Introducing 7614

The new 7614 series motor cycle shock absorber from Ikon Suspension takes the best of the 7610 series features and adds a lightweight aluminium body with a screw thread type pre-load adjustment for the spring and gas pressure just to top it off.

7614 has the same 4-position rebound damping adjustment feature found in 7610. This provides the rider with useful handling options ideal for road and track. The tradition of rebuildability and re-valveability continues in 7614. Many of the parts are interchangeable with 7610, which means the new series does not have to cost an arm and a leg and is economical to work with short and long term.

7614 has many potential applications. Almost all 7610 series shocks can be made as a 7614. Whether it be a street bike needing a high tech look, a vintage road racer, speedway rider or vintage motocrosser chasing the clock 7614 series shocks are there to provide affordable performance for all. 7614 has also found a useful place for a limited number of mono shock applications. In particular they have found ready acceptance on older K75, K100, K1100 and R series BMW’s.

Shock Absorber Fitting & Adjustment Fitting & Adjustment Instructions for Ikon Stereodampers Type 7610.

1. When the coil spring of the original shock absorber - or an IKON coil spring - has to be fitted, the following should be taken into account:

o Place the bottom spring retainer in the lowest position. o Fully extend the shock absorber with the piston rod uppermost. o To facilitate the fitting of the upper open spring retainer (e) the bump rubber

(d) should be placed approx. 1 cm under the upper eye. o Fit the spring (in the case of a progressively wound spring the coils that are

closest together should be placed at the bottom). o Compress the spring and position the upper open spring retainer (e).

2. Align the top eye of the damper with the lower attachment. 3. Fit the shock absorber with its piston rod in upright position and with the adjustment

window a directed to that side of the motor cycle that the adjusting disc (c) is most easily accessible (in most cases the outer side). - lift therefore the rubber cover (b).

4. If the attachment on the bike has a smaller diameter than that of the shock absorber, fit in that case the furnished bushing.

5. Verify, after fitting of the shock absorber, if the latter with its upper and lower attachment is fully free of any fitted luggage carriers, gear cases etc. If spacers are necessary, fit in that case the furnished spacers.

6. Tighten the nut or bolt as follows:

ADJUSTMENT

The damping force is adjustable by means of the adjusting disc in the upper eye. As circumstances and/or load may require, you may choose from the following 4 positions (clicks numbered 1-2-3-4):

1. For very smooth damping under modest loading. 2. For solo and pillion passenger use on average to good roads. 3. For sporting solo riding or for use with pillion passenger and luggage. 4. Heavier adjustment than strictly necessary for use with pillion passenger and

luggage.

ATTENTION

The left and right-handed damper should always be adjusted to the same position, thus showing the same number on the adjusting disc. The adjustment disc must be snapped exactly into its adjustment position, and not left between positions. The MIN. position 1 and MAX. position 4 have a perceptible stop.

In addition to the above-mentioned adjustment of the damping force, the preload of the spring can also be changed by means of the lower spring retainer. With the hook spanner supplied there are 3 adjustment positions possible:

• lower position for solo use. • centre position for pillion passenger use. • top position for heavy pillion passenger use.

The spring retainers of both dampers should be always adjusted to the same position.

To determine the correct IKON spring, first take the "S" measurement of the applicable shock absorber (see drawing). Add 10 to 30 mm to this length for the correct spring length (Lo). The solid height of the spring (Lbl) should always be smaller than the smallest length between the spring seats when the shock absorber is in full bump position and with the lower spring seat on maximum adjustment.

So, as a guide: Lbl < S - damper stroke - 35. Lbl = minimum spring length (solid height). S = length in-between the spring seats. Lo = free length of the spring. C = spring rate in N/mm (=kg/cm) and lbs/inch. Di = Inside diameter. d = wire diameter.

NB: All IKON spring seats are of the heavy duty
