Estimating thE Brick rEquirEdDetermine the amount o Cultured Brick products needed by

measuring the area to be covered. Measure the length times the

height to arrive at the gross square ootage o lat area needed.

Subtract square ootage or window, door and other openings.Measure the linear eet o outside corners to determine the

amount o corner pieces needed. One linear oot o corner pieces

covers approximately 0.80 square eet o lat area. Subtract the

lat area covered by the linear eet o corner pieces rom the

square ootage o lat area required. You may wish to obtain some

extra brick to allow or cutting and trimming.

smearing mortar on surace o brick. Accidental smears or mortar

    or wire brush.

Pre-Blended Polymer modified mortars, bonding agents/enhancers

may provide greater bond strength. Enhanced bond strength

capability may be desired or: tilt up construction or where code

jurisdictions require higher bond strength. These products must be

compatible with manuactured stone and used in strict accordance

with manufacturers instructions. These products may also havespeciic requirements regarding: hot or cold weather, exposure to

rain/water while curing or water used to dampen the stone units

    prior to installation.

    Sal and D-Icing Chmicals

Because all concrete and masonry are vulnerable to damage by

salt, Cultured Brick products are not warranted against damage

incurred rom salt or other chemicals used to remove snow or ice.

Do not use de-icing chemicals on areas immediately adjacent to a

    Cultured Brick veneer application.

    Scung

Scuing occurs on all brick. Occasionally some scuing will occu

on the surace o Cultured Brick products. This can enhance

the appearance o your Cultured Brick veneer installation. Some

scu marks can be removed by cleaning as described above.

    efrscnc

Efflorescence is a water-soluble salt that is deposited on the

surace o stucco, concrete, brick and other masonry products

by the evaporation o water rom the wall. On rare occasions

elorescence will occur on Cultured Brick products. To

remove elorescence, allow the brick to dry thoroughly, then

scrub vigorously with a sti bristle brush and clean water.

Rinse thoroughlydo not use a wire brush. For more diicult

elorescence problems, scrub thoroughly with a solution o 1 part

white household vinegar to 5 parts water. Rinse thoroughly. For

unusually diicult cleaning problems, contact your local Cultured

    Brick dealer.

    Salrs

Sealers are not necessary on Cultured Brick products. However,

some customers use sealers to help prevent staining in applications

prone to smoke, soot, dirt or water splashing. If you choose to

use a sealer, make sure it is a silane-based, breathable sealer.

Take note that sealers may darken the color o the brick. A sealer

may also slow the natural movement o moisture out o the brick

and increase the possibility o elorescence and/or spalling.

For inormation regarding actual perormance or application o

sealers, contact the manuacturer o the sealer directly.

Us Culurd Brick Blw War Lvls

Cultured Brick veneer is a lightweight concrete material and

will not deteriorate rom exposure to resh liquid water. The

use o Cultured Brick veneer below water level, in which the

water is chlorinated, treated with chemicals or dirty will likely

cause discoloration as it would on any concrete, natural stone

or other materials. Cultured Brick veneer concrete and many

natural stone materials are subject to potential damage romadverse reeze thaw conditions. Water should be drained below

susceptible materials prior to reezing temperatures. Pressure

and abrasion rom constant ast lowing water may cause some

surace deterioration as it would on other concrete materials. The

suraces o concrete and many other materials may be aected

by exposure to extensive salt-water conditions. Cultured Brick

veneer should not be considered a waterproo material.

incorPoratE good Building PracticEsBuilding Cd Rquirmns

Building code requirements vary rom area to area. Check with

local authorities or building code requirements in your area.

Rigid, corrosion-resistant flashing shall be installed at all wall

products subjected to these conditions may develop staining and,

when combined with severe freeze-thaw conditions, may eventually

cause surace damage. The application o Cultured Brick

products under these conditions is not recommended.

    Rainscrn Samn

Some building codes require a rainscreen behind cladding

materials, including manufactured brick veneer. If you are

installing manuactured brick veneer in one o these jurisdictions,

or are concerned about extreme weather conditions, it is

recommended that you choose a rainscreen system that can

    achieve the ollowing:

The system should create a space with a minimum depth of3/8

    (10mm) and maximum depth o (19mm).

The materials should be corrosion and rot resistant.

Unless otherwise designed to manage moisture vapor, the

    system should be vapor open.

If rainscreen space is created with a material other than solid

strapping/ urring attached directly to raming, the ollowing

must be considered. Lath asteners must be capable o

supporting the weight o the fnished wall cladding system

considering the unsupported/cantilevered portion o astener

that is equal to the thickness o the rainscreen materials.

    ovrhad Applicain

Overhead, horizontal or sloped applications are not included

in our building code evaluation reports or acceptances. These

applications oten require special approval/inspections by local

building code inspectors. Contact your architect or engineer or

    assistance designing these installations.

    Insallain ovr thick Fam

along the back o the wall set in drain rock is recommended.

    Chimny Cap

All chimney chases must be capped with a one-piece cap that
