ABOUT SUNDAY...:The Curve spotted Richmond a threerun advantage ater the rst three innings but then scored

the last eight runs in the game to go on to an, 83, seriesclinching victor over Richmond on Sunda aternoon at Peo

ples Natural Gas Field. Curve starter Aaron Poreda worked around ve walks to give up just three runs (two earned) in

his ve innings beore turning it over the bullpen. Altoonas oense broke out late in the game with three runs in the

sixth to tie and ve more in the eighth to eventuall win it. Leading the oensive charge once again was right elder

Adalberto Santos, who was 2or4 with 3 RBI in the win. It was Santos double in the eighth that cleared the bases o

Richmond closer Darl Mada (01) to bring in the goahead runs. Santos and cleanup hitter Matt Curry both enjoed

multihit games and Curr also drove in a pair o runs. The bullpen duo oKyle Coeld and Vic Blackbridged the gaprom Poreda to Duke Welker (10), who worked the nal 1.1 innings or his rst win o the oung campaign. The club

did much better on Sunda with runners in scoring position as well, going 6or15 .

CURVE/HARRISBURG SERIES: In a virtual repeat o the teams last road trip, Altoona now welcomes the Harrisburg

Senators (AA Nationals) to town or a threegame set Tuesda through Thursda. Well see a pair o rematches in the

series as Mike Colla and Je Mandel will square o on Tuesda (Mandel earned win last week) and Nathan Baker and

Dann Rosenbaum meet up on Wednesda (Rosenbaum got the win). Harrisburg took the series last week at Metro

Bank Park, 21, but still trails in the alltime series at 136110.

FOR ALTOONA: Caliornia native Mike Colla toes the slab or the Curve in the series opener with the Senators on Tues

da night, a week ater starting against them at Metro Bank Park on April 17th. In that start, Colla tied a careerhigh

with seven strikeouts but surrendered an RBI single to his counterpart, Je Mandel, in the th inning that gave Har

risburg a 10 lead. Altoonas oense was silent in support o Colla as the Curve went on to be shut out, 40 and Colla

was saddled with the tough decision. The right has gone ve innings in each o his last two starts ater taking the ball

here at Peoples Natural Gas Field on Opening Night and lasting our innings. For more on Colla, see page two.

FOR HARRISBURG:The Senators will once again send RHP Jef Mandel to the bump to oppose Colla and the Curve

on Tuesda night in Curve, Pa. In his win last week, Mandel blanked the Curve over seven innings and gave up just

our hits in the process while striking out our. He also was hand with the bat in the Senators win as he drove in the

clubs rst three runs and went 2or3 at the plate. The Balor product enters Tuesdas game with the best ERA in the

Eastern League at 0.96 and has also allowed the thirdewest baserunners per 9IP or an starter in the league (8.20). In

his three starts thus ar, opponents have hit .188 o the Houston, Texas native.

CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR: Outelder Adalberto Santos made a run at the Eastern League Oensive Plaer o the Week

award last week, batting 12or22 (.545) with six runs scored, our doubles, seven RBI, three walks and one stolen base.

All seven o the RBI have come in his past two games and over his last three games total Santos is 9or13 with our

doubles and ve runs scored. He lost out to Binghamtons Josh Rodriguez, who hit .500 or the week with two homers,

two doubles, seven RBI and seven runs scored. Entering pla on Tuesda, Santos is hitting . 469.

HES HEATING UP...: CatcherTony Sanchez has been making loud contact at the plate as o late and its starting toshow in the stat sheet, with his average rising to its current spot at .282. Sanchez has successull hit in our o his last

ve games and three o those have been multihit games. Frida night, the Miami, Fla. native went 2or5 and drove

    in a pair o runs.

DISSECTING THE NUMBERS: Altoona enters Tuesda hitting .252 as a team, which is 9thbest in the league. Whats

odd about the ranking is that the team has the ewest strikeouts among an team in the league (105) and has an on

base percentage o .332, which is tied or thbest in the circuit. Theve been quite good at plaing small ball as well,

pacing the circuit with 15 sacrice bunts (next closest team has 10, Richmond).

TOUGH GLOVE:The Curve made two more deensive miscues on Sunda in the win over Richmond and now have 24

on the season, which is secondmost in the 12team Eastern League. Onl Portland and New Hampshire have more

errors with both clubs making 25 entering pla on Tuesda. Statisticall speaking, however, Altoona has the worst

elding percentage in the league at .958.

HOME IMPROVEMENT: Ater struggling on the most recent road trip with bringing runners in, the Curve have reallimproved over their past three games to start this homestand. As a team

the are batting .325 (13or40) with RISP, including a solid 6or15 eort

in the win on Sunda over Richmond. The club has scored 38 runs in eight

home contests or an average o 4.75 runs per game, which is more than two

ull runs higher than their run average on the road o (2.3, 16 runs in seven

    games).

HITTING HOME: With 10 more hits on Sunda night, the Curve are now bat

ting .275 in the connes o Peoples Natural Gas Field through eight games. In

their seven games on the most recent road trip, the Curve batted .224.

ROSTER MOVES: A air amount happened while the Curve had the o da on

Monda as both RHP Aaron Pribanic (right shoulder) and 2BJarek Cunning-

ham (let wrist) landed on the Altoona disabled list. RHP Zach Foster was

also transerred to the Bradenton roster and the Curve have added IF GregPicart rom TripleA. The team roster stands at 23 + 4 DL.
