ABOUT LAST NIGHT...: Altoona was able to secure a win in the nal game o their six-game homestand with a, 6-4,victory over the Harrisburg Senators on Thursday night. The Curve jumped out in ront in the game, which was onlythe th time this season that they scored the games rst run. It was Curve starter Brandon Cumpton who actuallystarted the rally, doubling or his rst career hit to start o the third. Cumpton came around a ew batters later whenBrock Holt doubled and the Curve grabbed the lead at 1-0. Altoona wasnt nished in the third as Matt Curry wasintentionally walked two batters later to load the bases or Tony Sanchez. Sanchez popped out but Anthony Nor-man came through with the big hit, a two-run single to right, that broke the game open at, 3-0. Cumpton (2-2) was

sharp on the mound, tossing 7.2 innings o two-run ball while striking out three. The Georgia Tech product induced14 groundball outs across his 7.2 innings pitched, which was a new season-high or a Curve pitcher in 2012. The Curvetacked on a run in the ourth thanks to a Robbie Grossman ground-rule double and then two more in the seventh.Altoonas nal two runs proved to be vital as Harrisburg mounted a late rally, scoring three runs across the eighth andninth innings. Duke Welker exed but did not break as he was able to wrap up the victory in the ninth. Grossmanreached base our times in the win while Curry extended his hitting streak to eight games and his on-base streak to 13.

CURVE/AEROS SERIES:The Curve make their rst visit to Canal Park in 2012 this weekend, playing a three-game seriesFriday through Sunday. The home o the Aeros has traditionally been a tough place or the Curve to play as they own acareer record o 53-76 in the downtown ballpark. This is the rst o three trips that the Curve will make to The RubberCapital o the World. The two clubs split the rst series o the year in Altoona with the Curve winning the last game othe shortened two-game set.

FOR ALTOONA: RHP Matt McSwain will make the spot start or the Curve today in the spot oAaron Pribanic, whowas placed on the disabled list on Monday (right shoulder). The spot-starting role is a amiliar one or McSwain, who

made a pair o spot starts down the stretch in 11. A ormer starter, McSwain has been used primarily as a reliever overthe last ew years ater starting 25 o 28 games that he appeared in or Lynchburg in 2009. The Elon University productwent 11-8 in 09 or the Carolina League champion Hillcats, who captured the Mills Cup. In his two starts last season orAltoona, McSwain went ve innings apiece and allowed two runs in each. For more on McSwain, see page two.

FOR AKRON:The last time the Aeros came to Curve, Pa. they brought with them a trio o let handers and this serieswill be no dierent as tonights stater Giovanni Soto is a southpaw and will ace the Curve or the second time thisseason. In his rst outing o the season against Altoona (which was also his Double-A debut), Soto gave up one runon a pair o hits across ve innings while striking out six to earn himsel a victory. Since then, Soto has surrendereda combined eight runs (seven earned) in 9.1 innings on a total o 13 hits. Eastern League opponents are hitting .273o the Puerto Rico native entering play tonight and hes been a tad more successul away rom Canal Park. In his onestart against the Curve he allowed just two hits and both were to players currently on Altoonas disabled list ( AndrewLambo andJarek Cunningham).

KING FOR A DAYOR TWO OR THREE: Altoona Curve manager P.J. Forbes will not be travelling with the team or thethree-game road trip in Akron due to some back issues. In the interim, hitting coach Ryan Long will manage the clubwith some assistance rom GCL Pirates skipper Tom Prince, who is in town this week as well. Forbes hopes to rejointhe team in Erie on Monday.

POWER OUTAGE: Altoona enters Friday night with our team home runs, which is tied or the third ewest amongull-season MiLB teams that are currently playing. Only the Mississippi Braves o the Southern League (2) and Char-lotte Stone Crabs o the Florida State League (3) have ewer team home runs than the Curve. Birmingham (SouthernLeague), which is where 2011 Curve hitting coach Brandon Moore currently holds the same post, along with the Kan-napolis Intimidators o the South Atlantic League each have our team home runs as well.

CURRY ON MY WAYWARD SON: Curve rst baseman Matt Curry has ound a good groove at the plate over his lastcouple o weeks. Dating back 11 games, the TCU product is batting .317 (13-or-41), including a .400 (8-or-20) mark inhis last ve. Now riding an eight-game hitting streak, over the course o which hes batted .355 (11-or-31), Curry hasboosted his batting average since April 15 rom .281 to .317. He was 1-or-3 in the win on Thursday but did not double, breaking his streak o six straight games with a two-bagger. The lety also carries a 13-game on-base streak (longest othe season or a Curve player) into tonights opener with Akron dating back to April 10th.

SIZZLING SANTOS: Despite being held hitless on Thursday, AdalbertoSantos is still cooking at the plate or Altoona with his .405 average enter-ing tonights game with Akron. The Bronx, N.Y. native had hit in ve straightgames to the tune o a .579 average (11-or-19) with our doubles, seven RBI,3 walks and six runs scored beore being blanked on Thursday. In his veaway games this season, the Oregon State product has batted .385 (5-or-13).

THE SPACE BETWEEN:The Curve havent played many close games this sea-son. In act, only ve o Altoonas 18 contests to this point have been decidedby one or two runs. Altoona won Thursday nights game, 6-4, to improve to3-2 in one or two-run games. Theyre 5-8 in games decided by three runs ormore.

DR. STRANGEGLOVE: Altoona played an errorless game or the th time

this season in Wednesday nights loss to Harrisburg but couldnt make it twoin a row as they committed a pair o errors Thursday. The club has only puttogether back-to-back errorless games one time this season and that wasApril 13th-14th in Richmond. The Curve are tied or the most errors in theleague at 28 with New Hampshire but own the worst elding percentage inthe league at .960.
