QUESTIONS"Maybe you have some questions at this point.

First question; do I need to be able to bend notes to use this CD/Book?No. But if you can, this book will still challenge you. First play the pieces as written. Secondly try the same tunes and impro one octave lower and one octave higher. Thirdly could try it all on different key harps if you want to really fry your brain!

Second question; what sort of harmonica(s) do I need for this CD?A ten hole diatonic in 'C'

Third question; is this CD interactive like the others in the series?Yes, the idea works so well that we always use it now. If you pan right with your balance control you lose the band and can focus on the sound of theharmonica. Pan left and it's just you and the band without me. In the centreyou have it all. Simple and very effective.

USE THE CD FIRST AND TRY TO LISTEN AND COPY

IN OTHER WORDS, TRY TO NOT USE THE BOOK - TRAIN YOUR EARS RATHER THAN YOUR EYES, MUSIC BELONGS TO THE EARS.

YOU WILL PROBABLY NEED TO PAUSE THE CD FREQUENTLY MAYBE AFTER EACH PHRASE - TO ALLOW TIME FOR IT ALL TO SINK IN. LATER YOU CAN USE THE BOOK TO ADD A VISUAL DIMENSION.

USE THE BALANCE CONTROL TO DEFINE WHAT YOU HEAR - SO...

PAN RIGHT = NO BAND, PAN LEFT = NO HARMONICA, PAN CENTRE = YOU GOT IT ALL

This is designed for harmonica players who can play single notes but can't yet bend them. All the tunes and improvising can be done an octave lower if you like and then you will be bending a few notes - it's all good practice either way.

Either way, enjoy it.

Ben Hewlett became a musician at the age of ten in 1969 learning thetrumpet. He went through the school system of exams and performances,finally escaping the mandatory classical repertoire with the discovery ofLouis Armstrong and Dizzy Gillespie. He was a minor third addict at fourteen and still has a passion for jazz and blues. Godfather DennisCorble gave Ben a harmonica at the age of 7 thus unknowingly sowing the seeds of a lifelong love of this instrument!

Paul is a composer/arranger, multi-instrumentalist and teacher. He is aformer pupil of Bishop Wordsworth School, Salisbury and former memberand leader of the Wiltshire Youth and Salisbury Junior Orchestras on violin.He also played in rock and folk bands in the Salisbury areas from the ageof 15 onwards and later graduated from Trinity College of Music, London inviolin, piano and composition (1976-80).
