First Gulf Bank...The Authority granted the

License in accordance with the Act and the Ministerial Resolution No 1. of 2008 and the License, effective immediately and valid until October, 20th, 2018 permits FGB to operate as a CSP in the UAE.

FGB is one of the first banks in the UAE to be legally authorised to issue digital certificates. FGB initiated a new platform, FirstConnect, to offer customers a digital platform which safeguards the authenticity of any transactions conducted via the new system.

“As the UAE continues on its progressive path through the modern digital era, ensuring a safe and secure environment that is conducive to the growing number of UAE online trade is essential,” said H.E. Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General.

“Part of that effort is monitoring those who offer electronic transactions across their online platforms. As the nation’s ICT regulator, this is a core responsibility of the TRA and by granting CSPs we in turn boost consumer confidence and contribute to the UAE’s economic diversification project.”

Commenting on First Gulf Bank’s CSP accreditation, Jassim Al Ali, FGB representative and Chief Executive Officer of First Gulf Properties (FGP), said “We are pleased to be named as an official

‘Certification Service Provider’ by the TRA and to bring FirstConnect, a new advanced internet banking platform, to First Gulf Bank customers.

“FirstConnect is the most secure online transaction solution within the regional banking sector. It meets both European and US standards and is the Middle East’s most advanced online banking platform.”

Through FirstConnect, customers can carry out a range of cash management, trade finance and financial supply chain management activities.

Key features for customers include the ability to readily access accounts on a real time basis, initiate payments through a secure network, post enquiries on customer, account and transaction levels, in addition to receiving updates and alerts in a timely manner.

The global mobile satellite communication services provider – inmarsat – spoke to 60 mins about its latest innovations – BGAN HDR and L-TAC – at GITEX this year.

Drew Brandy, Vice President - Industry Enterprise at inmarsat, said: “GITEX, for us, is about promoting the expansion of our portfolio. One capability that comes to market later this year in November is HDR or High Data Rate streaming which will offer the highest streaming rates in the world of mobile satellite – something we are really looking forward to.”

The BGAN HDR service delivers a significantly enhanced streaming rate, providing a step-change in video quality for journalists reporting from remote regions or areas

where the existing communications infrastructures in unreliable or damaged. BGAN HDR supports a portfolio of four new streaming rates, including asymmetric services to ensure broadcasters only pay for the throughput they need.

Drew added that the service will provide broadcasters with an expected streaming rate of around 650kbps to 700kbps through an easy portable terminal – a significant change from its previous platform. He said: “Building up on the BGAN platform, the BGAN HDR is anticipated to offer streaming rate of 650kbps in comparison to 400kbps available previously. This is a dramatic change in performance.”

Drew also highlighted inmarsat’s L-TAC. L-TAC uses the company’s

L-Band satellites to extend the reach of the UHF radios used by the world’s militaries. By affixing a small antenna and sub-system to either a vehicle or a soldier’s backpack, military and other personnel are able to use their existing UHF radios to get access to L-Band global satellite communications. L-TAC has been tested successfully at speeds of up to 70mph.

Another key offering by inmarsat is its Globe Xpress (GX) service. GX, set for its first launch in December, will be the world’s first globally available high-speed broadband network. It will offer the unique combination of global coverage from a single operator, consistent higher performance of up to 50Mbps, and network reliability.

What are your company’s key products and services?CommVault is a leader in the development of Singular Information Management solutions for high-performance data protection, universal availability, and simplified management of data on complex storage networks. This has been recognised by the research firm Gartner, which placed CommVault as a leader in its 2013 Magic Quadrant for enterprise backup and recovery software.

CommVault’s flagship single-platform architecture solution, Simpana, gives companies unprecedented control over data growth, costs and risk. This software suite of products was designed to work together seamlessly from the ground up, sharing a single code

and common function set, to deliver superlative data protection, archive, replication, search and resource management capabilities. The value proposition of CommVault’s software-based solution is enhanced though its professional services portfolio which includes project management, training, support and on-site installation and implementation services.

Which product lines and services are you focusing on at GITEX Technology Week 2013?CommVault is using GITEX as a platform to highlight Simpana 10, which helps cut storage-related costs by up to 50 percent, reduce administrative overhead by up to 80 percent, and lower aggregate support costs by up to 35 percent. We are also using this opportunity to generate awareness of the enterprise consulting and professional services, educational offerings and new predictive analytics support which were all launched earlier this year.

What benefits do your products and services bring to regional customers? The Simpana 10 platform that was recently launched incorporates a number of features that enable regional IT departments to align technology with current and future business demands. Mobility is gaining momentum in the region and because employees can utilise Simpana’s self-service access from mobile devices, they can increase value from corporate information and

improve productivity. IT organisations continue to

struggle with managing and providing secure access to data employees create on PCs and mobile devices. To address these challenges, new ‘Edge’ software capabilities in Simpana empower users to securely share, search and restore files across their own mobile, desktop and laptop devices, without requiring IT assistance or third-party services.

Simpana enables the accelerated delivery of managed services and cloud computing through new automation of large-scale data centers. It also doubles backup and archive performance and scale to manage data growth, regulatory requirements and business demands. This flexibility and scalability lets IT decisions makers cater to rapidly changing demands from both internal and external users.

CommVault’s technology is bolstered by the expertise of a team of consultants, architects, and engineers who help customers overcome the inherent challenges of independently designing, planning and building-out modern data and information management environments. CommVault Professional Services extend customer capabilities by providing design, deployment, installation, start-up, remote monitoring and management of Simpana software.

Why is your company exhibiting at GITEX Technology Week?Being the largest and by far the

most popular IT event in the region, GITEX presents us with a great opportunity to engage with the entire spectrum of IT professionals ranging from vendors, channel partners and of course existing and potential customers. Our experience of previous editions gives us confidence in the value of our participation. Our presence also assures our partners and customers that we are and will remain highly dedicated to the regional market in future.

What does your company hope to achieve by appearing at GITEX Technology Week?As with any company participating at GITEX, the prime reason would be to ‘be seen’ by members of the regional IT community and turn enquiries into sales leads. Attending GITEX is also an opportunity to keep our ear to the ground and understand the nuances of the regional market.

What are your company’s main recent achievements in the Middle East market?CommVault Systems recently hosted its inaugural Middle East Partner Conference on the 20th and 21st of March, 2013 at the Meydan Hotel, Meydan Racecourse, Dubai. Partner enablement was the theme of the event. The company educated partners about the latest release of its singular data management software platform, Simpana 10 and outlined the role of the channel in the company’s strategy, product sales, business development and marketing initiatives for 2013.
