EX: She gasped when she realized there was someone following them. He held his broken arm and groaned. sigh: breathe out loudly and slowly to express emotion. EX: We knew Mother was tired because she sighed as she got out of her chair. He sighed and shook his head when he learned someone had hit his new car. Review: In past lessons we learned about Carol, who took a dress from the dry cleaner store where she worked. The dress belonged to one of the customers. Carol wore the dress to a wedding. The dress was too small. Carol ripped it when she tried to zip it up. Then she stepped in mud and splashed mud on the dress. Now Carol is at the wedding. Novel Scenes: Chapter 10 An Angry Woman Carol's heart is pounding very hard. Now she understands why this woman is angry. Carol gasps. But she forgets that she can't breathe. So she hears another little rip. The woman's face is very red. She grabs Carol's arm. She leans over and whispers in her ear, "You're the woman from the dry cleaner!" Carol doesn't say anything. "Well," says the woman, "that's my dress. And you're in big trouble." Carol stands up. She runs out of the church. She runs back to the bus stop. On the bus, she stands. But then she sits down. Why not? There are many holes in this dress now. And her feet are very tired.
