Sportsmen Decided, 3 More Up For Grabs Congratulations go out to Super Late Model driver Johanna Long and Super Stock driver Shannon Jackson for claiming the 2009 championship in their respective divisions. Both drivers did just what they had to do on Sep- tember 25 to win the title. Long made history for the second time at Five Flags. She was the first female to claim a championship in 2008 in the Pro Late Mod- els and came back this year with a repeat, but this time it was in the Super Late Models. Jackson was also a repeat champion after winning the 2006 Super Stock Champion- ship. These two drivers can now breathe a sigh of relief but the other divisions are still up for grabs as they will be decided this tonight. See the story inside on these 2 drivers. The “Night of Champions” will determine the title in the Pro Late Model, Modified, Sportsman and Bomber classes. The tension will fill the air in and around the pits as sev- eral drivers will be on pins and needles until the winners are crowned. Just to give you an idea of how close it is in three of the four classes and how quick it can change, let’s break it down. We will start with the Pro Late Models. Keith Thorpe is holding a slim 8 point lead over Ronnie Smith. These two drivers have been back and fourth over the last few races. Only one will go home a champion tonight. That is in my eyes, they are both champions regardless of the outcome. So, you’re saying “wow that’s close“. Sportsman - Randy Thompson has been strong all season, and has clocked enough points to win the championship going into this race. That’s 3 in a row. A few weeks ago everyone pretty much was ready to hand the Bomber trophy to Michael Kitchen. Wait, not so fast. Where did William Goulet come from? He has closed with in 13 points of Kitchen and could easily claim the crown as good as he has been running. We want to wish all these drivers the best of luck and may the best man win. We also want to thank each and every driver in all the classes for supporting Five Flags Speedway in 2009. Most of all, we thank the “Faithful Fans of Five Flags” for their support throughout the years Steve Stokes is host of the BLAB-TV show “In The Groove”, is a veteran track official, and former driver.

Congratulations go out to Super Late Model driver Johanna Long and Super Stock driver Shannon Jackson for claiming the 2009 championship in their respective divisions. Champion Jackets

An important part of the Snowball Derby drivers introductions on Sunday Dec. 6th will be the awarding of the Hoosier Champion-ship Jackets to our 6 local division winners. Two weeks ago 3 divisions were deter-mined, and tonite, the other three season championships for 2009 will be decided.

Johanna Long won the Pro Late Model championship last year, and moved into the fast-er Super Late Models to compete in the Bliz-zard Series. She won 2 events, and at the final

Blizzard race 2 weeks ago clinched the 2009 title. Jo is in Rockingham this weekend to compete in the ARCA race in a D’Hondt Team car. This fall she is scheduled to race at Winchester Indiana, and Nashville TN.

The Superstock champ again is Shan-non Jackson of Pas-cagoula. He was cham-pion in 2006, and leads the points this year at Mobile Int. Speedway. This year he had strong challenges from

Chris Cotto and Randy Thompson, 2 drivers who were also running in other divisions. Randy Thompson has such a com-manding lead in the Sportsmen division that those points will earn him another jack-et, even before tonight’s final race. It is his 3rd,and that’s why we put Randy’s photo on the front of this newsletter. The Bombers, Modifieds and Pro Late Models will produce the winner in each of those three divisions tonite. You could be in a championship jacket next year. Chris Cotto and Tommy Rollins in the Superstock division have announced their cars are for sale. Check our web site for more deals on other used race cars.

Georgia’s Bubba Pollard had it all heading in the right direction 2 weeks ago. He was leading in the Blizzard Series Points going into the championship race. He brought 2 back up cars, but had to start 12th in the 29 car field based on his qualifying time. Then it happened. He got caught up in a crash on the start/finish line of the first lap. His car slid down to turn one and stopped. Bubba’s crew went to work in the pits, pieced parts together to get him back out 30 laps down. He finished 20th, af-ter a herculean effort to get the car back in competition. Then on to Mobile Saturday nite for a run at the Gulf Coast Champi-onship. It rained, and the event was delayed until October 24th.
