Second, I hoped we could do the same thing with respect to our facilities. For those who have never attended one of our steering committee meetings, I try to always keep them to an hour or less in length. By keeping them short, we were only able to fully tackle the first point. The future of our facilities will be addressed next meeting. Here’s what we came up with: First, “spiritual life” while true, strikes me as a little vague. “Discipleship” captures more of what we are trying to develop in our people. Disciples learn. Disciples pray. Disciples trust Jesus even when they don’t quite understand what He’s doing. Disciples make disciples. Disci- ples are at all kinds of different stages in their walk with Jesus, but they all need to keep moving forward. Second, we recognize the power of small groups. Discipleship or spiritual growth won’t happen if it is limited to one hour a week (or maybe every couple of weeks). Small groups are intended to meet together, lift one another up, pray for one another, encourage, hold accountable, and basically do life togeth- er. Bible studies may or may not be a part. Currently, we have a few groups that meet regularly. I hope we can grow more as well as be more intentional about what the existing groups are doing now. Finally, like many others, I have been very impressed by what Greg Finke de- scribes in Joining Jesus on His Mission as well as what is discussed in the 5-2 meetings Jan and I have attended. I hope we can be more intentional about sharing that vision and incorporating it into our lives. To do this, we’ve discussed the possibility of having a recurring “5-2 minute” where we might discuss some of the principles Finke describes, or share per- sonal experiences of God working in our lives. As I mentioned earlier, we will be forming a new group to implement these ide- as and hopefully introduce some new ones as well. We will probably contact some people and ask them if they are willing to participate. I hope that if you read this and recognize that you have a passion for discipleship, that you would let me know. That’s exactly what this committee needs. Come to think of it, it’s what Lamb of God needs. It’s what the world needs. ~Pastor Mike

Hello Lamb of God!

Our last vision steering committee meeting was an especially positive one. My hope was that we could move forward on two major points. First, I wanted us to make some recommendations as to how we should move forward on growing our spiritual life, then pass that on to a different committee to implement and develop those recommendations.

Disci-ples are at all kinds of different stages in their walk with Jesus, but they all need to keep moving forward.

Second, we recognize the power of small groups. Discipleship or spiritual growth won’t happen if it is limited to one hour a week (or maybe every couple of weeks). Small groups are intended to meet together, lift one another up, pray for one another, encourage, hold accountable, and basically do life togeth-er. Bible studies may or may not be a part. Currently, we have a few groups that meet regularly. I hope we can grow more as well as be more intentional about what the existing groups are doing now.

Finally, like many others, I have been very impressed by what Greg Finke de-scribes in Joining Jesus on His Mission as well as what is discussed in the 5-2 meetings Jan and I have attended. I hope we can be more intentional about sharing that vision and incorporating it into our lives.

To do this, we’ve discussed the possibility of having a recurring “5-2 minute” where we might discuss some of the principles Finke describes, or share per-sonal experiences of God working in our lives.

As I mentioned earlier, we will be forming a new group to implement these ide-as and hopefully introduce some new ones as well. We will probably contact some people and ask them if they are willing to participate. I hope that if you read this and recognize that you have a passion for discipleship, that you would let me know. That’s exactly what this committee needs. Come to think of it, it’s what Lamb of God needs. It’s what the world needs.

HAITI UPDATE

Page 6 Issue 179 HAITI UPDATES — June 20 & July 2

June 20, 2015 Bonjou mwen zanmi! (Good day my friends!) Faith Lutheran Church’s mission team returned from our trip to MADO (La Maison des Agneaux de Dieu Orphelinat—The House of the Lambs of God Orphanage) Wednesday, June 17th. The trip was eventful (more than I dare share in an update), enriching (emotionally, socially, and spiritually), and an experience that I was delighted to be involved with. This is the last week before break for our school. (Check the photos attached of the end of school celebration). We got to witness the students taking their standardized tests. They sat in special seating arrangements: 2nd grade student next to 6th grade student next to 4th grade student. This way, the opportunity to see a classmate’s answers was not available—an encouraging and refreshing view of the serious approach the students and teachers take toward educa-tion. I did glance at a math test for a third grader and was encouraged at the rigor expected of the students. Our work project included construction and some French tutoring by a member of our team who is proficient in French. After day one she had to increase the level of the intensity of her teaching. She was pleasantly surprised with the knowledge of the students. For construction work, we pursued constructing the floor of the building for the Baja Church plant, a building which is also used as a school. Level the dirt, tamp the ground, place big rocks, place small rocks, then lay the cement. The most labor for our team was the consistent hauling of water from a hand-pumped well fifty yards away and down a hill. There is much to be said, as with all teams when they return. I en-courage you to watch our website (www.nehlm.org) for new pictures as we get them up. I also ask you to pray for a mission team from Dixon, California which departs tonight to be with MADO for the week. Through it all we pray that the Word of the Lord grows in the hearts of the dear souls in Haiti and all of you who continue to be informed of God’s work through this ministry.

July 2, 2015 “Camp Discovery: Jesus is at Work Through Us.” This is the Vacation Bible School (VBS) that we took to Haiti in early June, then presented here in La Grande, Oregon, June 22-26, and, Lord willing, will use again at Faith’s Outreach site in Enterprise, Oregon, the third week of July. I often have the Bible stories and songs running through my mind. The overall theme is caught up in the title. NEHLM, Rev. Paul with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Haiti (altar and pulpit fellow-ship with the LCMS), is delighted to witness Jesus at work through us in this ministry. The “us” includes each one of you as you support this ministry in the variety of ways available. Praise God for choosing and using you. Rev. Paul reported the good experience of the team from Dixon, California. They were able to present a mini-VBS at the church plant in Ba-ja. This is where Faith’s team worked in early June to pour the floor and finish the walls. As they were with the people and saw the need for benches for the church/school, they presented the ministry funds that were donated by a Kiwanis Club in Dixon, California. What a variety of support this mission receives! The Dixon team also helped with some finish work on the front, outside walls of the girls orphanage. Rev. Paul has applied for his travel VISA. When it is in hand, there are plans to have him go to Miami for a follow-up appointment with the surgeon who operated on his eyes for glaucoma. Until then, Rev. Paul is making efforts to see an eye doctor in Cap Haitian. He does understand the importance of protecting his eyes with sunglasses. They continue to get nourishing rain showers and their crops are doing well. They are harvesting plantains and will be harvesting corn, beans, bananas, and cassava soon. This will give the children healthy work as they are out of school for summer break. The Lord bless and keep you, Rev. Sam Wiseman NEHLM Pastoral Adviser
