The HSIE faculty did a wonderful job in bringing the NAMBUS to our school last week. Feedback from students has been very positive with many moved by the stories of our Vietnam Veterans. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to engage in real world connections and learning. This week we celebrate SASS week where we acknowledge the hard work of all our support staff. These staff members support teachers in their teachers and students in their learning. We thank them for all the support they provide the school. This term has been particularly busy as we move to a new financial system. Thank you to all our families for your patience as we get use to this new state wide system. Moving into 2018 and into a new school planning cycle which will run until 2020 we will see a continued focus on teaching, learning and leading. In terms of teaching and learning as a school we are driving towards future focused learning. This will begin with Year 9 in 2018 being part of a new project based learning initiative. Parents had an opportunity to hear about project based learning from Mr White last week. Our Year 8 students have been involved in the selection of the project areas are excited about this new opportunity. At our whole school assembly this week we celebrate our silver award winners, induct our 2018 Year 12 leadership team and farewell Year 12 and our current leadership team. On behalf of Mr Mitchell and the staff I would like to thank our school captains Lauren Cislowski and Derrick Luvuhze and our vice captains Emily Backhouse and Johnny Mitchell for all their hard work and leadership throughout the last 12 months. They have been supported by our prefects Agata Piaskowska, Monique Pearce, Prerna Kumar, Laura Moore, Adam Bashfield and Lauren Phillips who have also done a fantastic job. Principal’s ReportWhilst Mr Mitchell is taking some much deserved Long Serviceleave until the end of the term we are continuing with manygreat programs and events. SupportIn English students have been studying a variety of differenttext types such as narratives (James and the Giant Peach),Shakespearean classics presented through Modern dayfilm,(10 Things I Hate About You) as well as news, magazinesand advertising.

The focus for this term has been to help students work onthe comprehension strategies of making predictions, makingconnections and Visualisation.

In recent weeks the Support Unit students have beendeveloping their team building skills with the ongoingmaintenance of the Courtyard garden. The garden alsoprovides an opportunity for students to enhance Mount AnnanHigh School with a greener environment.

A number of our students are participating in the EXCEL WorkExperience Program this term. Brooke Fiektau and CodyDelaney (Spotlight, Campbelltown), Kyle Johnson( Mt AnnanSustainable Living), Michael Snook and Joshua Anderson(AFFORDS, Ingleburn). All students are working well andenjoying this valuable experience.

Courtney Burgess and Liam Heffernan have illustrated a highlevel of commitment and dedication to their individual workexperience programs in Year 11.

In Science our Year 9 and 10 students are studying the HumanBody and the various diseases and lifestyle factors that canmake us sick. Students have thoroughly enjoyed researchingthe diseases they are interested in. These include diseases inmovies like Scarlett fever from Osmosis Jones among others.

In Year 7 students are looking at the stars in our Solar Systemunit. Students are learning about the different and interestingobjects moving throughout our solar system such as planets,asteroids and moons. Year 8 has nearly completed their uniton chemistry at home. This involves students developing anunderstanding of how chemistry is used at home and in theireveryday lives.

Students enjoyed a fun filled day at Fast Lane Go Karting Mintoin Week 5. The level of concentration and the thrill of racingaround the track to be first was enjoyed by all. More excursionsare planned in Term 4.

PDHPEIn PDHPE, students have been learning about a variety ofhealth issues across Years 7-10 such as relationships, drugeducation and healthy choices. In practical lessons, they havebeen participating in striking and fielding games such assoftball, invasion games such as netball and oztag and ourelective classes have been trying their hand at golf.

Crossroads - Year 11

All Year 11 students will be participating in a Crossroadsprogram during the last week of this term (Term 3) fromTuesday 19/9/2017 to Friday 22/9/2017. On the Friday, theywill participate

Crossroads is a 25 hour Stage 6 course which extends andbuilds upon the learning experiences of students in 7-10PDHPE. It is mandatory for all Government school students inYear 11 and/or 12. The course content is divided into two focusareas:

Year 11 are not required to wear school uniform during the 4days, but will need to abide by Health and Safety requirements.Students are NOT to wear THONGS, revealing clothing orinappropriate slogans and they will be required to wear joggerson Thursday 21/09/17, as they will be participating in leadershipgames and challenge activities.

SPORT

During Term 2, we had many talented athletes representMacarthur Zone at the Sydney South West AthleticsChampionships. All students who participated performed welland represented our school with pride. Some of the followingstudents will be representing Mount Annan High School at theCHS State Athletics Championships during Week 8.

SRCThe Student Representative Council have been very busy thisterm, attending many school events and excursions. Ourfundraiser Jeans for Genes day raised over $600.

Year 11 Representatives Cameron Biggs and Abbey Croftattended the Treasurer’s breakfast at Harrington Park CountryClub. They were fine school ambassadors.

The students are also involved in Footy Colours Day on duringSeptember. The SRC students have also been working at theP&C markets and helping manage the BBQ. I would like toacknowledge the following students.

We also interviewed and heard speeches from our students forour leadership positions for 2018. I would like to congratulate allYear 11 student’s on their efforts.

I would like to also wish our senior SRC members well in theirHSC examinations and thank them for all their hard work duringthe year.

AdministrationTerm 3 is a very busy and productive term, even more sorecently with our change of system. We would like to thankall our families for their patience and support during thischallenging and ongoing process and we will keep you updatedwith any changes that may occur.

This term also sees the final chapter for our Year 12 student’sbefore sitting the HSC and we would like to congratulate themon reaching the end of their formal schooling and wish them allthe best for the upcoming HSC exams in term 4.

We have recently posted home, statements of account for ourYear 12 students, asking to finalise payments of school fees bythe end of this term. This will assist with our Year 12 end ofschooling procedures helping to make it a smooth transition.

If parents have any queries or difficulties with these payments,please do not hesitate to contact the school’s Admin Manager,Margaret Burns who will endeavour to assist you.

Year 7 to 11 accounts have also been recently posted home ifyou are able to make payment toward this, it would be greatlyappreciated. The most convenient form of payment would bevia our website using the POP payment.

Wooglemai Year 7 & 9 Peer SupportOn the 16th August 110 Year7 Students and Year 9 PeerSupport Leaders attended a Team Building day at Wooglemai.

Year 7 were split up into 11 groups and each group hadthe opportunity to participate in 11 activities run by Year 9Peer Support Leaders. This required Year 7 students to worktogether as a team as well as experiment with different problemsolving strategies. Each group was awarded points for eachactivity as well as bonus points for team building.

Congratulations to all Year 9 Peer Support Leaders for doingsuch an amazing job and to Wooglemai Staff for having us forthe day.
