstudiedwithmorethan25greatlamasfromallfour

schoolsofTibetanBuddhism.

Whilestillateenager,Rinpochewasresponsibleforpublishingmanyraretextsthatwere

in danger ofbeing lost entirely, and in the 1980s,began the restoration of Dzongsar

MonasteryinTibet.

HehasestablishedseveralcollegesandretreatcentresinIndia(inBirandChauntra)and

inBhutan.Inaccordancewiththewishesofhisteachers,Rinpochehastraveledandtaught

throughouttheworld,establishingdharmacentres inAustralia,Europe,NorthAmerica,

andAsia.

In 1989, H.E. Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche founded Siddharthas Intent, a worldwide

association of buddhist centers, whose principal intention is preserving the Buddhist

teachingsaswellasdeepening theunderstandingandawarenessof themanyaspectsof

theBuddhistteachingsacrossdifferentculturesandtraditions.

In 2001, Rinpoche also founded the Khyentse Foundation, a nonprofit organization

aiming tofunctionas asystemofpatronagefor institutionsand individualsengaged in

thepracticeandstudyofBuddhaswisdomandcompassion.

RinpochealsofoundedLotusOutreach,anonprofitorganizationdedicatedtoensuring

the education, health and safety of vulnerable women and children in the developing

world. Originally established to support refugee education, Lotus Outreach now also

helpsrehabilitatesurvivorsofhumantraffickingandkeepatriskstudentsinschool.

Rinpoche

is

also

the

director

of

Deer

Park,

centres

of

Art

and

ContemplationinBhutanandIndia,oftheWorldPeaceVaseProgram,amajorworld

wideinitiativeofHisHolinessDilgoKhyentseRinpoche,andoftheSiddharthaSchool

inAustralia.

In2008,RinpochefoundedtheManjughoshaEdition,basedinBerlin/Germanytopublish

rareandpreciousBuddhisttextsondemand.

DzongsarKhyentseRinpocheisalsoafilmmaker,andhistwomajorfilmsareTheCup

(1999)andTravellersandMagicians(2003).HeisalsotheauthorofthebookWhat

MakesYouNotaBuddhist(Shambhala,2007).
