It seems like just yesterday that the “Old Timers” absolutely dominat- ed the sport of stock car racing. The old pros, the experienced, the man with the most laps or the one most familiar with the track was the one who won the most. Niedecken, Davis, Allison, Farmer, Waltrip, the list goes on. These drivers could intimidate a youngster with just a blink of the eye. They were idolized and looked up to by the kids who were just breaking into the hard core sport of auto rac- ing. Now if you’re over forty you are almost considered a has been. The names have changed and oh boy, have the ages changed. Now it’s names like Elliott, Long, Pol- lard. Just check the drivers license on these drivers. Oh wait, some of them don’t even have a drivers license yet! I must also add the intimidation part of racing doesn’t exist anymore with the youngsters of today. They fear “No One” regardless of their age. Tonight see what I’m talking about when Vanderley, Odom, Bryant and a host of others go for a win in the Pro Late Model Division. You can also see the same in the Super Stock, Sportsman and Bomber’s as they are on tonight’s schedule too. Want to get a first hand look at some future drivers? We have them at the track tonight racing in the Kid’s Bicycle Races. Each kid will receive prizes regardless of where they finish. The winners receive a savings bond and “Bragging Rights”. Our next race will be on June 25, and it will consist of the third Blizzard Series race for the Super Late Models. They will be competing in the USA Digital 100. Make sure you attend this one because not only will you see fireworks during the race, you can see a great fireworks show in the sky. Thanks to Pen Air Credit Union. Bring the family and the neighbors for this one. Steve Stokes from the pits Bonus Inside! 28 Mini Hero Cards June 11, 2010 #8

A 6 tire race car? Yes, this

old photo from Tony Martin of

Pensacola taken many years ago in

Ohio. Drivers would balk

today at having to change 6

tires for a race.
