Dear distinguished experts in drive technology!

As promised, the international Electric Drives Production Conference (E|DPC) tenders you the unique chance to visit the multifarious and globally leading manufacturing plants of electric motors in the North Bavarian region. Accordingly, last year we were proud to show you the BROSE factory in Würzburg where on highly automated assembly lines millions of actuators are produced for the global automotive market. This year, you will have the chance to gain a deep insight into two alternative leadplants for highly-flexible electric motor pro-duction for industrial applications at Bosch Rexroth in Lohr a. M. and at Siemens in Bad Neustadt/ Saale. Both sites are remarkable high-tech front-runners in the application and at the same time as automation vendors of Industry 4.0 technologies. The only drop of bitterness is that you have to choose one excursion.

As foreseen by Lars Thomson in his keynote speech at the E|DPC in 2014 and as suspected by many backward-oriented automobilists with gasoline in blood, electro-mobility has reached its tipping point and in 2018 prob-ably already one million electric cars will be produced. In parallel all traditional automotive suppliers which who have not adjusted their strategy towards a clear e-mobility focus have lost in average almost 50 % of their market capitalization in 2018 only. Thus, the competence in electric motor production is gaining crucial importance. The progress in performance, productivity, and benefit for the customer which automotive in-dustry will achieve vigorously will push all other branches in which electric motors are used. Innovation and accelerated improvement will be key for all electric motor manufacturers.

As required mandatorily, the E|DPC presents the latest findings in materials, productions processes, machines, and concepts for electric drives. With a new record, about sixty profound and inspiring technical papers pre-sented by both experienced industrial experts and innovative scientist will offer an ideal platform for the ex-change of knowledge and the fostering of your personal network in this emerging technical field. Additionally, 19 exhibitors show their cutting-edge technologies in the foyer to discuss your individual requirements and adapt your needs.

As expected, the E|DPC endures the unique place for the exchange of technical and informal experiences and for tying your personal network in the electric drives production industry. With your support, the E|DPC devel-oped over the last eight years towards the most recognized convention in this emerging field.

I am looking forward to meeting you at the E|DPC 2018 in Schweinfurt

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Franke

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

the advantages of electric drives are obvious – and so is their development potential. This is why a discussion regarding the prospects for electric mobility is particularly important as it can lead to solutions if it is orien-tated on the possibilities of technology and remains free of ideological influences.

Electric mobility has long established itself in track-guided transport systems. In these systems, energy can be supplied whilst the vehicle is in motion. In contrast, electrically powered cars and motorcycles, buses and trucks depend on a mobile energy storage system. This is the only reason why they are not always able to compete with combustion engine powered vehicles on longer journeys outside conurbations.

Changing this situation is a challenge that Bavaria is happy to take on. Electric mobility and the associated battery technology are of paramount importance for Bavaria as a business location. We have therefore found-ed the Bavarian Centre for Battery Technology at the University of Bayreuth. Electric drives and above all elec-tric mobility are the topics of the future.

I wish you all a successful and interesting conference in Schweinfurt!

Dr. Markus SöderBavarian Minister-President

5

Dear visitors, exhibitors and guests,

due to increasing mobility, progressive automation and the reduction of CO2, powerful electric drives are becoming more and more important. The 8th International Electric Drives Production Conference is the perfect platform for developers, researchers and potential users to share experiences and ideas. The focus of this year’s conference is the presentation of highly innovative products from various industries as well as manu-facturing processes and strategies.

I’m very pleased that Schweinfurt is the venue fort of the 8th International Electric Drives Production Confer-ence. Schweinfurt is a traditional and innovative city of industry and art and therefore it sets the perfect scene for this conference. As mayor of this city, I warmly welcome you to Schweinfurt!

At the beginning of the 20th century, the city’s economic structure was shaped by the creative energy of in-ventors, engineers and industrialists. The companies they set up are involved in the manufacture and sale of bearings, machine tools, automotive parts and automotive accessories worldwide. In the past decades, new high-tech companies have settled in our city.

We are also very well positioned in the field of electric drives in Schweinfurt. In 2016, ZF Friedrichshafen AG chose Schweinfurt as its headquarter for electromobility. The company is currently in the process of building a large-scale production for electric tractions drives. This means that the first pure electric drive is developed in Schweinfurt! Other companies, such as Schaeffler and SKF, are also working on the production of electric drives. The high professional qualification of the staff in Schweinfurt is the result of a close network of edu-cational institutions: a high-quality public school system with technical and trade schools, an outstanding university of applied sciences. At this university, the topic of electric drives has a high priority. In this field, the following degree programs are offered: Bachelor of Electrical and Information Technology as well as Bachelor of Mechatronics and Master of Engineering and Information Technology.

Parallel to Schweinfurt’s robust industrial technology development, the city has also experienced a renais-sance of arts in the past decades. Get to know our excellent cultural centers, museums, concerts, art festivals and theater plays!

For the varied offer I would like to thank all responsible persons and organizers of the 8th International Electric Drives Production Conference. I wish you a successful trade fair and informative hours with lots of new ideas.

Your

Sebastian RemeléLord Mayor of the City Schweinfurt
