some gin ... I've got to have the scaleograph ... Isn't there any place we can get some food? ... How will we ever finish by 11 :00? ... Somebody always seemed to be in the Ripples office slaving away at the tedious job of containing one year of change and new developments into a single book. After working through vacations, Saturday nights, and countless cut classes, the staff. headed by editor Jerry Beatty with the assistance of Joyce Pellam, finally handed in the last deadline with a tired sigh of satisfaction and relief.

CLAWING away at typewriters, frantic last-minute writing, frenzied editing, hair-pu lling, and teeth-gnashing characterized every other Sunday night throughout the year as the Talon staff assembled each issue of the B.C. newspaper. In spite of having all that fun, the Talon staff also managed to enter the Southeastern College Newspaper Competition at Hollins, and was able to send Cameron Craig to New York for the A.C.P. convention and Barb Kolscher to Hampden Sydney for the V .A.S.G. Editor's Committee. Printing for the first full year under the name The Talon, the staff published news, editorialized, and provided a sounding board for students and faculty under the energetic and capable Tina Egge.

HAMS dominated the Pinion Players, with ring leaders, John Pifer, president; Lorna Sattler, vice president; and Marilyn Wampler, secretary. In the spring of 1968, the Pinion Players, under the direction of Professor Fuller, presented Arthur Miller's award winning Death of a Salesman. Later, in May, students· produced and directed "Spoon River Anthology," "Machine," "The Final Dress Rehersal," and "The Bald Soprano". The fall production, The Fantasticks, played to record-breaking audiences. For the Christmas convocation, a metaphysical poem was dramatized. In the spring, an all-girl cast took t.he stage in Lorca's The House of Bernarda Alba. Travelling to Washington and Richmond, the Pinion Players attended professional productions of Man of La Mancha and King Lear. Wayne Miller's "Machine" was presented at the State Drama Festival at the University of Richmond.

CANDLELIGHT, coffee, and folk music, forming the atmosphere of BC's coffee house, were provided by the Student Committee on Religious Activities, better known as SCRA. Under the leadership of Dr. Robert McFadden, SCRA also planned the Sunday morning forum discussions. Mona Powell, with the help of the guest female cooks on campus, held a box·supper auction for the males in the cafeteria to raise funds for the Nigeria-Biafra drive. Last February, SCRA invited Rev. James Jones of Roanoke to highlight Focus Week, with its theme "Focus on Poverty". The Focus Week program, organized by Barbara Turner, chairman, and Hessie Harris, secretary, featured special films on poverty and an all -student convocation with Rev. Jones as its guest lecturer.
