Remember the ending mark depends on the type of sentence.
There are several correct terms used when telling what type of sentence you are using.
• Statement/Telling/Declarative
• Command/Imperative
• Question/Asking/Interrogative
• Exclamation/Exclamatory

Statement/Telling/DeclarativeWhether you call it a statement, telling, or what I call the 4th grade word, declarative, you are talking about a sentence that tells you something.
These sentences will always end with a period.
I like to eat ice-cream covered in sprinkles.

The balloons floated high into the sky until they looked like tiny dots and disappeared.

Command/ImperativeIf a sentence is giving you a command or telling you to do something, it is called a command or the 4th grade word…imperative.
They can be easily confused with statements because they also end with a period.
Command
Go get the dog.
Hold your sister’s hand near the water.

Question/Asking/InterrogativeWhen a sentence is asking something it is called a question. As you get older they will call this type of sentence an interrogative.
An asking sentence ends with a question mark.

Exclamation/ExclamatoryWhen a sentence shows STRONG emotion, then it is called an exclamatory sentence.
These type of sentences end with an exclamation point.
