Like many of you, I was shocked and saddened by the too-early death of Prince.

I’veseensomememes travelingthe internetwhichsuggest thatwemissartistsnotjustbecause oftheirmusic,but,inasense, becausetheirmusicplaysthesoundtrackorbackgroundtoourownlives.While, forme,thisisnottrueforallwellknownartists, itwasdefinitely trueforPrince.

SomanypeopleareofferingtributestoPrince,andIdebatedwhetherornottoaddmyvoicetothemix- butIrealizedthattherearesome reallyimportant lessons thatPrince’slife- anddeath-havetaughtme.

Iadmirethosewithmusical talent,anyway,andPrincehadthis inexcess. (Agoodexcess.)

Hewrotesongs,playedmultiple instruments, andwasprolificthroughouthiswholecareer.Ihope,attheendofmylife,Ihavedemonstratedmasteryofmycraftinthisway.

Oneaccountsharedthathe’dgosofarastostopplayinginthemiddleofashowifsomeonewasrecordinghisperformanceandhedidn’twantrecordingsmade.

Ittakesalotofcouragetoupholdwhatyouwant,andtolookoutforyourownbest interests,evenwhenotherpeoplemaydisagree.

Freedfromtheconstraintsoftimeandregularschedules, theyhadnothingbutfun.Sheremembersfondlyalltheexperiences theysharedtogether,andhowgoodhewastobearound.Hemaderelationships apriority.
