RANCHO SANTA FE GARDEN CLUB SEPTEMBER 2016
RANCHO SANTA FE GARDEN CLUB NEWS
President’s Message As the new president, I would like to tell you a little about myself. Before I do so, I want to thank Fred Wasserman for his past service to the Garden Club. You are probably aware that because of his many talents and skills, Fred was recently elected President of the RSF Homeowners Association. That's a very big and time-consuming job. He no longer golfs as often. Fred will continue to serve on the Garden Club Board, but has resigned as its President at the May 2016 board meeting. I want to recognize the accomplishments of Fred Wasserman at the Garden Club. I'll just name 2. The first was the sale of the Garden Club Building. This was a contentious issue in RSF, but Fred negotiated the sale professionally and reached a good deal for the Garden Club and the community. Secondly, two years ago he led the Garden Club in a new direction with our Grants Program. The Garden Club gives grants to local organi-zations to support their horticultural programs. Many of the recipients discussed their activities at our last Garden Club meeting. We thank Fred for his many years of service to the Garden Club. Likewise his wife, Pam, has been the Secretary of the Garden Club and continues to do a fantastic job taking care of the accounting, taxes, and minutes of meetings. My name is Phil Larsen. I grew up in Chicago and worked for a Chicago manufacturer for many years in Chicago, Paris, and London. My job included extensive travel throughout Europe and South America. My wife, Jane, and I have three adult children and 5 grandchildren. After my retirement 7 years ago, we moved to California and have lived in the Ranch for 4 years.
The Thanksgiving holiday is still a couple months away, but I'll be early in thanking 3 individuals for their service. Erin Browne, our executive director, has really been busy coor-dinating all our activities including the Resale Shoppe. I've been particularly impressed by her marketing efforts to promote the Garden Club activities. Almost every week in the local papers, you'll find news items and a new Garden Club column written by Erin. At the Annual Meeting in May, we elected two new members for our board. They are An-nterese Toth and Julie Monroe. These new board members have hit the ground running and have been great support-ers of all our activities. We are quite impressed by their hard work and dedication and we thank them for it. Co Presidents, Phil Larsen

The Resale Shoppe has been busy! As always, the key to our success is
your donation for it doesn't matter how many customers we have if we don't
have great items to sell. The donations to the Shoppe these last few months
have been absolutely FABULOUS! Thank you so much for donating your
items to our store.
If you know anyone moving in or out of the area, please tell them we'd love any items that
don't fit into their new home. Whatever we can't use is donated to the Disabled American Vet-
eran’s organization, so nothing goes to waste.
VOLUNTEERS are needed to open the shop more hours! If you are interested in working with
a in a fun atmosphere with a great group of people, please consider donating your time to the

In September, the Garden Club held the 2nd Annual RSF Garden Fair & Market. It was a wonderful commu-
nity event with over 400 people in attendance. This horticulture celebration included landscape and irrigation
specialists, a fairy garden corner, and organic produce stand. Thank you to the sponsors and vendors who
helped make this day possible, and to our committee and volunteers who worked the event that day!
