The BMW M4 Coupé, BMW M3 Saloon and BMW M4 Convertible deliver maximum driving pleasure coupled with an outstanding performance/fuel consumption ratio thanks to BMW EfficientLightweight construction measures in combination with athletic design.

BMW M engineers are always exploring the development of intelligent vehicle concepts. And the results, from drivetrain innovations through to body components, are integrated specifically into M vehicles – for exceptional driving performance with impressive efficiency.

With Brake Energy Regeneration, the alternator generates electricity primarily when the driver brakes or takes their foot off the accelerator. Previously unused kinetic energy is transformed into electrical energy and fed into the battery.

The Automatic Start/Stop function switches the engine off when the vehicle comes to a temporary standstill (e.g. at traffic lights or in a traffic jam) to reduce overall fuel consumption. When the driver presses on the clutch (six-speed manual) or takes their foot off the brake (optional 7-gear dual-clutch transmission with Drivelogic), the engine automatically starts up again in a fraction of a second.

Carbon roof. As part of the BMW intelligent lightweight construction concept, the roof of the BMW M4 Coupé and BMW M3 Saloon is made of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP). This helps to reduce mass while also lowering the centre of gravity. And this, in turn, increases agility and dynamics when cornering, accelerating and braking. The carbon fibre structure is visible.

M TwinPower Turbo technology featuring a high-rev concept combines performance with efficiency. Innovative turbo technology, High Precision Injection, fully variable Valvetronic valve control, Double-VANOS and the high-rev principle guarantee immediate responsiveness, linear power development over a wide range of engine speeds and a unique sound.

BMW EfficientLightweight construction is a peak priority in M vehicles. This is because low weight is the optimum platform for the best driving dynamics and exemplary efficiency. Ultra-light materials such as aluminium and carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) are used in many components. This all ensures greater agility and dynamism, including improved acceleration and braking.

Comprehensive and coordinated aerodynamics measures optimise driving dynamics, stability, controllability and cooling of M vehicles, particularly at high speeds. Reduced air resistance also improves performance and lowers fuel consumption.

Conventional rules do not apply to the BMW M4 Coupé, BMW M3 Saloon and BMW M4 Convertible. As independent productions of BMW M GmbH, they are faithful to the M philosophy and perfectly combine high performance with optimum, everyday practicality. To fulfi l these high aspirations, the intricately constructed M high-performance chassis has been entirely redeveloped.

The intelligent networking of chassis components and control systems ensures maximum driving dynamics and agility as well as a high degree of precision and control. Experience fascinatingly authentic driving feel.

M Servotronic adjusts the power steering to suit the current speed and, even at high speeds, ensures direct and precise steering responses. It also provides excellent comfort by minimizing the effort required for steering, as well as maximising agility when parking, manoeuvring and navigating narrow or twisting roads.

The optional 7-gear M dual-clutch transmission with Drivelogic is an innovative dual-clutch system specially designed for the high-revving BMW M engine. It enables extremely fast gearchanges without any loss of tractive force. Two sub-transmissions, each with its own clutch, continuously relay engine power to the rear wheels.

With the optional M Carbon Ceramic Brake System, braking power is implemented more directly. It doesn’t corrode, tolerates more heat, is highly resistant to abrasion and contributes to lower vehicle weight, which has a positive impact on agility, dynamics and acceleration. Brake calipers in Gold Metallic with the M logo make this special technical feature visible from the outside of the car.

The Active M Differential optimises traction and driving stability when changing lanes or accelerating out of curves, when cornering at high speed or on roads with uneven surfaces. Traction is improved via an electronically controlled device that reduces the difference in revolution speed between the rear wheels.

M Dynamic mode enables the maximum exploitation of lateral and longitudinal dynamic potential for a particularly authentic driving experience. It works by raising the intervention threshold of the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system, although the driver is still supported in critical situations.

With the optional Adaptive M suspension, electronic control of the shock absorbers ensures optimised road contact and traction in any situation. The suspension settings can be adjusted from comfortable through to sporty-dynamic via the COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT+ modes.

Our world is becoming more closely connected every day. And for BMW drivers it goes without saying that they can request information, communicate via telephone or email and always be up to date – all while they’re on the go. The BMW ConnectedDrive1 concept encompasses all the services and innovative technologies that link BMW vehicles and their passengers to the outside world and surrounding traffic.

The BMW ConnectedDrive Services* option provides the driver with a wide range of information, entertainment and service features on the road.

It also includes BMW Online, which enables you to access current, localised information such as weather, news and an online search powered by Google™, as well as various office functions. You can also combine individual services and features such as webcams, fuel price info, parking information, travel and hotel guides in the “Applications” menu.

The secure and comfortable use of selected smartphone applications is also included for an unlimited period of time. The ConnectedDrive Services option also includes access to the BMW ConnectedDrive Store, in which services and apps can be booked, extended and selected according to individual needs, at any time and from any place. The optional BMW Head-Up Display2 with M-specific display (only in combination with a navigation system) projects driving-related information directly into the driver’s line of sight. Pressing a button activates the M-specific display, which additionally shows the selected gear in the six-speed M manual transmission or the optional 7-gear dual-clutch transmission with Drivelogic, rpm as a dynamic range curve and shift lights to indicate the optimum moment to change gear.

BMW ConnectedDrive, with its intelligent services and assistance systems, is ready with all the right equipment. BMW ConnectedDrive Services & Apps offer more freedom by providing versatile connections between the driver, vehicle and outside world. The Driving Assistant combines the Lane Departure Warning and Approach Warning systems. The Approach and Pedestrian Warning with City Brake Activation issues a warning if there is a risk of collision with vehicles or pedestrians and brakes the vehicle in the event of an emergency. From a speed of approx. 70km/h, the Lane Departure Warning draws the driver’s attention to an unintentional lane change by means of slight vibrations in the steering wheel.

In 2015, the BMW Group was once more listed in the World and European Dow Jones Sustainability Index as one of the most sustainable automotive companies worldwide. The development of efficient vehicle concepts and environmentally friendly production processes, including recycling, is an integral part of our philosophy. BMW EfficientDynamics and electric vehicles have enabled us to cut the CO2 emissions from our European new-vehicle fleet by more than 35% since 1995. We have also reduced the amount of resources used in production, such as water and energy, by 34% between 2006 and 2014, with a reduction to 45% of previous levels aimed at for 2020. In terms of other resources (such as volatile organic compounds, process wastewater and waste) our 45% target was met in 2014, and we will continue to work on further improvement. Production at our engine plant in Steyr has been waste-water free since 2007. And of course, at the end of its service life, every one of our vehicles can be easily and economically recycled.
