Looking for Vacation Care?

PSSA News and Results No PSSA today due to wet weather.

NAPLAN Online parent info NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy – important skills that each child needs to succeed in school and life. The NAPLAN tests are designed to help us make sure students are on track with their literacy and numeracy development. Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in NAPLAN tests for reading, writing, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.

On Monday 25th March Year 5 students and Tuesday 26th March Year 3 students at our school will participate in NAPLAN Online. Students do not need to be computer experts to take the NAPLAN test online. Making sure students have computer skills is part of our school curriculum, and our teachers will ensure your child is familiar with the online format. To see the types of questions and interactive features of NAPLAN Online, visit the public demonstration site.

If you have any questions about NAPLAN Online, please contact your child’s teacher. For more info please click on the following links:

• How to support your child during NAPLAN (information for parents and carers) • Watch a video that explains NAPLAN Online • Subscribe to ACARA’s monthly parent newsletter, Parent Update

Harmony and Grandparents Day

Easter Eggs needed! Our Easter Hat Parade will be held on Thursday 11 April. A great tradition is our raffle of many different Easter basket which raises funds for the P&C.

We would be grateful for all donations of Easter Eggs to be dropped in to the office. Baskets would also be welcome! Thank you for your kind contribution.

Thank you to everyone for making Harmony Day and Grandparents Day such an amazing success. It was wonderful to welcome so many Grandparents and Carers to our school. The children loved having you. Children also enjoyed Harmony Day wearing bright orange colours and participating in activities with their Buddy classes.

Don’t forget to Book Your Time! As advised in last week’s newsletter, the Parent Teacher Interviews are almost upon us. Interviews will be held in Week 11 in the week beginning 8 April. Most interviews will be held on Tuesday 9 April although some classes will have additional times in that week.

Interviews can be booked by going to www.schoolinterviews.com.au and select “Make a

booking”. You then enter the code xs2a6 and click GO. You will then select your child’s

class and see the available times from your class teacher.

Bookings for Parent Teacher interviews are OPEN NOW and will close at 4pm on Friday 5 April. Please refer to the information sent home for further details or don’t hesitate to contact the office for help.

From one of our visiting Grandparents:

"There are so many cultures in this school. It’s so nice to see this many different cultures come together and see the children getting along. They don't know what is happening in the world and it warms my heart to see them working together and being kind to each other despite what is happening in the world today."

It’s time to colour-in! Attached to this newsletter is our famous Colouring-in Competition provided by our Educational Partners – Century 21 Southern Realty. Just do your best colouring-in effort and you could be in the running to win a family pass to the Sydney Royal Easter Show! Plus there is chocolates and a $100 Westfield voucher to win.

So sharpen your pencils and get colouring! Don’t forget entries need to be delivered to Century 21 in Wolli Creek by Tuesday 9 April.

CAKES needed for Election Day We are very grateful for all those people who’ve offered to bring cake donations to the staff room this afternoon – but we need more. Please bring your cake this afternoon, or to the cake stall under the COLA tomorrow before 12noon.

…and please come and buy cake tomorrow! Don’t forget you can make voting even sweeter by buying cake from our stall tomorrow between 10am – 2.00pm.

Helpers on the stall, along with voters will have their day lifted by our buskers who’ll be jamming tomorrow between 10am – 2.00pm to help bring in funds for the school.

Besides feeling very proud to be able to showcase our students’ ability (whether they’ve just started learning or been playing for years), having buskers at our last election cake stall increased donations massively so we really appreciate their time and talent.

Whether you’re our newest musician or our Arncliffe’s best garage band, we want to see you shine tomorrow – please come and play!

LEGO Club We are very fortunate to have formed a partnership with Ability Links NSW. One aspect of their organisation is to deliver a Lego Club in schools and the Community. This year we are trialing Lego Club and are having an overwhelming positive response from the students and staff. The essence of the program is to build and expand social skills through cooperation whilst building a Lego model. Students rotate through the roles of "builder", "architect" and "supplier" on a 10 minute rotation, so that they have a turn in each role. Their engagement in the project has been outstanding.

Whooping Cough Congratulations to Tobias W who represented APS, in the combined Botany Bay/ Georges River team at the Sydney East PSSA AFL Championship Trials at Sutherland on Wednesday. The weather held off and the children all played well. It was a great day of football!

Congratulations to Darcy C and Sunny H who have been successful in qualifying for the combined Botany Bay & George’s River Rugby League teams to represent our school at the Sydney East Carnival.

Another big congratulations to Courtney C and Miria K for their outstanding results at the Botany Bay Zone Swimming Carnival. Their exceptional times have enabled them to qualify for the Sydney East Swimming Carnival. We wish all students the best of luck at the next level.

Whooping Cough (Pertussis) Information from the Ministry of Health about Whooping Cough is provided below Keep coughing kids home and see your GP.

Whooping cough (also called pertussis) began increasing across NSW towards the end of 2018, especially in children between the ages of 5 and 14 years. NSW Health anticipates that this increase will continue into 2019.

School-aged children who are infected with whooping cough usually experience a troubling cough that can persist for months, but they rarely get severe illness. However they can spread the infection to younger siblings and other more vulnerable people, who are at higher risk of severe disease. Whooping cough can be a life threatening infection in babies.

What can you do to prevent whooping cough?

1. 1.Make sure vaccinations are up to date for all family members 2. 2.Be alert for symptoms of whooping cough 3. 3.Keep coughing kids home, to prevent them spreading the infection to others, and

see your GP to get them tested for whooping cough

For more information on Whooping Cough and vaccination visit the NSW Health Website.

You can also find out about other infectious disease alerts by visiting the alerts page.
