Welcome to Central Otago and the Alexandra Rugby Club. The Alexandra Rugby Club is situated at the picturesque Molyneux Park often described as one of the best grounds in to play sports in, in Otago. The sports venue is used for rugby and Soccer in the winter and cricket in the summer and hosts a number of first class games for Otago Cricket.The Alexandra Rugby Club was established in 1890 and celebrated its 125th Jubilee this year with over 300 past and present club members attending the function over Anzac weekend. The club has one premier team and has around 160 primary school kids in various age group teams.This year the premier team won the Central Otago premier competition for the first time in 21 years and was also the Speight’s Challenge cup holders for the firsts round. Not bad for a team that finished last the year before. We hope you enjoy your time in Alexandra and enjoy playing the game we all love. Shane RyanPresident Alexandra Rugby Club.

Welcome to the Wakatipu Rugby Club.

The club was formed in 1953 bringing together all the small clubs in the Wakatipu basin. We are affiliated to the Otago Rugby Football Union and play in the Central Otago rugby competition. We are one of only two clubs in Central Otago that currently fields two senior teams, the Wanderers and the Premiers. We are strong supporters of the Wakatipu High School Rugby and their three teams. We have very strong junior numbers in the Wakatipu Rugby Club with over 160 kids playing in the Central Otago competition.The Wakatipu Rugby Club is very fortunate to have our home ground in the middle of Queenstown - the Adventure Capital of the World!!The club wishes all supporters and players an enjoyable and fun-filled stay in Queenstown for the 2015 World Vintage Rugby Carnival.

Sunday 15th November• Teams and supporters arrive and settle into

accommodation.• 1.45pm: Team managers gather at Rydges

Hotel for the Carnival Briefing in the Clancy Room commencing at 2.00pm.

• 2.45pm: Referees meeting in the same room straight after Team Managers meeting.

• 4.20pm: Teams and their supporters meet at the Skyline Gondola Queenstown, for a gondola ride up to the Carnival Opening Function where breath-taking views, food, drink and entertainment will be provided.

Monday 16th November• Transferred to the Queenstown Events

Centre to commence our 1st round of matches (hospitality, food and beverages available for purchase in the club rooms).

• Evening free to sample the eateries of the Queenstown region.

Tuesday 17th November• Day at leisure to enjoy various activities

in the Queenstown Lakes region; golf, sightseeing, shopping, wine tasting or adventure activities.

Wednesday 18th November• Transferred to the Alexandra Rugby Club,

where the 2nd round of matches will be played. Hospitality, food and beverages available for purchase at the grounds.

Thursday 19th November• Another day at leisure with a variety of

activities including the Vintage Rugby Big Day Out (TSS Earnslaw Cruise and BBQ Lunch).

Friday 20th November• Transferred to the Queenstown Events

Centre for our final round of matches. • Evening free to explore Queenstown.

Saturday 21st November• Day at leisure to explore Queenstown.• Transferred to Queenstown Events Centre

for the Festival Finale dinner and awards. A three course meal, drinks and entertainment will be provided.

Sunday 22nd November• Teams depart for home or further travel.

The TSS Earnslaw cruise and BBQ Lunch is a quintessential Kiwi experience - a great day out for teams who wish to experience Queenstown’s scenery and great food!The Big Day Out begins at Steamer Wharf,

Carnival Charity Cure Kids

Cure Kids funds research into a wide range of childhood illnesses including still birth, leukemia, rheumatic heart disease, asthma and inherited heart conditions, among many others. Since its inception in 1971 (was Child Health Research Foundation), Cure Kids has invested more than $37 million in research, which has resulted in breakthroughs that have saved, improved and extended the lives of children throughout the world.

Some of the many achievements and breakthroughs achieved through Cure Kids funded research include;

• Supporting the discovery of a way to diagnose cystic fibrosis(cf) in new-born babies by using the heel prick test. Earlier diagnosis has meant that effective treatments can be started earlier, improving and extending lives of children living with cf.

• Supporting the ‘Back to Sleep’ campaign, that has reduced the rate from cot death from 260 a year at its peak to less than 50.

• We have also recently funded research which has discovered a way to grow skin in a lab from the size of a postage stamp to over a metre, reducing scarring in burns victims by more than 30%.

Cure Kids are proud to be the recipient charity of the 2015 World Vintage Rugby Carnival and wish all teams the very best for the tournament.

Rugby CarnivalThe emphasis at Vintage Rugby Carnival’s is on enjoyment (on and off the field). Although participants, whose ages will vary from 35 to 80+, can ‘compete’ at the level they wish to play.

Regardless of the level of rugby a team wants to play it is important to remember that teams attending a Vintage Rugby Carnival come to play in a friendly environment where the outcome is enjoyed by all regardless of the result. Accordingly, aggressive and unsportsmanlike behaviour on or off the field is not acceptable.

Some of the laws of the game have been modified to ensure participants can have fun without causing unnecessary health risks or injury.

The basic laws of Rugby as prescribed by the International Rugby Board (IRB) apply to Vintage Rugby games with the following variations: 1. All 8 forwards must remain bound in the

scrum until the ball has been cleared. #2. The scrum half (number 9) must not follow

the other scrum half around the scrum.#3. There must be no pressure scrummaging.

#4. There shall be no striking against the head

by the hookers. #5. Kicking is confined to inside the 22.6. In line-outs all 8 forwards must take part. #7. Teams lucky enough to score a try shall

restart the game by kicking the ball to the non-scoring side.

8. Unlimited substitution is allowed and players who are ‘subbed’ may return to the game at any time.

9. Players must observe the offside rule, particularly that of remaining behind the hindmost foot rule at rucks, mauls and scrums. Backs should be 10 metres behind scrums (attacking side only) and both teams should be back 10 metres from lineouts.

10. In a tackle situation, where a player in possession has gone to ground, the attacking team retains possession. No defensive player is to contest possession.

However, if both team captains agree prior to the game, normal rules/laws of rugby shall apply around the ruck, maul and tackle area.

11. There is no limitation on how far a player can run with the ball in hand unless both captains agree, prior to the game commencing, to a limitation of 25 metres. (See special laws/rules for players wearing coloured vests).

12. Tries will not be converted.13. The games usually consist of three x 20

minute spells.14. No over vigorous play.15. No lifting in lineouts.16. No charging at opponents with shoulder.17. Older players (65 and above) should not be

tackled and must be treated with respect. These players are identified by a bright red vest. Younger players who are physically challenged or don’t want to be tackled can also decide to wear this vest (see special laws).

# – Law can be waived if both captains and the referee agree to before the game.Special Laws for the Coloured Bibs• Any player with the ball (wearing a brightly

coloured bib to be supplied by the Carnival organizers) cannot be tackled but can be stopped from forward motion by being firmly held. In other words, he can be held (or “hugged”) but not tackled.

• Players CANNOT under any circumstances be tackled to the ground.

• Players must release the ball upon being held or after traveling 25 metres.

• Players wearing these bibs are either older players or physically challenged younger players.

• Whether they are respected elders or physically challenged it is important that they not abuse their status as Gentlemen of the Game.

• All players wearing brightly coloured bibs MUST adhere to the above laws.

NOTE: The bibs should be worn prior to the game (during warm up) and pointed out by the respective captains to the referee during the coin toss.Both captains and the referee must meet prior to the game to agree on the laws the game will be played to.
