2. WHAT IS DEWEY DECIMAL CLASSIFICATION (DDC)? The DDC was createdin 1876 by Melvil Dewey. Designed to organize non-fiction materials in the library collection. What types of materials are considered nonfiction? 3. HOW DOES DEWEY DECIMAL CLASSIFICATION WORK? Books based on similar or related topics areorganized together. Numbers and letters, known as call numbers, are used to make the books easier to find on the shelves. For example: The call number for The Bone Detectives by Donna M. Jackson looks likes this: 363.2 JAC 4. WHERE CAN I FIND THE CALL NUMBER?The call numbersare located on the spine of the book. 5. WHY DO I NEED TO LEARN ABOUT DDC? It will help you search for the books you need.Familiarize you with important topics. Allow you to be more successful in using themedia center. Will make you look very intelligent when you tell others about the classification of nonfiction books! 6.
