Native American Pit FireStudents learned how Native Americans used clay to make containers that would store food or other important items. We fired our clay pots in a pit fire. A pit fire is an ancient way of firing clay in which you place clay on hot coals and cover with grass, leaves, manure, and other natural items that smother the fires. These natural elements each create smoke and the smoke is what colors the clay.

Native American Dream CatchersNative Americans believe that the night air is filled with dreams both good and bad. The job of a dream catcher

is to catch all the dreams as they flow by. The good dreams know how to pass through the dream catcher

by slipping through the holes and sliding down the soft feathers. The bad dreams, not knowing the way , get tangled in the dream catcher and perish with the first

light of the new day.
