town centre. There was some initial erosion around ramps, platforms and embankments which was rectified in October 2010 and further short term operational works need to ensure the space between the skate and BMX facility and car parking areas is delineated and safe. Additional longer term improvements to the facility could include the installation of seating and street elements and there also appears to be no publicly accessible toilets available for participants. Consideration towards the provision of toilet access via either the adjacent Beerwah Aquatics Centre or Beerwah Sports Ground is required.

BackgroundBeerwah has been identified as a major activity area within the South East Queensland Regional Plan, which will receive continued growth throughout the life of this Plan and has the second highest growth percentage of children and young people in the region.

Located within the Beerwah Sports Ground the Beerwah Skate and BMX Facility (constructed in 2009) for intermediate – advanced users is in good condition, has a range of active elements and is well positioned adjacent to the Roberts Road street frontage, the local high school and in reasonable proximity to the

primarily caters for beginner to intermediate users and is in average condition with the overall surface condition requiring short term works. Specifically there are cracks and gaps under coping, skirting is required to alleviate erosion around platforms and embankments and the mini bowl has poor drainage. There is also an opportunity to integrate seating, raise shade sail heights above activity areas, incorporate more natural shade options and provide an additional bin and path linking the facility to the public toilet.

BackgroundBli Bli is located within the Bli Bli – Rosemount and district locality. This locality will receive continued growth – 2020 and has approximately 27 per cent of the populus being children and young people. This will continue to place strong demands on the local skate and BMX facility at Bli Bli. The population base also has access to a district facility at Alexandra Headlands.

Located in Muller Park on David Low Way, the Bli Bli local skate and BMX facility is somewhat isolated from the Bli Bli township and has limited public transport access. The facility

has low level usage, is difficult to access, and experiences a high level of anti-social behaviour. Shade sails were installed but have been removed due to continued vandalism.

Council needs to review opportunities to replace this facility in closer proximity to other community infrastructure. Consultation with the local community is required to determine a way forward.Note: Another private neighbourhood facility exists at the Goodlife Community and Recreation Centre within Buderim. This facility provides entry to members and memberships are free. Unfortunately there are limited opening hours on weekends. Future partnerships with this organisation should be pursued.

BackgroundThe Kuluin skate and BMX facility lies within the Buderim – Kuluin – Mons – Kunda Park locality which has the highest number of young people in the region, however there appears to be a lack of youth recreation facilities in the area and this requires strategic consideration. This locality falls within the district catchments of the Alexander Headlands facility and a proposed district facility at Palmview in the longer term.

Located off Tallowwood Drive, the existing facility at Kuluin caters for beginner to intermediate users is poorly located and designed, lacks visibility and surveillance, has received complaints from local residents,

Upgrades required for this facility to fix cracks, provide a concrete skirting around platforms, include street elements, add additional seating for parents/spectators and help cater for a broader cross section of users. Consider co-locating Skate Australia office space at facility to assist with facility security, stimulate skate events and provide mentoring opportunties. Work with community to progress a way forward.

Medium SCC $80,000-$100,000

Located adjacent to the Caloundra Lifestyle Aquatic Centre within the Caloundra Central Park Sports Complex this well utilised beginner to intermediate facility is the only ‘flow’ style and user pays for entry facility within the region. It is well positioned in close proximity to schools and the Caloundra CBD. However the condition of this facility is average and it has minor cracks in the concrete surface, there are areas of degradation around platforms and embankments, the security fencing is vandalised and the facility lacks street elements.

BackgroundCaloundra is located within the Caloundra – Kings Beach – Moffat Beach – Shelly Beach locality. This locality continues to receive growth over the life of this Plan with a strong population base of children and young people within this and surrounding localities to support the ongoing provision of a district skate and BMX facility at Caloundra.

and could benefit from the inclusion of a small beginner’s area to help reduce overcrowding issues.

Annual competitions occur at the facility, however there is limited infrastructure to support events (bump in spectator seating). Additionally the space between the facility and adjacent car park requires delineation to reduce potential skateboard projections towards the car parking area and existing lighting may require upgrading to improve coverage and increase the after hours potential carrying capacity, (although after hours uses need to be considerate of neighbouring land uses e.g. caravan park).

BackgroundCoolum is located within the Coolum Beach – Mount Coolum – Yaroomba – Point Arkwright locality. This locality has the fifth highest number of children and young people within the region and a total population base which is predicted to double over the life of this Plan.

The Coolum District Skate and BMX Facility caters for beginner to intermediate users, is in good condition and well positioned in terms of proximity to central Coolum and active and public transport connections. The well utilised facility comprises a continuous bowl, junior half pipe, grind block, slide rail, vertical wall drops, manual pod and pump feature, however lacks street elements, seating for active users

users and has good passive surveillance and informal management. However, the surface is in average condition and outdated, with minor erosion around ramp platform and embankments, cracks in concrete surface and slightly rough in sections.

Currently this facility is earmarked for minor works as part of some associated park upgrades within the five year Capital Works Budget.

BackgroundThe Cooran – Federal locality is a reasonably isolated north-western community which is predicted to receive minimal growth through to 2020.

Need to ensure a community group supports the ongoing maintenance, management and use of the Cooroy BMX Dirt Park. Consider MOU to outline roles and responsibilities and improve facility sustainability.

Short Community n/a

The Cooroy BMX Dirt Park is a small purpose built BMX dirt park within Apex Park in central Cooroy. During consultation a number of people who were on BMX bikes at the skate park said they don’t use the dirt track because of the poor design and inappropriate construction material. The findings of this Plan also indicated that BMX dirt parks require a higher level of maintenance and care and greater risk management controls than concrete skate and BMX facilities due to the inherent nature of dirt jumps eroding and dirt infrastructure suffering the effects of the SEQ climate. As a result, larger BMX dirt parks are the preference, particularly when demands are well understood and a BMX club can be given the responsibility to maintain such facilities. Conversely, the ongoing provision of smaller dirt parks such as this needs careful assessment, as the resource requirements to effectively maintain and manage the risks associated with dirt infrastructure are onerous and require community assistance to ensure sustainable management.

BackgroundCooroy is one of the focal townships within the northern hinterland area and the Cooroy locality will continue to receive small growth throughout the life of this Plan.

The Cooroy Local Skate and BMX Facility is in good condition, catering for beginner to intermediate users. Well established deciduous trees provide natural shade to this facility but also cause leaf litter which requires a higher level of maintenance to clean the activity areas of this facility. Minor works will be required to rectify some uneven joins on steel mini ramp in older section of park, an extra layer of steel is required to spine mini ramp and improved drainage on the northern side of the facility. Minor extensions including the addition of some new elements and seating would also improve the flow, capacity and functionality of this facility.

Minor works to rectify cracking at joins. Short SCC $5,000

Works to improve the capacity of this facility, including the resolution of drainage issues. Consider minor upgrades to include street based elements with separate beginner and intermediate areas. Work with community to progress a way forward.

Medium $40,000-$60,000

The Currimundi Neighbourhood Skate and BMX Facility caters for beginner to intermediate users and is in average condition with minor cracking issues at joins and poor drainage which results in regular flooding. The facility is isolated and out of site making it prone to anti-social behaviour. It is well utilised, gets crowded quickly, is dated and could benefit from modifications. Additional elements would improve the capacity of the facility and reduce the intensity of use at the nearby Dicky Beach skate and BMX facility.

BackgroundCurrimundi is located within the Currimundi – Aroona – Battery Hill – Dicky Beach locality. This locality has the fourth highest number of children and young people in the region and demonstrates strong growth through to 2020 with the projected population base almost doubling. This locality is also serviced by the district facility catchments of Caloundra and Kawana and the local facility catchment of Dicky Beach.

and beach, to public transport, shops and amenities. The facility has average passive surveillance due to an amenities block which inhibits view lines.

The modification of the skate bowl, introduction of new elements and relocation of the amenities block would improve functionality and safety for users. Consideration to replacing this amenity block with beach showers and a more contemporary toilet block away from the direct sight line of the skate park is recommended. This would allow the skate and BMX facility to better integrate with the surrounding parkland and infrastructure. Consideration could also include possible relocation of the facility towards Coochin Park to open up foreshore park space.

BackgroundDicky Beach is located within the Currimundi – Aroona – Battery Hill – Dicky Beach locality which has the fourth highest number of children and young people in the region and demonstrates strong growth through to 2020 with the projected population base almost doubling. This locality is also serviced by the district facility catchments of Caloundra and Kawana and neighbourhood facility of Currimundi.

The Dicky Beach District Skate and BMX Facility caters for beginner to intermediate users and is in average condition which is rough in sections (joints in general) and at the bottom of the mini ramp. The facility is heavily utilised, particularly on school holidays given its proximity to the Dicky Beach Caravan Park

and receives medium to high level usage, particularly on weekends and market days, however, the facility can only cater for up to approximately five users at a time. There is room for expansion to the northwest of the site and this has the potential to include street elements, pathway access and a water bubbler in future longer term upgrades. The half pipe surface is also a little bumpy with some erosion around coping and edges and will require minor medium term works.

The nearest pubic toilets appear to be located beyond the Aquatics Centre but may be difficult for skate and BMX facility users to find. Signage directing skate facility users to the public toilets location would appear useful.

BackgroundEumundi is located within the Eumundi – Eerwah Vale – North Arm – Bridges locality and is one of the focal townships within the northern hinterland area primarily known for its markets. However in terms of future population growth this locality is only predicted to receive relatively small growth (more than 1000) through to 2020. From a skate and BMX opportunities perspective this locality is well provided for and assists with provision for the neighbouring locality of Doonan – Verridale.

The Eumundi Skate and BMX Facility is in good condition and provides experiences for beginner to intermediate users. The facility is in reasonable proximity to bus and rail

beginner users. The surface of this facility has minor cracks in joins and the existing imitation hand rail is a safety issue due to poor design. There is also some erosion occurring around perimeters, cracks in surface joins and proximity to swings creates a possible risk management issue. Minor expansion would improve the capacity of the facility with inclusion of additional elements. Consideration is required to modifying the existing hand rail down stair set to make it more user friendly (i.e. less steep and make end of rail higher off the ground). Note: There is no available water on site but shops are in close proximity.

BackgroundEudlo has a small concentrated urban living area surrounding the township which is contained within the locality of Ilkley – Eudlo and district. This locality receives steady growth through to 2020 and has a comparably high number and percent (30.4 per cent) of children and young people. Much of the localities population base is to the east of the locality planning area and existing children and young people located here may benefit from a proposed facility within the Palmview development area which is closer by proximity.

The current neighbourhood skate and BMX facility at Eudlo is located close to bus and rail and is in good condition catering for

Boreen Point Sports Grounds and adjacent to the caravan park beside the lake.

Unfortunately this infrastructure has aged quickly and is already in average condition and it appears as though the facility receives low levels of usage (which increases in the school holidays). The existing asphalt base also appears too thin for the steel skate elements and the whole immediate area is prone to ‘sink holes’ and a potential public liability. There is a need to consider the ongoing viability of this facility and consultation with the local community is required to determine a way forward.

BackgroundThe Boreen Point Skate and BMX Facility is situated within the locality of Kin Kin – Cootharaba and district which is the most northern locality within the region. This locality is reasonably isolated from other areas and townships within the region. The locality has a low youth population base and the current provision of skate-able elements at Boreen Point appears under utilised, which matches population characteristics.

In 2004, skate-able elements catering for beginner to intermediate users were introduced onto an asphalt based tennis court within the

broken seating. The rail over staircase and the grind block situated in the path of the fun box are both potential safety issues. There is an opportunity to relocate the grind box from in front of the fun box, improve drainage, repair cracks in bowl and add new street elements. Previously seating was installed however this was repeatedly vandalised.

This facility has poor visibility and natural surveillance and is not well positioned in relation to the township. As a result the facility has some anti-social behavioural problems. A long term solution may be to consider the relocation of this facility towards the town centre within the open space area of the future Landsborough Historical Precinct or towards Skippy Park.

BackgroundThe Landsborough Skate and BMX Facility is situated within the locality of Landsborough – Mount Mellum which is located within the southern hinterland area of the region. This localities population base has a high number of children and young people which is predicted to almost double through to 2020.

The Landsborough Skate and BMX Facility is located just outside the Landsborough township within the Landsborough Sports Ground. This facility is in below average condition, underutilised, outdated (for beginner to intermediate users) and does not meet the users’ needs. The Little Mountain facility is located within a low density residential/rural residential area of this locality, is in poor condition and caters for beginner to intermediate users. The facility is well utilised on weekends as a destination point in conjunction with other park functions. The design is outdated, undersized, impractical, has fire damage to surface damage of bowl making it uninviting and is subjected to flooding.

Short term upgrades are required to improve the functionality of this facility and improved active transport connections will enhance the accessibility for users from Raintree Boulevard and from the neighbouring Bell Vista development to this facility. Long term, there is a need to investigate the viability of this facility when a proposed major district facility is delivered as part of the Caloundra South development.

BackgroundThe Little Mountain Skate and BMX Facility is situated within the locality of Little Mountain – Caloundra West – Meridan Plains – Bells Creek which is located within the southern coastal part of the region. This locality will receive the strongest growth through to 2020 as the Caloundra South development area commences. The Caloundra South development area alone will have an ultimate population of 50,000 and along with other locality growth hot spots of Ivadale Lakes, Creekwood, Bell Vista and the Caloundra Transport Orientated Community, the provision of adequate skate and BMX facilities in this locality will be required to ensure the growing population has access to these opportunities.

facility within approximately a 15 kilometre radius. This facility caters for beginner to intermediate users and is currently in average condition with erosion behind the old bowl due to BMX riders using the grass mound as an informal landing area, dated half pipe, and also has a fairly rough surface – chipped concrete in section under copping of bowled corner. The current design limits the amount of users to approximately eight at any one time and the site has limited opportunity for expansion. The facility receives medium to high usage after school and on weekends and there is no footpath linkage to this facility.

BackgroundMaleny is considered a focal hinterland township within the southern part of the Sunshine Coast hinterland. This township is located within the Maleny – Witta – North Maleny locality which has a mixture of residential, rural residential and rural areas throughout. The population within this locality will experience moderate growth through to 2020 and children and young people currently comprise approximately 21 per cent of the total population base.

contains two flat banks, grind rails and quarter pipes, a tabletop, mini spine and a curved bowl. Unfortunately the facility is confined (up to three users at any time), making it prone to overcrowding and collisions, and erosion was evident around facility platform and embankments. The existing bench/seats do not appear to service the facility or provide opportunities for parents to sit and observe their children and there are no pathway connections to the facility from the main road. Longer term opportunities exist to expand the facility and better integrate with other park uses if demand warrants.

BackgroundMapleton is a small focal central hinterland township west of Nambour located in the locality of Mapleton – Flaxton – Obi Obi. This locality has a relatively small population base with growth in the past in the middle to older age group cohorts, particularly in the 50 to 59 and 70 to 84 year age groups. Of the population base, approximately 22 per cent are children and young people.

Upgrades were strongly supported by the community and Skateboarding Australia; however there are potential expansion issues due to the site being bounded by the coast and main road.

Preparation of a master plan for the Alexandra Headlands facility is required to guide the planning and direction of this facility and needs to consider predicted climate change impacts that may occur in the future. Long term alternative locations may require consideration if climate change impacts and other site constraints limit the capacity of this facility to meet growing population requirements, however the preservation of this facility for as long as possible is recommended given its iconic location.

BackgroundAlexandra Headlands is located within the Mooloolaba – Alexandra Headlands locality and is adjacent to the Maroochydore Principal Activity Centre which both receive strong growth through to 2020 and are predicted to contain over 6500 children and young people by 2020 within the two localities.

The Alexandra Skate Park is the most well utilised and publicly recognised skate and BMX facility on the Sunshine Coast, renowned for its crowds and idyllic location. The facility is currently in average condition and experiences high level usage resulting in overcrowding. According to users consulted, Alexandra Headlands is one of their favourite facilities due its location and one of their least favourite due to poor infrastructure design and maintenance. Repair work will improve the function and safety of the facility and further consideration is required to ensure a pathway linkage to this site from the main road. Longer term, consideration is required towards relocating the skate and BMX facility within closer proximity to the Mooloolah township.

BackgroundMooloolah Valley is a township located within the Mooloolah Valley – Diamond Valley – Balmoral Ridge – Bald Knob locality which is situated north west of Landsborough within the southern part of the hinterland. This locality is predicted to receive minor growth through to 2020 and it is anticipated that most growth will occur in and around the Mooloolah township within the urban footprint.

The Mooloolah Valley Skate and BMX Facility is located approximately 5 kilometres outside the township of Mooloolah to the east within the Mooloolah Valley Sports Grounds and borders both the Mooloolah and Ilkley – Eudlo localities.

Currently the facility is new and in good condition for beginner to advanced users and run by the Mooloolah BMX Club. Some resurfacing to surroundings would improve overall site condition and future works could consider grandstand or seating for competitions, and this may provide an economic stimulus. There are also some problems with motorbikes using and degrading the condition of the jumps within this facility.

This facility has become a potential liability and requires extensive works including resurfacing (bitumen base is unsuitable for skate boarders), adequate drainage, new coping, new half pipe, additional elements, shade and exposed aggregate apron around perimeter of skate facility. Minor works in 2010 during the development of this Plan rectified some of these concerns temporarily. Also need to consider the relationship of the site’s fig trees and associated root systems which are typically not compatible with a skate facility and further tree planting around the perimeter of the site to improve natural shade and help segregate neighbouring residential land uses.

Other site options for facility relocation should be explored prior to commencing new works to assess the best site mix in the central Nambour area.

BackgroundNambour is located in the locality of Nambour – Burnside and district. This is situated within the central hinterland area of the Sunshine Coast and has been identified as a major activity area for the region within the SEQ Regional Plan. The locality will receive continued growth through to 2020 and has a high and growing population base of children and young people.

The Nambour Skate and BMX Facility is located within the heart of Nambour and is in poor condition catering for beginner to advanced users. The existing site is in close proximity (approximately 500 metres) to public transport (i.e. train station and bus interchange) and appears to have adequate space for expansion as well as having potential to form part of a Place Making Project.

The Palmwoods Skate and BMX facility is located within the Palmwoods Sports Grounds and is in good condition catering for beginner to intermediate users. Some erosion is being experienced along the access point to the facility from Palmwoods-Montville Rd and around some of the facilities’ concrete platforms. Facility has low to medium use rates and some capacity to expand if demand increases. Pathway connection from road would also improve direct access. Note: Minor works were completed in late 2010 which rectified any safety issues.

This facility has inadequate drainage, minor erosion around platforms and at the end of rail landing and a short landing ramp is required after stairs. The site has good passive surveillance, although some behavioural problems are occurring and the site has some opportunity to incorporate a beginner’s area.

A small skate ditch also exists at Persimmon Park, Lancewood Avenue, Peregian Beach. This is poorly placed (close to residents), is in very poor condition and does not appear to be used. It is recommended this ditch is removed and resources concentrated on the Kingfisher Drive facility. Confirm with community through localised community engagement.

BackgroundPeregian Beach is located in the northern coastal region and has a relatively small population base which increases during weekends and holiday periods. This locality is predicted to receive minor growth through to 2020 and has a generally low resident children and youth population. Peregian Beach is a desirable family holiday destination and the Peregian Beach Skate and BMX Facility contributes towards this attraction.

The Peregian Beach Skate and BMX Facility is in good condition for beginner to intermediate users and also services the Peregian Springs locality, although access from Peregian Springs can be a safety issue for children and young people due to main road crossings.

However the landing runway after the spine quarter is dangerous (very short and goes into dirt) and should be considered for improvement. The Chancellor Park infrastructure on Sir Raleigh Drive is in average condition catering for beginner to intermediate users. There is erosion around the quarter pipe, wedge bank platform, embankment and anti-social elements are evident. There is a need to review the viability of the infrastructure on Sir Raleigh Drive given its poor design and proximity to neighbouring residential homes. Consultation with the local community is required to determine a way forward.

These repairs need to focus on rectifying the pitted concrete on rounded hip, join crack issues, coping split at curved section of half pipe, crack under coping, large gap under platform of 1.2 metre quarter pipe. Additional considerations could also include raising the height of the shade sails above the half pipe (as these are too low), rectifying inadequate drainage and the inclusion of a beginner’s area to the west.

Future opportunities need to investigate the potential to expand this facility into a regional venue which has access from Nicklin Way.

As a result, larger BMX dirt parks are the preference, particularly when demands are well understood and a BMX club can be given the responsibility to maintain such facilities. Conversely, the ongoing provision of smaller dirt parks such as this needs careful assessment, as the resource requirements to effectively maintain and manage the risks associated with dirt jumps is onerous and requires community assistance to ensure sustainable management.

GlossaryFacility styles

Skate plazas

Skate plazas consist of replica street elements from the urban environment (e.g. stairs, rails, manual pads, bumps, banks). Use of alternative material such as bricks, granite, wood and steel. Can be multi-functional, just like civic plazas in urban setting are multi functional (e.g. recreating, socialising, skateboarding, street art, busking).

Bowls and pools

Bowls and pools are a replica of backyard pools which have evolved to unprecedented proportions (e.g. some of the skate facilities in Oregon, the Canary Islands Park and the Worlds biggest facility in Shanghai China).

Hybrids

Hybrid skate facilities are a combination of street, bowl/pool, and transition elements. It is because of this they are one of the most popular types of facilities.

Flow parks

Flow parks are large and spacious facilities which consist of multiple interconnecting bowls at varying levels. The wide, open flow course environment allows skaters to ride in many directions with multiple options.

Ramp parks

Ramp parks consist of transition elements typically in the form vert and mini ramps. Are ideal for sites with limited space and integration with existing skate and BMX facilities or other community spaces.

Liberated spots

Liberated spots are public places which skateboarders have already been attracted to and utilise illegally, but have been formalised as a legitimate skate facility through upgrade and repairs to the exiting elements, and inclusion of new elements (e.g. South Bank in London, Milton Keynes Bus Station (pictured left) and Brooklyn Banks in Brooklyn in New York).

Facility styles

Skate dots and spots

Skate dots are small singular skateable elements integrated into the streetscape or park design, while Skate spots are more diverse structures that support different approaches and a greater variety of elements.

Multi-use youth activity spaces

Multi-use youth activity spaces are inclusive, flexible spaces which provide the opportunity to engage in a variety of youth recreation activities, with skateboarding being a key component.

BMX trails

BMX trails are dirt jumps, that are built in opportunistic locations based on rider demand. They would be built around existing environmental elements and are designed to provide a constantly evolving challenge for riders. This type of site would receive a high level of user modification and would require careful monitoring and planning. Often these sites would be built entirely by local riders, and require minimal council assistance.

Freestyle BMX dirt jumps

Similar to BMX trails, with a series of dirt jumps, however they are designed for performing crazy tricks over larger and less flow-orientated jumps.

BMX street parks

BMX street parks are purpose-built specifically for the needs of BMX riders. They are laid out to promote flow and allow for a number of tricks to be executed in a run. They can be constructed out of concrete, steel (pictured left), or wood (more common for indoor facilities). Key features include jump boxes, sub-boxes, wall-rides, spine ramps, rails, ledges and quarter pipes.

BMX race tracks

The track usually consists of a starting gate for up to eight racers, a groomed, serpentine, dirt race course made of various jumps and rollers and a finish line. The course is usually flat, about 15-foot (4.6 m) wide and has large banked corners that help the riders maintain speed. The sport is very family oriented and largely participant-driven, with riders ranging in age from 3 to 60, and over.

A skateboard is propelled by pushing with one foot while the other remains on the board, or by pumping one’s legs in structures such as a pool or half pipe. A skateboard can also be used by simply standing on the deck while on a downward slope and allowing gravity to propel the board and rider.

In-line skates Inline skates/rollerblades usually have three (if using 100 mm or 110 mm), four or five (80 mm) wheels, arranged in a single line. Most commonly, if they have a stop, it is a heel stop. Inline skating is often done on the road, sidewalk, skate park various street furnishings like fences and steps, and on special tracks and areas.

BMX bikes BMX stands for Bicycle Motocross. These bikes are a modification of the traditional cycle made to ride on dirt tracks or for doing manoeuvres such as jumps. Though originally connoting a bicycle intended for BMX Racing, the term ‘BMX bike’ is now used, generically, to encompass race bikes, as well as those used for the dirt, vert, park, street and flatland disciplines of BMX.

Scooter A child’s vehicle consisting of a small platform with two or more wheels that is propelled by a rider pushing off the ground. The most common scooters today have two hard, small wheels, are made primarily of aluminium and fold for convenience. Scootering (also scooting or freestyle scooter or scooter riding) is a relatively new action sport which involves using kick scooters to perform freestyle tricks, in a manner similar to skateboarding and BMX freestyle.

Rip stick Also known as a caster board, a two-wheeled, human-propelled vehicle that is closely related to the skateboard and the snakeboard. Two narrow platforms known as ‘decks’ are adjoined by a rubber or aluminium coated metal beam that houses a strong spring. Each truck has one wheel that is connected to the board in a way that each wheel can rotate independently, like the wheels on a shopping trolley. Both wheels are mounted on slants that measure around 30° in angle, facing away from the front of the board.
