 1 Fifth by Northwest Area Commission July 6, 2010 Minutes Present: Carrie Patton, Greg R. Lawson, Bruce Mortland, Rebecca Obester, Rick Kuhman, and Bruce Shalter Absent: Bruce McKibben Commissioner Obester called the meeting to order at 7:15 PM at the meeting room at 40 Plus. City of Columbus Isom Nivins, City of Columbus Neighborhood Liaison, stated that the Pride Center and the Columbus Housing Partnership will be holding Home Buyer Education Classes Wednesday evenings f rom 6 to 8:30 pm. Mr. Nivins stated that Andy Baumann from Code Enforcement filed a case on the Chocolate Café with the City Attorney’s Office 3 months ago. No court date has been set. He stated that special drainage considerations will not be made during alley resur facing projects, unless repeated calls to the City regarding this issue occur. Also, notify the City if any medians in the neighborhood need mowed. The 2010 Regional Neighborhood Network Conference will be held October 7-9 at the Dayton Convention Center. The theme of the conference this year is Reinventing Neighborhoods. Registration is $100.00 and commission funds can be used for those w anting to attend. Please contact Jo Anne St. Clair with the City for Registration. Mr. Nivins also stated that the City will be holding training on zoning on July 22 nd . Commissioner Obester introduced Officer Steve Smith, City of Columbus Police Liaison. Officer Smith st ated that there has been car break-ins in the neighborhood. He stated that the National Ni ght Out kickoff event is July 10 th at Westgate Park at 11am. National Night Out is August 3 rd at the Kroger at Chambers and Northwest Boulevard from 6-9pm. He stated that the 7 and 11 precincts will change; we will be in the 4 precinct. Commissioner Obester int roduced Andy Taylor from MORPC: Mid Ohio Regional Planning Commission. Mr. Taylor gave a presentation on Transportation. MORPC covers a 12 county area. The presentation covered about where transportation is going in the future of Central Ohio. Email your ideas to [email protected]. Commissioner Obester introduced Dave Pritchard for an update with the Grandview Area Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Pritchard s tated that July 8 is the awards luncheon. The farmers market on Saturdays has been relocated to the Panzera’s parking lot at the corner of Third and Grandview Avenues. The next coffee and coaching is July 13 th at Marshall’s with a talk on Embezzlement with the Grandview Heights Police Department. He stated that the GAC is seeking input regarding parking issues along Grandview Avenue. Public Comment Commissioner Obester asked for public comment and ca lled the people for the sign-in sheet to speak for an allocated three minutes. Matt McClure, representing National Church Residences (NCR), stated that the proposed Commons at Third project on Norton Avenue h as been awarded the approximately $10 Million in tax credits to move forward with the project. He stated that one of the next steps is to have open communication with the neighbors regarding the project. Commissioner Lawson asks Mr. McClure about crime stati stics is neighborhoods with similar projects. Mr. McClure stated that there has been no increase in crime in the vicinity of the Commons at Grant project. He stated that he may have availability of crime stat numbers at a later meeting.
