DESCRIPTION

The Alcatel 7300 ASAM IP Services Module (ISM) is the
latest step in the evolution of the market-leading Alcatel 7300
Advanced Services Access Manager (ASAM). With the growth
of broadband services, service providers require more
intelligent Internet protocol (IP)-based devices that provide
differentiated access services. The ISM is the first of the
Alcatel 7300 ASAM line of products to offer IP and broadband
remote access server (BRAS) functions and features in the
access network.
The ISM provides termination of asynchronous transfer
mode (ATM) encapsulation, session management, and IP
layer filtering and forwarding. The ISM optimizes provision-
ing and network management with virtual circuit (VC)
aggregation while it opens Ethernet connectivity to the
Alcatel 7300 ASAM. This provides open access to both ATM
and IP networks, enabling service providers to leverage the
benefits of both worlds. Located at the heart of the Alcatel
7300 ASAM, the ISM also enables advanced services,
such as IP-based video multicast.
